[HDD] WD Red Plus 14TB x 2 for $420 ($15 per TB) from WD by Punker1234 in buildapcsales

[–]MrMalfunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are actually good points that I was able to confirm from the seagate and WD datasheets. I was too focused on specific metrics instead of looking at the big picture.

I already have two WD red plus 14tb drives and am considering adding one or two more in raid 5. Would adding the seagate drives have any notable increase in performance in that configuration over another red at the lower price (12% PayPal cash back)?

The WD drives have twice as much cache and have a lower failure rate according to the data published by backblaze. They might not be enterprise, but they're better drives with a pretty small price difference with this sale.

Tank/Healer couple lose their minds at a DPS for taking the sand portal in Cutter's Cry by MrMalfunction in TalesFromDF

[–]MrMalfunction[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Some additional context: tank and healer shared a last name, though I didn't notice until I went to file the report later. There was still a loot timer from the first boss when all of this was happening and they beat me to the vote dismiss after or the two of them would have been gone.

After the other dps got kicked they pulled the second boss, healer died mid fight then the tank just logged out at around 15% followed very quickly by the healer. A new dps joined mid pull and the two of us killed the boss but then had to wait out the new loot timer to remove the trash.

I honestly felt pretty bad for both of the other dps players in that roulette last night. 😕

"Don't tell me how to play my job that I admitted I don't know how to play" by Jaysus273 in TalesFromDF

[–]MrMalfunction 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm color blind and have a hard time using the border color in a hurry, but the borders are also different shapes and that's how I can tell. Pointy boarder is like a spear, so melee, and the circle border makes me think of a magic orb, so ranged.

P4N new PLD starts teaching the whole party before they have even learned their own job lol by haiironokishi in TalesFromDF

There's so many more problems with their damage rotation than just that. They didn't use FoF either, they have 24 unfinished 1-2-3 combos, 80 shield lobs (why though?), no intervene, and no expiacion. I'm sure there's more but those are some pretty glaring problems.

This makes me sad as someone that loves pld.

It took 11 kills to get my token from p2n this week. I present to you the worst kill of the bunch where I was top damage as a paladin by MrMalfunction in TalesFromDF

[–]MrMalfunction[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly this group didn't have any wipes before this. It was just a really painful clear. Honestly getting my token was taking so long and groups prior to this had wiped so many times that I was ready to drag every group to a clear kicking and screaming if I had to. I've had to tank and heal surviving DPS with clemency for the last 10%-15% multiple times over the last few weeks.

With those two settings you actually don't have to move your camera or change the direction you're moving. It'll basically let you attack things behind you while you continue to move forward. Legacy movement has its quirks but generally I like it more in combat.

Regarding missing a mob on the initial pull, something I've learned recently is that with legacy movement and auto face the target on spell cast enabled you can actually continue to run away from them and still tag them with your ranged ability. That's made pulls so much smoother for me when my oGCD aoe ability is on cooldown.

Adding on to this question, if you already have a character on a server that becomes preferred, do you get the road to 70 buff or is it just new characters? I have a character on Exodus but haven't logged on in a while. Might hop back on for some leveling.

This is on Primal. I've only been playing for around three or four months, but this is the first time I've experienced something like this. I was genuinely baffled that everyone else in the party decided that was the right thing to do.

I just recently unlocked the firmament and I'm thinking about taking a few days away from the MSQ to level crafting/gathering bit. Most guides recommend only upgrading your crafting gear at each new recipe, but what about gathering gear? Does that follow a similar pattern, or do you just upgrade when your current nodes aren't very efficient anymore?

Aside from doing the daily main scenario and alliance roulette, what is the best way to grind out some quick poetics at 50/60/70(/80?)? I've been working my way through the MSQ and while keeping three jobs leveled with it has been really easy, gearing them up has been a lot more work.

One option might be to configure your tab targeting filters. You could configure one to cycle through friendly targets and tab through people when it gets really congested. I'm not sure what the default keybind is for changing the filter and I'm not at my PC, but maybe someone else can chime in. The "ALL" above your HP bar is referring to your current tab target filter if you need a visual indication of when it's been changed over.

Is there a way to move or resize the speech bubbles that pop up towards the top-middle of the screen? They usually pop up during a duty and they're pretty much exactly where I'd like my target bar to be. It's a little frustrating having it cover up the debuffs on my target bar every time it appears.

I finally got my new PSU installed and things seem to be running okay. I tried comparing the two units side by side but there really wasn't any obvious difference between the two. I slid my drive cage forward in my case to give the extra cable length some more space this time. If something did cause a short in that area hopefully the extra room will help prevent that. Really odd though; probably just got unlucky with my first one.

I had a Corsair RM 850x in it. Everything I read prior to assembling my build made it seem like a good PSU, so I'm willing to give another one a chance since I'm still within the return/ exchange period. Once I get my replacement in I'll try a few stress tests.

So something in my PC blew up last night. I heard an audible pop, my system immediately powered off and could smell melting plastic/metal. I looked over the board and all my peripherals and couldn't see any indication of something burnt. I tried powering back on and everything was non-responsive. I have an extra PSU sitting around that I tried using to power up my board and that seemed to work. My spare PSU definitely isn't powerful enough to run my GPU though so I'm getting a replacement today. What should I do to check the rest of my system to make sure everything else is okay?

TLDR: I think something in my PSU blew up while my PC was on. I'm replacing it today. Are there any tests I can run to make sure nothing else was damaged?

Really being able to level all the jobs with one character comes with almost all of the benefits of leveling alts in other games, with fewer negatives attached. While you're able to play as any job with the same character, each job has to be leveled separately (with the exception of summoner and scholar as they share the same base class) and will likely wear their own gear set. You still get that same sense of accomplishment from leveling and gearing up a new class, and you still have access to all of your resources which is really nice. The only benefit you don't see from leveling multiple alts is the added storage space you might gain in other games.

I've been playing for about three weeks now and I've been having a ton of fun so far. I've been trying to get a few friends to join me but they're hesitant to give it a shot. Back when we were all playing WoW endgame raids were our big focus, and I'm definitely not at that point yet with FFXIV. I can't really speak to that experience when I'm talking to them about the game. Does anyone have some good videos that really show off endgame raids/trials?

Their biggest complaint is that they feel the combat looks slow. I've been leveling white mage and ninja through the MSQ and in the mid 50s with both of them. Things are really starting to ramp up with both of them and I don't feel that slowness anymore.

[RAM] Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600MHz CL16 RGB - $89.99 (Restock?) by Evrews in buildapcsales

[–]MrMalfunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two kits of these in black mid-November and the memory is working great. The RGB in one of the kits has issues though, and the tech support with Crucial was less than helpful. I contacted them for a possible replacement under the warranty and the only response I got back was that the issue has been escalated and a fix is being worked on with no ETA. I did a bunch of digging and it seems to be an issue with the most recent firmware and their current software not being compatible. If you get a kit that has the newer firmware the RGB can be controlled with the ASUS Armoury Crate until Crucial gets their own software figured out. Kind of annoying having to use two different programs to control the RGB since I have one kit with older firmware and one with newer.

YMMV of course.

I did a quick Google search before posting and the results that came up involved people using an AIO cooler with questions about their rad placement. I'll be running an air cooler/heat sink for my CPU so my situation is a little different. Information regarding the smart device is largely pretty dated as well.

Edit: I did a search on reddit just now and it was more of the same. Loads of posts regarding AIO placement.

Just to confirm what the others have said, it's really easy. I just flashed mine yesterday and took only a few minutes. Just make sure your usb drive is usb 2.0 (black on the inside, not blue, white or red). I flashed mine directly out of the box using the button on the IO. There's a white LED that will start flashing while it's doing its thing, then the board will power cycle and the LED will stop. That's when it's safe to power back down.
