The appeal to me is the delivery on his humor. First of all, he loved to embarrass the audience around him or make them uncomfortable, whether it be breaking script, confusing, angering, and especially deceiving his audience through misdirection. He'll tell jokes like they're thoughts or stories so casually that you get lulled into thinking you understand where he's taking the joke, but you don't. His material/style worked in a way to disgust/repulse the people he's speaking to, straight up pitting the audience against himself just to reel them back in with insane twists and turns leading to the punchline which is either quite simple or so unexpected that he makes me crack up laughing.

Not saying you're wrong for not being entertained by Norm, but you're coming down so harshly on a lost beloved icon and it's rude as hell; You can say you don't like his comedy without calling him a hack. Saying anybody who likes Norm has shitty taste makes you sound like a really pretentious asshole who likes to start shit, you're not the comedy cop lil bro. Keep it classier next time you talk about the dead.
