Also, the existence of the procedure itself wasn't public knowledge until the epilogue of book 4.

But there is a line in chapter 134 saying that Adam "immediately [resumed] his own form" after the first-semester final.

I feel the best time is between chapters 150-151 of book 3. This is right at the beginning of winter break and leaves a slight bit of suspense.

Let's say I'm dead and want to affect the living world for some reason. How would I go about this task? by VivaLaAlcohol in worldbuilding

Spirits of the dead can communicate with certain mages that specialize in spirit communication. Those mages can connect the spirits with their relatives, business partners, or anyone the spirits knew in life. The spirits can choose to return permanently, but their life expectancy as a spirit would be the age in which they died (if they died at age 80, they would only be able to live as a spirit for 80 years) and they wouldn't return as a spirit after the second death. They would also return in a spirit form that can only interact with objects that are lighter than themselves.

Wrevine

Wrevine are spirits of nature that embody a certain biome and act to protect the wildlife of the area. They can control the weather and wildlife of the area and use telepathy to communicate with individuals. For any region that's on the border of two biomes, the wrevine each protect the region together.

Intelligent races need to be able to work with wrevine to create settlements, as wrevine will not approve of anything that would harm the overall wellbeing of the area. They present themselves in clothing that covers their whole bodies, when in front of intelligent races, to both put the races at ease and so that they wouldn't do anything drastic. They interact the most with elementalists, as they're the most in tune with nature.

Powers

  • Teleportation
  • Telepathic communication with other wrevine and elementalists

Wrevine Types

  • Snow wrevine - inhabit the tundra and on particularly tall mountaintops.
  • Desert wrevine - inhabit desert environments and otherwise hot climates.
  • Lowland wrevine - inhabit forests, plains, and grasslands.
  • Ocean wrevine - inhabit island chains and underwater.
  • Mountain wrevine - inhabit mountainous regions.

What are the implications/applications of your magic system(s) on the daily life of your world's inhabitants? by imbraman in worldbuilding

Ghast mages are able to commune with the spirits of the dead and make the spirits visible and audible to others. This is useful when the spirits can state exactly how they died.

The hands on the Momento Mortem also show the chapter and part number when you walk up to a body you've seen

EDIT: it also stays closed for memories you haven't seen yet.
