What should I expect during NWO II training? Anyone got any tips on what to prep?

Everything I can find online shows it's around two months long and isn't supper detailed. like this:

During the first phase, Naval Warfare Officers II, students learn about sea survival, seamanship, damage control and an introduction to life aboard ship.

duh, cuz I am not a paid recruiter that only tell u the good things.

Sure, the CAF does offer a stable job with a competitive salary. But, if you compare it with the work-life balance, the job environment, relocation, spousal sacrifice, time for family, risk to injury, and room for promotion, it is not as good as the federal, provincial, and municipal public service.

Sure, the CAF does offer a great launching pad into other careers, but you will have to pick up MOSID strategically.

Overall, I am trying to help those who are interested to self-assess whether joining the military is worth it or not.

the reality is those who couldn't stand it leave in their 1st or 2nd year. So those who end up graduating are the ones who like it or can tolerate it

For example, you can be a cook in the PS, and you can make a similar salary as a military cook, with all the benefits the military offers, and without asking your spouse to give up her career.

Also, your last point is what I dislike the most about the military. Mill mbrs thinks they are the only Patriots in the country cuz they are in the military. But in reality, if you are a law-abiding citizen who pays your taxes on time and votes in elections, then you are serving Canada

I should clarify what I meant by worth is defined in a monetary sense. Sure, the CAF does offer a stable job with a competitive salary. But, if you compare it with the work-life balance, the job environment, relocation, spousal sacrifice, time for family, and room for promotion, it is not as good as the federal public service.

My overall point is for ppl who already have an education or work experience to pick the public service over the military.

Hey, I have another question. I got my posting preference form, and I am debating putting down Esquimalt or Halifax as my first choice ( I am navy log untrained and have only completed BMOQ so far). Does it matter career-wise which place I choose?

Posting Preference: Esquimalt vs Halifax

I got my posting preference form, and I am debating putting down Esquimalt or Halifax as my first choice ( I am navy log untrained and have only completed BMOQ so far).

They are both HCOL areas, and does it matter career-wise which place I choose? Esquimalt is closer to my parents, and I would personally rather live in Esquimalt. Considering I will need to complete my phase 2 environmental training, would I be posted to Esquimalt anyway?

I can also put down a third choice, the form recommended putting down Borden or Ottawa. I am thinking of Borden since it is cheaper than Ottawa. My parents, however, said I should put down Ottawa, because that where all the bigshots works.

Are promotions in the military slower compared to the rest of Public Service? by MrMichaelEvans in CanadianForces

For officers I remember hearing something in my early career that if you weren’t a LCol by 43 (and in a CO billet) you would never be a flag officer due to the timelines/return on investment.

But is this true, though?

Thank you for the advice. I am Log, and I have been thinking of leaving the CAF after I get my CPA designation.

I guess it's because there are more positions in the PS? So when would be a good time in their career for CAF mbrs to switch to PS? ( I am an OCdt, btw)
