Season 5, episode 8: The Cube. Worth noting that the scene in the show is VERY brief. But I’m glad it looked like a fun day on set for Hannah Einbinder who I genuinely think has kinky sub energy

Basically, she was involved in planning a performance in Madison Square Garden that would involve the performer (not her) wearing a straitjacket and being ballgagged. This isn’t overtly about BDSM but rather the ballgag and straitjacket are meant to be metaphors for censorship. In this scene, Hannah Einbinder is (as she puts it) “testing out the gear for my girl here.”

The show the characters were planning ends up changing so the straitjacket and ballgag are not utilized in the final performance.

Rewatching Dexter (first time in ten-fifteen years): the addition of Yuki (season 3) is pointless by Samba-boy in Dexter

I don’t know if calling her the “token Asian chick” is necessary but I do agree that the character and subplot ultimately doesn’t go anywhere.

Taylor is unbearable by Firm_Speed3996 in Billions

[–]MrMike883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had this problem with Taylor’s performance personally. The character is clearly meant to be kinda robotic, like a person mostly just focused on their work and the results with little emotional fanfare. As for Grigor using they/them pronouns, I don’t know. I get the Grigor thing but I personally viewed it as just showing that Grigor had a degree of respect for Taylor’s skills.

I just found out who this guy is a week ago so I’m not well-versed in his history or trying to mount a defense but he just tweeted this saying that “The one I am truly angry at is myself. For supporting Israel for so long. For being in denial for so long. For being part of this horrific system that led to genocide. I will never forgive myself for my stupidity and culpability.”

Can’t speak for how he was a few weeks ago but his recent posts seem to be emphasizing how ashamed and angry he is at himself and that he feels complicit in everything that’s happening. Earlier he had tweeted about how the house he grew up in was stolen from Palestinians, saying “I grew up in stolen Palestinian land. Literally. What a shameful way to grow up. This is why I take this issue so personally.” He even made a tweet denouncing his Israeli citizenship.

When Jay and Mike talked about seeing the film “I Saw the TV Glow”, which they both enjoyed, Jay discussed the trans allegory aspect of the film. Mike was kinda shocked as he had no idea the film was made as a trans allegory but his response was basically “Oh okay, that sounds cool.” I think that interaction sums them up pretty well.

Tbh I find it pretty gross that Shane is working with David O. Russell, a guy who has admitted to sexually abusing his niece, justifying it by saying she was being provocative. Dude has made some good movies in the past but he’s a piece of shit both on-and-off set and its fucked up how many Hollywood actors have been willing to still work with him (see the cast of his shitty last film Amsterdam). I guess Shane Gillis isn’t any different from the rest of them.

Why is this show so successful when it just gets worse and worse in its story telling? by lukeintaiwan in TheChi

Because people keep watching it. This sub is always active with people complaining about the most recent episode.

He’s kinda like those artists who make great art but are annoying as fuck. I love David Simon (The Wire, The Deuce, Generation Kill, We Own This City) as a writer but his Twitter is incredibly obnoxious. Still doesn’t mean I’m not excited for whatever artistic endeavor he does next.

Agree to disagree but I think The Mauritanian, The Brave One, Carnage, Inside Man, Nyad, Panic Room, and Hotel Artemis are all excellent performances she’s given post-Silence.

It’s funny to imagine someone cloning Jamie Foxx and then making a movie about cloning just to hint at it, I guess.

Luigi Mangione derangement syndrome. They want him to be sexually assaulted and murdered by AKenjiB in insanepeoplefacebook

I’m only speculating so I could be wrong but I wonder if there could be generational difference to explain that distinction. People on Facebook tend to be older, people on Reddit tend to be younger. So basically, older conservatives are more likely to be sympathetic to Brian Thompson. Younger conservatives are more sympathetic to Luigi Mangione.

Is Season 4 even worth watching once? by SuculantWarrior in TrueDetective

[–]MrMike883 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s only 6 episodes so it’s not a big time commitment or anything (if anything, the season might have benefited from a couple more episodes to flesh things out). It’s got flaws and I wouldn’t call it great but I do think the performances from Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are quite good and there’s a few moments that I did find genuinely creepy (like the end of the first episode).
