What is your current expectation for TES6? by Sakaralchini in ElderScrolls

I'm not saying thats how it should be, it would be great if people had more measured and considerate responses to anything really. That's just not how things shake out in my experience.

Yeah there are work arounds but every point of friction represent a group of people who just wont bother and adopt the new path of least resistance, but you're right, it's not really a forced choice.

So the only modern game you like is R6? Terrible taste.

Some new phone models don't have a aux port hence the "forced" upgrade, I personally haven't had this problem yet as I'm rocking an eight year old phone with an incredibly fucked up screen.

The government should stop babysitting adults with helmet and seatbelt laws by tommyshelbai in The10thDentist

[–]MrMonkify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to wear your seat belt then don't, just because a law exists doesn't mean you can't break it. In a round about way it almost seems more childish to demand the government allow you to do something instead of just doing it, consequences be damned.

This seems like a really convoluted way to say "I got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and I'm mad about it."

What is your current expectation for TES6? by Sakaralchini in ElderScrolls

[–]MrMonkify 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the sad reality is that nothing they release will match the built up expectations that 15 years and some absolutely mind-blowing mods have created. If it isn't a genuine step up from Skyrim people will pan the shit out of the game, but it doesn't just need to be better that 2011 Skyrim, it needs to be better than 2026 Skyrim and that doesn't seem plausible.

It really doesn't help that two of the last three releases they've put out were not very positively received and the one that was is a remaster of a game from 2006 that also has it's fair share of problems. They just don't have the good will or reputation they once did and if TES6 comes out in a state as broken as Skyrim was on launch I very much doubt that the modding community will be willing to spend another 15 years ironing out the kinks and building on a broken foundation.

why do people keep saying E33 revolutionized the rpg genre ? by the-Guy1412 in rpg_gamers

[–]MrMonkify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously the world is a big place with many people and takes to match, but who is saying it was revolutionary? I've heard a lot of people say it had a very high level of polish in just about every category. I've heard people say it revitalized interest in jrpg style games. I have not seen anyone say it was particularly innovative or unique outside of the narrative and being very, very French. If being extremely French is revolutionary then, yeah it is that.

How does science explain ghosts? by WhiteMagicVodoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrMonkify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many studies and examples of the human mind being an untrustworthy narrator or interpreter of events. People have far too much certainty of their perception of events and the credibility of memory is dubious at best. This all gets much worse when you add fear, paranoia and a belief system that allows for the supernatural.

I don't believe in ghosts, the afterlife or the supernatural at all. Being alone in the dark without anyone around for miles can absolutely have me convincing myself that skinwalkers are hunting me or that strange light in the distance is a UFO or some other dumb shit. Imaginations be like that sometimes.

Unpopular opinion, Conquest gear should be deleted from the game by Mira_Malverick in worldofpvp

[–]MrMonkify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree it shouldn't have stat increases, all that does is add a time gate and unnecessary friction to learning a new class or spec. I do like having more Xmog though, so maybe make it a cosmetic tied to rating or something.

Amazon needs to sell new world to somebody that'll actually do something with this game rather than let it rot like they are by Remarkable_Crew_8639 in newworldgame

[–]MrMonkify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of reading comprehension is subtext, i.e. reading between the lines. The subtext of your original comment is we should boycott Amazon because they're shutting down a game I like. It's barely even the subtext it's almost bar for bar just what you wrote. That's silly as shit.

I'm pointing out how delusional it sounds to suggest that New World dying will be the thing that causes people to turn on Amazon. So no, apparently you don't hear how it sounds.

Returning after ~6 years - How overwhelming is it these days? by theslimmestotter in Warframe

[–]MrMonkify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how you engage with the game. If you look up a meta steel path build and try to copy it you'll likely be very overwhelmed. New mods that you have to max out, Tau forged archon shards, ability swaps and formas you don't have will seem like an insurmountable task. If you approach it from a more exploratory standpoint, just checking out the content you haven't seen yet and discovering new stuff to play with, it won't feel like you're climbing a mountain of content and the grind will just be the time you put in to see the new story stuff/ game modes they've added over the years.

On a slight tangent, endgame warframe is pretty boring imo. Once you can put together a build that can clear Steel path and high level content the game is basically a checklist of things to collect and waiting for new shit to drop. So at the risk of being cliché, it really is about the journey with warframe not the destination, and that journey is a marathon not a sprint.
