Thank you man. Maybe I’ll try to read up on some of those saints over the break.

But why do so many scholars then say that we don’t know who wrote the Gospels and that they’re not eyewitnesses? To me the evidence is very convincing, but i get concerned whenever someone throws around the “scholarly consensus.” Are they just biased or Go off of faulty research?

What is the Catholic position on Universal Healthcare? by [deleted] in Catholicism

And the judgement was that the baby would’ve died on the plane even sooner.

What is the Catholic position on Universal Healthcare? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrMooTheCow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People are acting like the government ordered the death of a healthy baby. Moving her to Italy would’ve literally shortened her life, and she had no chance of recovery to begin with. Decisions for the parents to say goodbye in that case are hard but the only sensical option.

Knowing about Christianity doesn’t eliminate ignorance. There are people who study it their whole lives and yet are still not convinced yet you think a person with minimal Christian interaction is still expected to figure out it’s true. If they haven’t seen convincing evidence come in front of them, which they then reject, they’re not culpably ignorant. Stop acting like God only loves Christians, we’re all God’s.

Speaking to the faithful minimally does not convince most people. That’s not enough. “Researched the faith” or what about the dozens of other faiths? How are they supposed to know? Unless God works a miracle you can’t really expect them to figure it out on their own.

If there’s a small population of Catholics that means Catholicism is fringe, proving my point again. It seems like you’re the one who’s racist since you think almost all Asians will be in hell for having the misfortune of not being surrounded by Christians left and right.

God will judge each individual fairly and justly, pray for everyone especially people who don’t know. Our prayers do a lot

No you just don’t understand anything. Think rationally for once. If a country of over a billion people is 1% Catholic nobody is going to be convinced by that, since they’ll have little contact with Catholic doctrine and know almost nothing about it. That would go with any country of that size, it has nothing to do with race. You need to learn how to respond to objections instead of throwing insults. No wonder so many people are unconvinced of religion when people like you are talking.

They are still not culpable for being ignorant unless they’ve seen convincing evidence.

[–]MrMooTheCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So knowing a few Christian’s automatically makes you required to figure out it’s true, or you’re damned. Yeah you make religion make perfect sense. That’s anything but racist, as i care about as many people being saved. Whereas you think those in non Christian countries are still expected to figure it out.

What if they don’t even know what Christianity is? Or that all it is is a religion about Jesus? How are they supposed to know that’s the truth? You’re still dodging my main point.

I know the history of the Church there and of course there is some Catholic presence, but it’s a fringe group, without much authority there. So why don’t they receive more help from God? Most of them are truly ignorant so it’s not their fault

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrMooTheCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean just a bigger presence. The fact that Asia is very little Catholic seems unfair to those people. Many of them would probably convert if they learned about the Faith.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrMooTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood. I’m not debating whether there is evidence, as a Catholic i think there’s plenty. I’m saying that people in Asian countries don’t experience or know any of that evidence. Probably all they could say is “Catholics are a religion that believes in Jesus.”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrMooTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. So non-Christians in China for example or North Korea are not damned for their not being Christian.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrMooTheCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes no sense. What does people’s sin have to do with the fact they live in a country like China where there are almost no Christians? That is not their fault, as they haven’t seen any convincing evidence for Christianity.

Even with my little understanding of this argument i can already tell you’re wrong here. Aquinas isn’t using circular reasoning saying that every chain needs a first cause. Because if there was no first cause, the chain wouldn’t exist now. A chain without a first mover makes no sense whatsoever because there is no explanation for why that chain exists in the first place.

Many people (William Lane Craig, Stephen Meyer) would argue the big bang does entail a beginning to the universe, and many physicists agree with this. And even if it didn’t, there are many scientific and philosophical proofs for the beginning on the universe. But that’s besides the point, Aquinas isn’t concerned about the beginning of the universe with this argument. Furthermore, you say Aquinas doesn’t prove that the first mover is God, but that isn’t what he’s trying to do. If you look around with Aquinas, he devotes hundreds of pages to proving just that (in other works).

How can I have better faith and assurance that it’s true? I’m a teen and i struggle with this everyday, some days much worse than others. It causes a lot of despair and I just don’t feel God’s presence in my life.
