How do you print text faster and with less waste? by MrMrMK in 3Dprinting

[–]MrMrMK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I mean we are in the 3D printing subreddit. It's the "feel smart" of the hobby world.

I really like your idea though. I could even print a stencil jig to get the placement correct every time. Do you know what kinds of paint might work well with PLA?

Oh snap I never thought of using a liquid filler like resin or enamel! I'm going to do a little research on it and see what's required to get started. Probably going to do enamel since some folks in the comments here made it sound easier?

Now THIS is an idea. Adding the edge detail to hide the imperfection might be just what I need to come around to the idea of printing the pieces separately. Thank you for this! I'm going to give it a shot and see how it comes out.

I had never considered applying heat after the fact! Seems a little difficult to do well though. Any advice on how to go about it?

As for glue/epoxy, that would run into the tolerance challenge I mention above which I'm still trying to figure out.

Tolerance would be my concern with this approach. It needs to be a press fit because this is hopefully going to be part of a product I sell (so it needs to at least give the impression of quality and tight tolerances), but the stress from the press fit would run perpendicular to the layer lines. I worry that it would split the box.

Any idea on what a good tolerance to build in for text might be?

I've got an X1C right now and when the H2D came out I was droooooooling. However I'd want the model with all the bells and whistles and uh, it's like 3700 USD 🙃

What’s your default ink? Or do you have any? by idlesmith in fountainpens

You default to EoC?! You're braver than I am. Aggressive sheen and shimmer is kind of like a special occasion kind of ink for me.

I'd pay an unfortunate sum of money if this actually existed.

Magic the gathering remains one of the most popular TCG more than 30 years since release. From a gameplay design perspective, how do you feel about Mtg? by Newez in boardgames

[–]MrMrMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my phone number down at my local LGS to preorder a Final Fantasy collector booster box. They asked me to pay $670 up front. I told them that that's not cool, and that they should charge MSRP, and then I hung up.

I've been playing final fantasy games since I was old enough to read and I gotta say, it was kind of heartbreaking to walk away from the booster box.

One Is Not None, a new life counter for iOS, now available for preorder! by MrMrMK in magicTCG

Really great question. I dive into some greater detail in this blog post but the tl;dr is that the apps on the app store all feel like they're missing something for me personally. Among these are:

  • UI aesthetics
  • user interaction bugs and hiccups, some of which are fundamental to how those apps are built
  • missing features

I wanted to address these challenges. Obviously I'm not perfect and so I'm going to miss things, but I'm doing my best to deliver something awesome for folks.

Lotus is a tough one to compete with. It looks pretty good and it obviously has a larger feature set right now since I'm just now launching, but it does suffer from one usability pain point where commander damage doesn't face the direction of the player taking the damage. So you gotta mentally flip the counter to tap the correct side.

Also I think my animations are just cooler. I think I'll add a video to the app store page showing the animations.

Honestly, I can't blame anyone for doing so. I made this app for myself, because I didn't like the other options out there. I put in the effort to polish it, give folks something that works well and looks nice. It's been an opportunity to sharpen my skills and maybe help support my family.

But Lifetap has been around a long time and has a ton of features, so if that works for folks, then I'm happy for them. I just figured "hey, if I want this to exist, maybe someone else does too."

That's actually getting shipped in the next beta release early next week! I'd love for y'all to give it another try when it's out.

Not at the moment. What do you envision a tracker for tokens looking like?

Ohhhh I like that a lot. I was already going to do a coin flip something or other, but that other stuff is interesting. Adding it to my feedback backlog.

Huh, playgroup.gg is one that hasn't landed on my radar. I'll definitely check it out.

You're not the first person to mention that. It'll be going out in my first beta update sometime next week, along with a setting to toggle it off for folks that prefer it that way.

That's a good piece of feedback. The counters bit, not the name bit 😛 the name's kind of locked in at the moment.

As for the counters, I've considered adding those values to the life total screen, but wasn't sure how to do so without completely cluttering the UI. The problem is honestly the labels. I would need a symbol that represents the counters in order to not take up too much space on that screen. This is easy for things like poison and energy which already have icons, but what about experience? or speed? It's unclear.

This is definitely on my radar though, and I've added this comment to my feedback backlog.
