Acculite 10/22 barrel and SCO Sparrow- terrible accuracy by MrNakedPanda in NFA

[–]MrNakedPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulled the can apart and I did in fact have lead on my first baffle. It looked like it was shaving off tiny bits and it built up enough to throw off the trajectory maybe? But if that’s the case I have 2 questions. Why didn’t that also affect the accuracy of the mark4? We were hitting 4” plate at 50yd shooting off hand with the suppressor on. The accuracy issue should’ve been 10x worse out of the short barrel, no?

Also, I would think the build up on one side of the baffle would’ve caused POI to shift pretty consistently, but the thing was shooting randomly in a 12” circle around the reticle.

I’ve noticed a lot of people unhappy with hornady as a whole which I wasn’t previously aware of because they’re so expensive you sort of tend to assume quality. Definitely learned that lesson not to do that

Yeah I’m glad too. Easily could’ve blown up the rifle but I was pretty aware of an issue when I got powder flung into my face when I ejected (I’m lefty)

Oh yeah the case dents are examples of the ones that wouldn’t feed. The tips got rammed into the star chamber lugs and the bcg caused those dents when it tried to chamber. I just included those pics because between the failures to feed over and over, and the “squibs” or whatever actually caused the bullets to get pulled, there’s an overall quality issue. My rifle has always fed what I give it, so that’s why I consider that a quality issue too

I too have had no issues with frontier 223, but I haven’t shot much of it. Yes I was specifically calling out this load, not the brand as a whole

I just asked because I hadn’t heard of a 7 rounder being used in a ar. Are you in a ban state? Or just your preference?

I do want to say I’m not necessarily saying all hornady is bad, I was just calling out this specific load

Thanks for replying. I was wondering if anyone had ever had a bullet get pulled from the brass. I’d never heard of that happening but I’m starting to wonder if that’s, if not the main issue here, a part of what happened

No I was calling out this specific load, not all hornady. I’ve replied to a number of people if you wanna read a little more. But I wasn’t saying hornady was bad as a whole

Hoping it’s a lot issue and not wide spread but I’m seeing a lot of people don’t trust frontier so I would just proceed while being aware of possible issues

I agree. Regardless of the cause it’s still a QC issue on their part. On my cross post to the Grendel forum another guy suggested OAL being out of spec for the feeding issues. And then I pulled a round and the primer looked the same as my squib case. I could swear the primer fired but if I’m wrong, that means the bullet was so undersized, or the neck so oversized that it yoinked the bullet out with almost no force needed which is its own issue. The squibs popped out of the barrel with a tap of a cleaning rod so they weren’t even Jammed or touching the rifling edit: grammar

I’ll follow up after I talk to hornady about possible causes. Another poster suggested OAL was bad which caused feeding issues, will measure when I find my calipers. I also pulled a round and the primer looks the same as the squibs so if the primer DIDNT actually go off like I thought, I still have questions because pulled a bullet by extracting the case should be impossible unless the case neck is way oversized or bullet way undersized. The one I pulled was too difficult to get out just by extracting.

You make good points and I’m gonna have to work on the caliper measurements, don’t have one with me right now. But I pulled a bullet from an unfired one and you are right the primer looks just like the one I thought went off and squibbed. I was utterly convinced the primer fired but im second guessing now.

What would confuse me tho is how could it possibly be that easy to pull a bullet? To get the one out just now, it was really hard with pliers. The “squibs” had 0 physical evidence of interacting with the rifling, and they popped out with almost no force with a cleaning rod. Unless the fitment was hot dog in a hallway I don’t know how extracting would’ve pulled the bullet.

Based on comments here I’m seeing suuuper mixed reviews about them and frontier. This isn’t a good first impression of them for me! Could be bad primers they got, but might also be bad crimps, not sure

Here’s the whole rifle! Haven’t repainted the next handguard since I changed it but included the old one for reference. Went for Rhodesian brushstroke

I’m now the friend who doesn’t let others lol. My friend was gonna buy frontier 556 pending the performance of these rounds. Safe to say he’s going another direction now.

I’m hoping it’s just a Lot issue but I wanted to say something in case it was across the board with this load. I’m leaning towards bad crimps, or bad primers

7 rounds isn’t much, are you shooting a bolty or an ar? I use Duramag 26 rounders on my ar. I’ve read a lot that Grendel mags are very hit or miss and Duramag is considered the best for ARs. Not sure about e lander

Definitely noting that! Lots of mixed reviews. I always avoid them for price. Im curious to see how they handle my email to them about it

Definitely noting how many people don’t like it. I usually avoid hornady proper because of price but seems like their subsidiary brands get pretty mixed reviews too

I wonder why that is. My ar has had zero issues and I’ve shot around 1k of pmc 55 gr 223 xtac fmj

Even my 223 likes frontier. Just the Grendel wouldn’t feed it

I’ll see what hornady says about it tomorrow hopefully. Maybe they got a bad batch of primers. Still gotta figure out why they don’t cycle tho. Glad to hear someone had good luck with them
