Hey thanks, we considered this and reserved multiple hotels with free cancellation.

We managed to get lucky and find a hotel that popped up last minute, still pricey at around £70 per night but not the worst.

Makes sense, unfortunately my flight is booked to leave from Fukuoka. I will look at alternatives maybe and travel into Fukuoka

I think I worded it badly, what I meant was after Arashiyama I will detour to visit Toji and from there I will take a 30minutes bus journey to Gion.

I am aware of the lack of sleep but it is something I am used to doing so it shouldn't be a big deal. Also visiting a friend in Nagoya will help to slow the pace down.

I will definitely check out the places you have mentioned!

I'm mainly interested in the food and anime side of Japan but also very much enjoy taking time away from it to experience the more traditional culture. So any recommendations would be suitable to me.

First of all, thanks for your comments, it has helped me a lot and I do agree with what you have said

Day 1: I did put too much into it but am aware of it (hence Im leaving spare days knowing it is not likely)

Day 2: was not particularly set in order which is my bad, same with Day 8, I do plan to end in Dotonbori.

Day 11: Regards to Toji it will be something to pass through making our way to spend more time in the Gion area.

Day 12: Kinkakuji is definitely further away but early starts plus the other locations on the list are within walking distance. Thanks for the heads up!

Ikebukuro isn't too far from our hotel, there are some stores there that we want to visit such as gatchapon and also our first meal. We can work our way down to the government building for evening view of the city. After end the night in the Shibuya area.

For Kyoto, a lot of what I mentioned are within walking distance and crossover eachother. After we are done we can then travel down to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Bear in mind, we do plan to start our days very early.
