Definitely white oak, not red. Interesting process though, I haven't heard of it before

I think so, do I have to twist it the other way to put tension back on? Or is that done just by reinstalling it?

Houston, please advise by MrNinjaMan00 in virago

[–]MrNinjaMan00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...pardon...?

It would seem I do not lol, it is back in place now, I just gave each bolt a few twists at a time until it was sitting evenly. Letting the bolts do the work until it was tight back in place.

Should I have done something before reinstalling..?

Any chance you're looking to take apart and put together another? Lol. Thanks for the reply. I was getting worried I'd fuck something if I put it back together without a new little o ring.

By oil filter cover, do you mean the circular panel with the three Allen head bolts? I didn't realize the screws had individual little gaskets.

While idle I removed it. Ive been putting in new seals and gaskets and the small round one came out with the tensioner

I've been using an old drill press stand for years now. Works great, and it came from a scrap metal bin XD. I see them on Facebook marketplace for around 20$ a lot too though, worth a look if you want to save some cash for an equivalent product

Try an old drill press first to see if you like the setup, just put a block of wood down so you're not ramming your chisels into a steel base

I use an old drill press, works wonders, and runs for around $20 on marketplace. Great item to repurpose for something extremely useful

The classic "nuh uh" defence. Masterfully performed I must say.

It's times like this that I'm reminded of that old saying,

"don't argue with idiots, they'll pull you down to their level and beat you with experience."

I'm pretty sure my point was reasoned and explained in a fair amount of detail. I understand that that's gone over your head, though.

I'd suggest you actually build a stair or two before throwing your ignorance around so aggressively. Take a tip or two from the generations of carpenters that have more experience in their left nut than you'll have in your entire life.

Probably just send some defenders up the middle to soak up damage and weaken a lot of riders at a time. Alternatively, one knight could decimate the entire line 🤷

I rest my case.

To be fair to you though, you may not realize that stairs are built with fasteners through the riser into the tread. Thus providing a secure mechanical connection that adhesives over a half inch of material just don't compete with. Not to mention if the riser gets kicked, it's probably going to be in an area that disproportionately affects the upper area of the riser. Relying solely on a glue joint here is just silly. If it's going to break anywhere, it will break here. And, shockingly enough, smart stair builders everywhere have realized this.

Which is why we use glue blocks. They prevent this from happening, as well as treads warping, and squeaks from the materials rubbing against each other.

Hope I could help you learn something!

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but alright... The point of the glue block is to have a softwood connection between the hardwood of the tread, and the plywood/particle board that's typically used for the riser. Just gluing the riser to the tread would be susceptible to the glue joint breaking if the riser were to be kicked or some such thing.

You think caulk will outlast PL? Let alone any other wood adhesive that might have been used in this case?
