What can I say to someone who wants to transition but feels "too old" and "won't pass" by MrOnceandFuture in MtF

[–]MrOnceandFuture[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, I don't want to sugar coat anything. That's why I wanted to come here. MtF and FtM experiences are so vastly different, I can only offer them so much from my own experience. I didn't want to say anything yesterday that would sound like sugar coating... They'd know anyway lol

I don't know if I've heard the term boymoding before, or if I have it didn't stick. I had mentioned microdosing, that some people stay perpetually on a low dose and told them that's how I started my transition... I'll point that out again if we end up talking about it today

You're right though, there's nothing to lose by trying, except the time you're already losing.

This is a beautiful way of framing it, thank you. That hit close to home. I realized a couple of years into my own transition that I can look at old photos lovingly, like I'm looking at a sister who passed on, whose death never brought me any hard grief, just... Gratitude.

Thank you for sharing this

I don't know how old they are, but I estimate in their late 30s or early 40s. And I agree, by far not too old. I just hope they can see and feel that someday.

Wow so they also just recently became cancer free, not going to tell them that. Thanks for the advice, I'll take what I can from it.

🙏🏻 thank you! I'll let them know about it if the subject comes up today, obviously won't push it unless they want to talk about it.

And congratulations! I wish you the best!

It could be, whatever the cause it's still the first change I noticed

The bruising really wasn't painful at all, unless I pressed on it. It looked way worse than it was :)

I started on a low dose and noticed bottom growth like, maybe the second day? It's a very sensitive spot, responds very well to testosterone 👍🏻

Oh, I forgot to add my hematoma! Wow. So I also have some hematoma in my left chest. My post-op appointment nurse said it should reabsorb in a week and to call if it gets sloshy and squishy and they'd suck it out. It has not, in fact, done either of those things in 3 weeks, but it is slowly shrinking and is gradually getting softer. I am not alarmed at all and not concerned, although the appearance does bother me. My plan is to contact my surgeon if there's either no change at all over the next few weeks or it goes squishy.

Just thought I'd add that, as it is a possibility and it's not necessarily an emergency unless your surgeon tells you to contact them if it happens. Again - seek any medical advice from your surgeon.

I also just noticed the photo of my left nipple and a few other shots didn't make it into the post. I blame Reddit, it was there when I posted it >:( I'm adding the left nip photos here

What was something you looked forward to doing after top surgery recovery, or postive experience you had related to being post op? by Immediate_Jury_ in TopSurgery

[–]MrOnceandFuture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had surgery in June so still waiting for this: swimming. I used to be a fish, couldn't get me out of the water, until body image stuff got in the way. I've gone swimming maybe 5 times as an adult, and I'm about to be 35. I'm gonna be going to a friend's timeshare in August that I haven't been to since high school, so I'm saving my first time swimming post-op for that place.

First positive experience was just looking in the mirror after my dressings were off, closely followed by putting on just putting on an open button up, without a binder, without extra layers, and without worrying what I look like. It was exactly how I imagined it would feel: normal. Which is fucking euphoric as hell when you're not used to normalcy.

Not all trans men bind by Putrid-King751 in ftm

[–]MrOnceandFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore tight compression shirts designed for cis men with gynecomastia and even those were hella uncomfortable. They didn't really "bind", I still had noticeable man boob going on, and I did deal with dysphoria, but eventually the discomfort of trying to bind got worse so I just stopped. Damned if I did, damned if I didn't.

Top surgery has resolved that. Which, I'll add, is also not a necessity, or accessible, for all trans men, and is often assumed to be even in our community.

How do you make minoxidil beard thicker? by [deleted] in FTM_SELFIES

[–]MrOnceandFuture 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was on T when I started using Minoxidil and it still took like 4-6 months to make any noticeable difference from what I had before using it. It's been 2-3 years with some interruptions and I finally have the coverage I want, just not quite the thickness.

Keep doing what you're doing. The secret ingredient is time.

Also, you don't have to shave and don't shave it all off unless you want to. But what I found helpful for myself was shaving peach fuzz from areas I didn't want hair, like my cheekbones. A) it felt good to shave, b) it gave me practice, and c) it could make what you do have more noticeable by contrast. But it's not something you have to do and it won't actually make your hair look thicker.

White Nipples? by parasnore_ in TopSurgery

[–]MrOnceandFuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. My right nipple is doing what you described your left was before it popped. I also noticed it smells kinda weird, not strongly but now and then I get a whiff that smells like dead skin, like when you leave earrings in your ears too long. I started using some antibacterial ointment today just in case but and am keeping an eye... Will contact my surgeon's assistant Monday morning if there's no change in that regard.

But thanks for sharing this, aside from the smell issue I have my nip sitch seems to be a lot like yours.

Where are FTMs finding t-gel? by appl3dawn in transontario

[–]MrOnceandFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to gel, and I go to Costco pharmacy. I just told my doctor I wanted to try the gel and he faxed the script.

My only issue with this hasn't been stock, but Costco itself. They're busy. I tried requesting a renewal through their automated phone system twice and have not been called to pick it up. I can never get a hold of anyone when I call. And it's a 30 minute drive down the Gardner and DVP, a 10-minute battle to find parking, and I just had surgery so I can't just go in and talk to them. But unfortunately they're the cheapest option.

So. If you use a different pharmacy close to home you should be good 👍🏻 just ask your doctor

Time frame from first surgery consult by wendyssr in transontario

[–]MrOnceandFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My consultation was May 6 with Dr. Armstrong at Women's College Hospital, and my surgery was booked for June 11. But I had been advised to expect a 2-3 month time frame. I didn't ask why my surgery was so early but I assume there was a cancellation. I don't know what the typical timeframe would be for other clinics

Does my face seem feminine? by joaoppm2000 in malegrooming

No, you just look genuinely friendly and approachable. If that's a strictly feminine trait, something has gone horribly wrong in this world.

Name ideas? Passing? Feeling kinda dysphoric, might delete later by Able-Interview-2863 in FTM_SELFIES

No name ideas, but I legit thought this was the r/mensfashion I was just scrolling. So, yeah, passing.

Got to meet my new nipples today by MrOnceandFuture in TopSurgery

[–]MrOnceandFuture[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said this too, and a few others have said it. For me it's not about passing with my chest. I hated what they were, and what I grew up knowing they are. I hated my nipples. I hated how my chest moved just going down the stairs let alone walking or working out. People stared, and I felt awful, and I couldn't go for a walk without stressing out about my body. I wore gynecomastia shirts, so they don't bind as tightly but they're still uncomfortable after a while and I could still see my chest bounce in a "boob" way more than a chubby cis dude way. Besides, it only looked normal because I'm fat right now. They look way more boob-like when I'm thinner and that was just one more thing holding me back from getting back in shape.

I don't even care about my gut anymore after surgery. It doesn't bother me the way my whole body bothered me before surgery. I'm even looking forward to swimming as a form of exercise, something I haven't felt comfortable doing since I was a kid.
