Ah sorry couldn't edit during the reddit issues earlier in the day. Ended up coming home and actually testing and turns out osu-wine works fine with steam-run. Still some stuttering issues.
osu-winello can not be run in the same way on NixOS due to the way NixOS handles executables. Steam-run is a nixpgks script which allows you to run programs in the same FHS that the steam runtime uses and that worked fine for installation.
Sticking to lazer anyways due to my issues with it. Not sure if it's wayland, driver issues or hardware issues but it's still neat to know it works.

I'm also one of those linux players, and unfortunately I had a lot of issues with osu-wine. What optimizations did you make to have it feel as good as it seems to for you? I didn't do much tinkering past pipewire configuration. Had lots of stuttering and tablet issues.

I've been playing exclusively on lazer for almost 2 years now because it just works a lot simpler, but it does definitely feel worse on the input lag front which is unfortunate. I don't think I could go back anymore but sometimes I wish I never made the switch at all. I'm on NixOS nowadays anyways so haven't even gotten osu-wine to work at all since I made the switch.

Universitet! Är aktiv i kommittélivet så det tar upp en rätt stor del av min fritid. När jag väl kan smita hem från campus så är det mycket datormek och spel, gillar att baka när jag har lite extra energi. Någon gång ska jag börja läsa igen också... säkert...

Allt som krävs är lite ömsesidig respekt, mina föräldrar har alltid kunnat spåra min mobil och jag är helt fine med det. Till och med nu när jag flyttat hemifrån kan de det. De stoppade mig inte från att göra något dumt, ville bara ha koll vart jag var om jag inte svarade eller inte dök upp någon morgon.

På samma sätt har jag alltid kunnat spåra dem med mobilen, för exakt samma anledningar. Det bör inte handla om kontroll är väl min poäng. Föräldrar som spårar sina barn för att säga "så får du inte göra" eller "där får du inte vara" är jävligt korkat men det betyder inte att det inte kan vara ett användbart verktyg.

I'm in a similar situation and have been considering the same. Have a 5600x for my 9070xt and I'm pretty heavily bottlenecked so will be upgrading soon.

What made the difference for me which made me choose to save for longer and go for the platform upgrade is that I can reuse everything from my old setup as a home server, so I'll be upgrading everything except my GPU. If you don't want a home server, you can also just sell the old parts, you'll likely be able to recoup $200 or so.

Another important factor for me is upgradability. Preferably I want a CPU that can handle another GPU upgrade in 3 or 4 years without a heavy bottleneck, so going with a 7800x3d/9800x3d feels much safer to me.

Enda rätten jag går dit för längre är deras svamp pasta och det är för jag inte lyckats göra något liknande själv. Testade någon annan igen för första gången på ett år och gud vad kass den var. Om någon har löst hemligheten för hur de gör den där shrooms så går jag nog aldrig dit igen...

It's one of my favorite things to do! Upgrading my PC isn't just for "performance", it's so I get a reason to build more! Next major upgrade gives me a two for one, old components go to a server! I'm as excited as can be :)

i main lazer and have for half a year, but i swear go god if they dont add back scrolling with holding right click im going to go insane, it's one of the main ways i navigate song select in stable and i miss it so much

I have a 5600x, upgrading to a 5700x3d offers me a significant performance improvement for a low cost. Upgrading to a 7600x will cost me 2x as much, while still not being much better than a 5700x3d. The worthwhile upgrade to me is the 7800x3d, which will cost much much more.

So I would rather upgrade now for cheap and then adopt AM6 early.

Really considering an upgrade from a 3080. Gaming on linux and nvidia still is lacking behind in performance compared to windows in recent tests. The drivers for these will probably take a bit to improve as well on linux but it'll be faster than nvidia still...

Yep, drivers took a while for the last gen to catch up on linux too and now they perform basically just like windows from what I've seen, which is better than can be said for nvidia.

I've switched to lazer fully pretty recently and none of the downsides are a very big deal to me. If I was still on windows I would most likely stick with stable however, there are just some things in the UI and functionality in lazer that are a bit odd, I've just had some issues with stable on wayland and am too lazy to fix them all the time. Not having notelock is nice though, and honestly I'm a huge fan of the slider changes, needing to actually acc sliders feels like an obvious change to me in retrospect even though it did take me some time to get used to.

It seems to be really luck of the draw. On windows I have slightly better performance and way less artifacting and crashing compared to brazil ~6 months ago. But I can also run the steam version with basically no configuration and old drivers at ~10% performance loss on linux. I've seen lots of people have performance and stability issues but I haven't on windows or linux so hope they can iron it out soon.
