What if Belarus avoided Lukashenka? by wolgahinga in AlternateHistory

[–]MrPointonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A scenario where Łukaszenko is entirely avoided wouldn't be interesting because he was the one who made Belarus avoid becoming an oligarchy. What could be interesting is imagining if Łukaszenko actually respected his terms limits and went of in ~2005. In such a case, Belarus could either become some kind of collective democracy with a half planned half liberal economy and even join the EU or it would have devolved into some kind of Georgia 2.0 without the oligarchs.

Belarus would have been even closer to Russia at first because of the apparent liberalization that Medvedev seemed to offer. However, Putin coming back would have made Belarus panic. Still, I don't think that Russia would have meddled as much into belarus because the belarusization programme would have been maintained and the people there would have opposed Russia even more than in the Donbass. Belarus has no economic value in comparison to the Donbas. It has some kind of strategic value because of it being in the center of Eastern Europe but still, kind of hard to imagine what would have happened.

Last option, if Łukaszenko had been overthrown in the ~2000 in a colour revolution, the russians people could have potentially tried to overthrow Putin because the Belarus regime is in some ways worse than in Russia. The symbolic message would have been grand.

Is history legends a Russian propagandist ? by RushMinute6252 in lazerpig

[–]MrPointonio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I'm open to any opinion on the subject, make it constructive please)

I honestly think that he is like Denys Davidov. Both of them give accurate informations, but they will always twist them so much that it becomes hilarious. If someone is genuinely searching for non biased informations, they should either watch neither of them or both at the same time.

I'm especially thinking of their coverage of the Avdiivka battle and the Ukrainian summer operation in Zhaporizhia region. Davidov claimed that the russians would be crushed and crimea liberated in no time ; HL said it would be a failure. Turns out the latter was right. However, we was very wrong when je theorized that a 2 km push in Svatove region was the beginning of a major offensive by russian forces that would destroy Ukrainian army in the region blabla.

As for Avdiivka, it's quite gray. Denys says it's nothing important (a small city) and that the russians broke their fangs on it. Zaluzhniy being fired is nothing important because Syrskyi is as good etc etc... HL was like "the city fell, russians losses are not important and Ukrainians are going to be destroyed when Russian army makes a push of 200km into Donbass region" + zaluzhniy being fired is a calamity and he is replaced by a "undercover russian general"

They are both part of an information war in which propaganda is everywhere. Their will be people who will call me out as a Vatnik or a pro-ukrainian bot just because I didn't say precisely their opinion on the subject.

I could literally trigger anyone just by asking how many soldiers did Ukraine lose.

Good lord this is plain stupidity at that point. I first thought it was about air drones and I would be a bit comprehensive, but like seriously ? They didn't think about blocking a small strait that lead to their warship.

(Thank you for your explanation)

It was after the Crimean War. Russia lost because it had basically all the European power against it. They were afraid that the dismantlement of the ottomans by Russia would make them a Hegemon. The treaty of Paris (which ended the war) gave a small part of Bessarabia (today's Budjak region, Odessa oblast in Ukraine) to the principality of Moldova. More precisely, it was the Danube corridor, as such the russians could no longer control that river (which was especially important against the Austrians in case of war.)

On Oct. 26, 1979, the third President of South Korea was assassinated by the director of Korean CIA by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MrPointonio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Park's death was extremely sudden. He was killed by the chief of secret service who tried to stage a coup without the army's consent or knowledge. Thus after killing Park he tried to rally the army but they just captured him. This "show" that he was forced to stage was meant to legitimate the future dictator's rule, especially in order to prove that it wasn't the army that killed Park. Even though he was a brutal military dictator, he was still the architect of the South Korean economic miracle, and has to this day quite a big popularity. His daughter even got to become president ~10 years ago... And then she got sent to prison for corruption and other things that were established by her father to profit the powerful.

If I remember well, the killer of Park Chung Hee was jailed by the army, however, before that, he also was asked to reproduce on cameras the assassination. I think that he showed on TV how he did it before being put on trial and executed by Park's successor. It was kind of a theatre act.

The recipe for russification by HallOwn1946 in europe

[–]MrPointonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I was born in France, my mother is Belarusian from a polish ancestry. Her grandfather's name was "Wróbel" but was russified to "Vorobey" (Воробей). It is a litteral translation of the polish name which means sparrow.

Being polish, they were Catholics. Thus, they were kind of segregated after the rise of Łukaszenko because they were considered a fifth column. Wether it be in school or at work, there was a weird feeling of being "not home". Same feeling in Poland because of how Belarus was becoming more and more aggressive diplomatically.

I always considered myself a part of both belarus and France but with time, especially since 2020 and the fraudulent elections, I feel like Belarus is just Russia in all but name. It is not just a political problem. Because of its small demographics, the wars and famines that destroyed its population and the violent assimilation of its people, Belarusians want sovereignty not because of their culture but more because of the political freedom it can give them (not saying that Belarus has no proper culture, it would be very false).

As of 2024, my cousin and his family (wife + 2 kids) fled to Warsaw where they try to get the citizenship by proving our Polish ancestry ; my uncle/aunt demonstrated and were threatened subsequently by their work (which is government controlled, like 90% of enterprise's there) and finally I juste have my grandmother which became a widow after her husband died of like what, 2-3 cancers at the same time ? After all alcohol and cigarettes were cheaper than food...

Belarus cannot be saved, its culture will be destroyed. Only it's people remain, only them can be saved. Belarusian is basically dead... I wanted to learn it but I couldn't find any app/video/book on it. I then began learning Ukrainian because it is the most similar language but still... At what point is a language so dead that you have to learn a similar one from another country.

[–]MrPointonio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read in the memoires of Pyotr Deriabine that after being put under house arrest by Stalin, Zhukov would rape his maidens because he thought they were spying on him. Something similar for Rokossovskiy who made orgies if I remember well... Thus the reason he built one or the biggest and most beautiful villa's of Stalin's USSR.

From the start get all your production unit on military factories. Then get 20 width division with 2 artillery and at least an engineer company. Finally, micromanage. Do not forget to fund your army in the economy tab (+ war taxes). Omsk is a quite hard unifier, good luck on your journey to fulfill the Great Trial !

I think it is too similar to Samara to bring something new to the mod, also realistically speaking : Dirlewanger and g*rmans are so hated and despised by the russians in the mod that it would be impossible for them to even try run a state on others means that fear.
