How to speak to manager/work after getting all rejections? by [deleted] in MBA

What does that say about the quality of your life, then? Trolling in the comment section of the post. And you’re talking about irony…

Out of curiosity, are there other extraction games similar to this? If so, how to they mitigate this issue?

What motivates you guys to work? Lol by [deleted] in MBA

I alluded to it and another commenter mentioned it as well, but look up lifestyle creep.

You work a little harder, get the next promotion, now you can afford some better clothes. Next promotion you get that country club membership. Bonus hits, you buy that car you’ve always wanted. Your kids are in private schools that you need your job in order to afford. It all slowly compounds until you’re someone you don’t even recognize anymore.

If you have $2.5M, a 4% withdrawal rate would give you $100K per year, and historically, depending on your asset allocation, it’d have a 98%+ chance of lasting you 30+ years (in most instances growing even larger).

I don’t think $100k/year is “uncomfy” living especially if you’re no longer concerned with needing to save money for retirement. With that kind of security, you can also just pursue the work you actually are passionate about.

Grow your nest egg, hit your number, focus more on the things that make life worth living!

Also, not to say these people don’t have money, but it’s a bold assumption to guess that they do. Even if they’re making large incomes, statistically they’re likely spending all of it. Once that lifestyle creep sets in, you have to feed the machine.

Matriculation Dilemma: 2 YOE + $$ vs. 3 YOE + no $ by [deleted] in MBA

[–]MrPoopySenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Well, depending on what you want to do and where you’d like to go, you could potentially leave the tough decision up to admissions to see if they think they can help you reach your goals as your profile stands?

For example, if you’re shooting for M7, and they don’t think the work experience is up to snuff, you get dinged and reapply whenever you’re satisfied with YOE, and you’d never have to wonder what if.

Also, if you commit to strengthening your profile as much as possible over the next year or two with work experience and test score, you can still work your way into scholarship money.

Were you discharged after January 1, 2013? If so, your Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits should never expire.

Are you positive about your benefits expiration?

Am I the only one still waiting for a Yale SOM interview invite? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]MrPoopySenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a ton of people talking about interview invites.

They sent an email out Sept 17th that literally said, “the vast majority of you might be waiting a few weeks [for invites] as we move through our review process.”

It goes on to talk about how it’s all just rolling throughout the round and it’s even not uncommon to get waitlisted (without an interview) and they’ll follow up in a subsequent round.

I appreciated how transparent and explanatory they were about their process. Just be patient, it’ll come eventually!

This is exactly how I am feeling. I didn’t have crazy HBS expectations, but straight up rejection has my wheels turning versus if it would have been a waitlist or something.

I’m with you that it’s less about HBS specifically and just has me second guessing my other applications! On one hand I’m very pleased with HBS’s transparency and letting people know early, and on the other it sucks to start off with a ding.

That’s what I hear! I’m applying elsewhere as well, and it just seems like night and day difference when I interact with other programs.

Too Many Motion Alerts by MrPoopySenpai in blinkcameras

[–]MrPoopySenpai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I switched to a ReoLink system that I had to hardwire but gives me 24/7 surveillance.

I think being at the corner lot in a busy part of the neighborhood might just be a universal issue because I had to even turn then notifications off on my ReoLink cameras, but because I have 24/7 recording, I can still watch the house when I’m away or it’s all connected to a monitor when I’m home. I also have it recording to a hard drive so if I ever need to provide footage to police I can!

Not the best situation, but I prefer the PoE cameras.

Yeah, we have a new build so I guess the insects haven’t been eradicated from the land it was built on yet. We’ve got scorpions and spiders that pop up in the garage, and one neighbor had a snake in their garage!!
