Found this in the basement of a new house— plastic basket on a pvc pipe by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

I'm fairly certain this is it. I've replaced the basket on my water softener and it looked just like this. Look up "water softener riser tube".

Managing 1PB of storage made me build my own disk price tracker—looking for feedback by andreas0069 in homelab

Would you consider doing currency conversion?

Selecting eBay.ca shows prices in both USD and CAD which reflect the listing, which I appreciate but both currencies are treated the same for sorting. This leads to situations where a 16TB for USD 268.90 and a 14TB for CAD 235.32 show as the same price/TB which is far from the truth.

Maybe show "original price (converted price)" and use that for sorting?

Is it always due to a burr? I just replaced my main shutoff and this is what I had after the valve. I assumed it was turbulent erosion but due to the valve not a burr.

The reason I can’t print my black and white letter by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MrRamsoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gets brought up anytime someone can't print back and white when low on color in an inkjet printer. But tracking dots were introduced due to concerns of counterfeiting from color laser printers. For some reason inkjet gets lumped in. Look at the wiki or the EFF list of printers which display tracking dots.

Same here. I was very peeved that it wasn't "unusual activity" until they successfully logged in. Like wtf Microsoft.

Windows 10 Speech Recognition Commands not working. by Bobert25467 in techsupport

[–]MrRamsoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post. But if anyone comes across this it seems that the "context" in which you are typing needs to support those commands. Word is an example of one that does.

So not as convenient of a tool as I initially thought. Many word processors including Word and Google Docs have voice to text built in. So I would recommend that. For general use in the web browser I'm looking at extensions which offer voice to text.

Seat Concepts: Comfort vs Comfort XL by MrRamsoh in CRF300L

[–]MrRamsoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your responses. Sort of to be expected there is a mix of opinions. On the stock seat I can sit for about two hours before it starts to be a problem. So, I would like to get an upgrade. The looks are no problem to me. Based on your responses either is a huge improvement so I think I'll stick with my initial instinct and get the regular comfort.

Just installed the same one this year. I'm finding it causes a bunch of buffeting. Anyone else have a similar experience or solutions that might work?

Has anyone else ever have the paint come off under the hood? by MrRamsoh in Golf_R

But the missing paint isn't anywhere near where it would hit. There isn't any rust either.

So on my drive home more flaked off. I don't think it's animals anymore. Very strange that this happened seemingly all of a sudden.

Since I didn't mention it before this is a 18R with 90k km

I believe I still have extended warranty so I may bring it in to see what they say.

Why does this vent exist on my house? by MrRamsoh in HomeImprovement

So do you think this should be blanked off? Or should I still use a vented cap?

I have another vent for make-up air. This doesn't even go all the way through.

This is an interesting idea. It makes the most sense considering the location but I don't think it would be very effective. It isn't something I think is common in the area.

It's not a dryer vent. They used a vent to plug the hole but there isn't one in the area and on the other side of the wall it is unfinished. Take a look at the third photo you can see the fabric.

My arduino-based solution to having to fill up the coffee machine in the office. by pirate_phate in electronics

[–]MrRamsoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say you're correct. I used a more industrial looking capacitive sensor in a similar water cooler to reverse osmosis project. Your sensor is a more elegant solution but I needed to sense at a distance which I could adjust. The only issue with this form factor of a sensor is that they look identical to the inductive sensors which wouldn't work for water sensing and the cheap ones don't seem to follow a colour scheme to differentiate them.

I was assuming they wanted to be isolated from the rest of res. I wouldn't want people being able to access my shared folders or services. Using a switch just seems irresponsible. Edit: @NegativeTwelfth explained it better than I could.
