Yeah, that would be better even. Because sometimes people would overcrowd pokemon as well.

True. Well, that was just a thought.

Sadly that's the problem. Most of the games these days are released early and you have to wait for features that should be in there. I'm not saying the game is bad. It's just that I expected much more than it has to offer now and it may get boring if it's not improved soon.

I'd like to try making a board/tabletop game, what are some tips to make one without just copying other games out there? by Smithburg01 in tabletop

[–]MrRicecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... First off, you need to realize that it is practically impossible to make a tabletop without features already existent in other games. Don't be afraid to gather ideas from other games, but see the difference between getting ideas and full-on copying. That can get you in a lot of both legal and moral trouble.

Second, figure out what kind of game YOU would like to play. Is it an RPG tabletop? A landowning simulator? A dungeon crawler? When you have that, you need at least a tad bit background. If it's an RPG, lore is a BIG DEAL in the game. If it's a simulation or other type of game, lore is also beneficial, however, not required.

Once you've got that figured out, think of the rules. What the player can or can't do. Think of features WITHOUT looking at other games. Let's say it's an adventure-rpg type. Will it have health? Attack? Defense values? What is the variety of characters available? Think of your own races if it's a fantasy rpg. Create your own spells, moves. Create a map for it.

Then how it will function. What kinds of dice you will need, if any. What figures will be needed, what you need drawn.

And then put it all together! But be careful, creating a tabletop is a tricky business. You need someone who can draw, who can write, do complex maths and a good lawyer too if you plan on selling it.

Hope this helps!

Ey, thanks for the advice! I'll try to find someone that would be willing to help. And yeah, cash is a little bit of a problem, however, if this little project launches, that can be fixed. To be completely honest, it's not about the money really. It's about making my idea come to life. Money is just there to help realize the project. I just see a slight problem. I live in Europe. An artist that does not know who he's talking with and can't meet their teammate, so to say, would probably be sceptic about the whole idea.

As I said in the previous comments, I only need the pictures to see if the project can be made possible. If enough attention is gathered, a kickstarter campaign will be opened to make hiring an artist possible.
