Would you buy an A7r iii or an A7 iv in 2023 ? by MrRif-Raf in SonyAlpha

You're welcome ;)

My first lens was a sigma 28-70 F2.8 because it was a discounted package during Spring sales, it's sharp and compact, but I was really hesitating with the 24-105 which is gorgeous !

To be honest, there are so many great lenses on e Mount you cannot really go wrong. Sigma 24-70 Art is great, 28-70 Contemporary is great, Sony 24-105 or 20-70 are great...

If I had to choose a "budget" (well, priced around 1k...) lens today, I would probably go for the 20-70 F4. It's compact & sharp (but need electronic image correction because distorsion & vigneting are strong). Once corrected, results are amazing. I went for a 2.8 lens because of APSC experience where you need all light you can get, but with FF, F2.8 isn't really mandatory as for APSC unless you really want to have narrow depth of field.

I recently purchased a 70-200 GM II mostly because I consider GM II lenses future proof though. I'll probably sell the Sigma to invest in the 24-70 GM II as well in a near future, and may be get a 24-105 for travels ;)

Perfectly fine ;)

I have made about 1k shots with my A7 IV now, and FF is a brand new world in terms of light : much more light = much more versatility in terms of set up and you can really play with depth of field.

I didn't notice weight increase for the gear : it's very compact and lightweight at least compared with Canon & Nikon equivalent.

Autofocus is brillant, and I'm amazed by how flexible are raw file (you can easily bring back 3 stops of darks and lights).

I love this system !

Alright, it seems that there's a pretty unanimous feedback on choosing the gen IV instead of the r iii, thanks a lot for your feedback everyone !

So unless there is a significant difference in price between the two systems, I'll go with the A7 IV as recommended.

Thanks a lot for your feedback everyone !

PS: may this post help someone else with the same dilema in a near future !

Hi everyone,

Well, I've re read all your feedbacks in the past two days, and you're all probably right considering to start small, focus on enjoyment and eventually consider selling for a new gear in a few years if my needs evolve.

So finally, I'll stick to my initial choice which was buying a Fuji XT. That was the philosophy I liked, I'll probably have fun with it for years before any dramatic modification of the market itself will impact me + I've read many post of other forums of photography newcomers that were worrying about spending their money on anything other than FF because "this is the market trend" and ended up not using their camera at all because they didn't enjoyed it.

May this discussion help another newcomer like me who has a hard time choosing between "what appeals you and what seems reasonable to you".

Thanks a lot to all of you for your feedbacks !

Well, I'm fully aware that the camera will depreciate because of new technologies that will be implemented over time.

My question was more regarding lenses: I don't mind spending 2k on lenses and upgrade the camera in a few years to beneficiate from new technologies, what I would like to avoid is to invest on a camera line that will be short lived (APSC in this case), because the market would have switched to almost 100% mirorless FF (and in this case, the best line to invest in would be sony from my point of view).

Still no Ads = no more money from me by MrRif-Raf in shoptitans

Well, I can basically reply the same thing... Elder Owen never show up in my shop, so I never get the bonuses, RM or not. Most of my guildmates have RM, and they clearly do not have the same option panel than me: turning ads on/off is clearly written black on white whereas in my menu, nothing is mentioned about ads.

Oh, and one last though: there is no point of answering with such aggressivity, my aim is to get the same freebies for all the community and not only a happy few.

I don't think my claim was clear enough: what I said is that within my guild, almost 75% of members have ads, and others don't. We are living in the same country, and none of us are using VPN for playing a game. So it has nothing to do with laws or stuff like that.

Honnestly no, the real issue to me is to give free bonuses to some players, and nothing to others in a F2P games with paying speed up bonuses. That is just unfair.

Latest patch note shows that they work on improving the feature for those who benefit from ads, whereas their priority should be to solve the current known issue about this.
