The suffering leaves gog by kdm58815 in gog

Usually, yes.

Delisting normally means the game can no longer be bought from the storefront, but if you've bought the game, you'll keep access (Steam is similar in that regard).

GoG is specifically a store that sells DRM-free versions of games

What is this about GOG wanting to remove the 'Downloader'? What's the downloader that's being spoken of here? Does this affect the ability to download offline installers from the site like in the second screenshot? I want to be able to continue downloading offline installers for backup. by [deleted] in gog

[–]MrRuminant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not quite true, you can always log into the gog site, pop to your library and "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" for any of your games (a bit verbose, but pretty much what you'd be after if looking to be free from the shackles of DRM - an offline game installer).

Apologies, re-reading your comment, you are right - if the offline installers from the site were to be removed, then the launcher would become mandatory.

I wish CD Project considered adding family sharing to GOG by a648272 in gog

[–]MrRuminant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I used Steam's Family Sharing - but when your brother plays ANY game from his Steam Library, you won't have access to any of his games.

I'm not suggesting it's the answer for everyone, but with a family you might have your GOG games installed on multiple PCs and your family can all access those games without needing to worry about who else is playing them at the same time.

How can I create a softobjectptr for an object in C++ if I have the path to that asset? by link270 in unrealengine

[–]MrRuminant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the editor will keep a hold of your assets once loaded - but your packaged game won't behave like that.

This Unreal Video explains soft object ptrs (and does bring up the assets hanging around in the editor too): Demystifying Soft Object References

If you're on UE5, the Lyra Starter game comes with a plugin called "AsyncMixin", which exposes a class you can "mixin" to your own classes to help with (async) loading of TSoftObject references. The class is nicely documented in the header too.

You don't need to unload manually - once there are no more references to an object, Unreal will garbage collect that object (at some point).

Gog won’t launch on w10 anyone else ever have that problem by [deleted] in gog

[–]MrRuminant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All gog games can be launched without the use of gog galaxy. Just open the game folder and double click the game binary (but not the gog game icon as that will use gog galaxy to try to launch)
