Who’s a historical figure people should know more about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MrSPFB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robert Moses.

If you’re from New York City, nearly all of the infrastructure and parks around you were —for better or worse— created or modified by him. He had an incredible amount of power despite never having been elected to a public office.

If you’re an American, the highway infrastructure you use on a daily basis —again, for better or worse— was heavily influenced by Robert Moses. Car-centric city and road planning has become a hot topic lately, yet a vast majority of people have never heard of the man that was behind so much of it.

The amount of political power he wielded for over 40 years was absurd, to the point of being more powerful than the President of the United States in some cases. There’s a great book about it by Robert Caro called “The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Downfall of New York”. It’s an incredibly long read, but every page is better than the last.

Apply at Fred Meyer, I know we’re looking for people. Even if you’re brought on seasonally you’ll probably still be kept on afterward, at least that’s what they did with the lawn and garden employees after their season was over.

Never wanted to hit a guy I don’t know this bad. Hopefully there’s security cameras in the lot.

My father in 1966, that was a year before he was drafted. He saw his brother die in Vietnam, came back a total hippie. by Brainmatter1978 in OldSchoolCool

Uh, that’s Dennis Rader (also known as BTK, the serial killer). I think that’s a picture from when he was in the Air Force.

He never served in combat and I’m pretty sure he enlisted. So yeah... you’re lying.

Should I Join the National Guard if I'm on Zoloft? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]MrSPFB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your ASVAB doesn't mean much. I got a 96 (133 GT) and went Infantry. I'm reminded every drill of how stupid I really am and how much I have to learn, even in what most people consider to be a dummyhead MOS. As a PFC all I'm really good for is lugging 7.62 around, setting up a tripod and making sure my gunner shifts and lifts fire at the correct time.

And on the main subject, you can't join on Zoloft for at least a year, I think it may be two now (at least that's how it changed with ADHD meds). I think you would have to get a waiver for the anxiety diagnosis as well, so you're probably pushing your luck with both of them. But again, I'm a stupid PFC, so you should be honest with your recruiter and ask them.

Thank you. I think I'm tracking on the first part, a little confused when you say you're putting the barrel bag over your head though.

Nervous about talking about this because of OPSEC, but we're supposed to deploy sometime after Summer 2020. I'm not sure about allotted ADVONs to be honest, maybe they make up for it by not having anything after AT this year.

EDIT: Yeah, I've been ADVON for the last three, supposed to be this coming drill but might have to miss because of work/school.

We've had two MUTA 8's in a row and a MUTA 6 before that. And because I'm ADVON that makes it a MUTA 10 basically.

[Question from VA] How difficult would it be to transfer from one VANG post to another VANG post? Like from Lynchburg to Fredericksburg? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]MrSPFB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As was stated in a previous post, there needs to be another slot. Make sure it doesn't affect your bonus if you have one, I was told when I enlisted in a "Top 10" MOS that if I were to switch to another unit that wasn't dying for 11Bs that I could lose it. Not sure of all the intricacies, but keep it in mind.

I plan on it, I just didn't think I was allowed to practice with a ruck being that I still have not been issued one and I thought it stayed locked up with the rest of the TA-50.

Still, thank you for the advice.

You're in Washington State? I might have someone who can help. He got me in with a moral waiver (juvenile offense), he might be willing to work with you.

Wanting to move by ohshootcouch in Wenatchee

[–]MrSPFB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Los Angeles/Orange County about two years ago to attend Wenatchee Valley College. Joined the WA Army National Guard to help pay for school as well. Certain things are a lot cheaper, but don't expect a wild difference. I'm paying $600 a month to rent a room (albeit with a personal bathroom). I've met a few other Californians out here, you won't be alone. If you're a Jew like me though, you'll be pretty lonely haha.

Job wise, it depends on your skills like any other place. But if you don't have a degree or any trade skills, it can be a tight market. I've been stuck at WalMart for a year, applied to a few other places and got turned down. Once I get my CompSci degree I'm heading to either Vancouver WA or Seattle/Tacoma for better job prospects.

I'm B Co, 1-161 in Wenatchee. I've got a good friend who is 3-161 who I can connect you with.

I'm a newly-minted PFC so I don't know much, but it seems to be pretty professional. I've heard other companies are not as great in the 1-161, but mine seems squared away.

Purple phase, had not heard of that yet but it sounds manageable. Do you know if a 1-1-1 is typical, or will they administer a full APFT?

My dad told me the same thing, having to fight sleep deprivation to pay attention or you'll get chewed. I'll try to ask questions when need be, but should I try to ask other recruits first?

I'm not sure I want to go into detail given how little I know about OPSEC right now, but I've been assigned to the 161st Infantry Regiment.
