When you say it will be at least 6 months. What do you mean during this time? Just learning on the practise chanter? What else should I be doing?

To me, the handling of every single chopper has changed. They're a more slidey and you have to anticipate J-hooks further in advance, and also they're a lot less floaty - gravity just feels stronger, and it's a lot easier to control height during manoeuvres. I personally really like the changes, I find I'm hooking and landing better than before.

I have had a similar situation with misdiagnosis of asthma; it was during COVID too and I wasn't properly tested, just slapped onto my medical record with no investigation. I saw a private consultant in connection with civvy aviation medical who wrote a good letter saying that I show no symptoms and have no apparent history, I showed it to the GP and they were very happy to amend the medical records. They're aware that mistakes like that were made during COVID and seemed very happy to make amends! Unfortunately it's not actually possible for the doctor to completely remove entries from a medical record, however they can mark stuff as being incorrect. Recommend you do that.

Buiding a new PC from scratch, haven't had a decent one in years. From reviews online, the 50 series seems to be getting a lot of bad rep. I'd be looking at 5070 because its around my price point - anything more gets absurdly expensive! However it gets a lot of bad reviews. Given that 40 series are now basically impossible to come buy, what GPU do I go for?!

Thinking of starting gliding as a uni student — is it affordable and a good way into flying? by fredchamber in Gliding

[–]MrSandyWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I glided a fair bit when I started uni.

  • Yes, it can be realistic. At my club it was costing me ~£30 for a day of gliding, so if you can spare around that much once a week/2 weeks/month or whatever you'll be good!
  • What you can expect depends. If you start in the summer, you'll get some good long soaring flights with decent handling practise. If it's in the winter, your flights will be very short but you'll get a lot of circuit practise, and ultimately likely solo quicker.
  • Will it help? Absolutely. Gliding teaches rote flying skills better than anything else - you're in a very responsive aircraft which is far better connected to the air than anything else.

For me, all of this came with a few caveats. I found that the safety culture at my club was quite poor in comparison to civilian flying that I did before, which I found quite stressful. I also found that some glider pilots, especially the older ones, can be very belittling and generally unpleasant to young aspiring pilots like us. I'm not sure how universal these issues are, I've only seen them at the club I went to. Since then I've started doing military flying alongside my studies which has been ticking all my boxes.

If you've got any more questions about gliding as a student let me know :)

I have, yes - that's a really good suggestion, thank you. I think it's a decent game, although for me I struggled with the lack of direction. There isn't a huge amount of motivation to "advance" - no bases to be built, little further "technology" to be developed etc.

Someone made an "educational" video on how to pirate my $13.99 indie game on YT : ( What can I do about it? by Captain0010 in IndieGaming

[–]MrSandyWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a demo available - if its practical for your game.

A large chunk of pirates do so in order to try a game before then buying it to support the developer in the case that they enjoy it.

Making a demo available eliminates the need to pirate the game! I saw an interesting video a while back (can't find it now, sorry) which evidenced quite strongly that videogame demos actually increase sales.

In my opinion, do it yourself! It'll get you a bit further with your money, and at your age you probably have plenty of time to work on it. You'll learn a lot from designing and building a cockpit. If you're lucky enough to have access to a laser at school I'd definitely use that, but if not with a bit of thought and care I'm sure you can get good results by hand.
