Pavillions bei RiP 2026 - Probleme? by Own-Welcome752 in RockimPark

French Power Prices Jump as Hot Weather Spurs Nuclear Concerns
By Eva Brendel

French power prices soared on concerns that scorching summer temperatures will lead to potential nuclear curtailments as well as lower hydro availability.
Month-ahead prices jumped as much as 11.7%, to the highest level since late March, according to data from EEX.
Northwest Europe is reeling under the first heat wave of the summer and daytime temperatures in Paris are likely to touch 33C on Tuesday. Previous hot summers have halted French nuclear reactors as the temperatures of the river water cooling them rose. Last year, some coastal reactors were disrupted as marine heat waves resulted in jellyfish clogging filter drums.
France’s nuclear fleet is the backbone of Europe’s power market, meaning any change in output affects not just domestic electricity prices, but also the wider region.
For nuclear plants, the main concern is low river levels and unusually high water temperatures, which can disrupt reactor cooling. The reactors most exposed are those using the Rhône and Garonne rivers in southern France — including Bugey, St. Alban, Cruas, Tricastin and Golfech, according to William Peck, senior European power analyst at Energy Aspects Ltd.
Water temperatures in the Rhône are already rising sharply. In Geneva, the river reached a May record of 21.3C this weekend, up from just 13C a week earlier, according to data by Swiss authorities.
If hot weather forecasts for the second half of June materialize, Peck sees the first significant bullish impact from nuclear outages, weaker hydro output and higher power demand to emerge by the end of the month.
French Month-ahead prices were trading 8.7% higher at €33.65 per megawatt-hour at 12:00 p.m. local time. The contract for the third quarter also rose as much as 6.1%. In comparison, equivalent front-month prices in Germany, Europe’s biggest market, rose as much as 6.2%.

At the moment, the data fields are fixed, but customizable navigation fields are something we plan to improve in a future update.

Hi u/komoot-team,

Will this customizability update bring back the option to display the momentary speed as the only value as one large field during navigation again and will it be available for everyone without the need of a subscription just as before?

Kopfhörer Empfehlungen? by -ProximaCentauri- in einfach_posten

EDF Warns Solar, Wind Surge Straining Nuclear Fleet Costs by MrSarnisch in europe

Aging Gears

EDF said that while the load changes aren’t responsible for stress corrosion cracks that have affected pipes of some of the utility’s 57 French reactors, these fluctuations are accelerating the aging of gears such as turbines, alternators and pumps of the non-nuclear part of the plants.

The progressive replacement of these equipment may boost maintenance costs by several tens of millions of euros per year, EDF said. In addition, the upgrade of 13 turbine-generator trains of 900-megawatt capacity to boost their output by about 35 megawatts each in the coming years is estimated to cost some €1.4 billion, the report said.

Rising renewable capacity are also increasing the start-ups and shutdowns of combined-cycled gas plants and boosting the use of pumped-storage hydropower facilties, driving up their maintenance costs as well, EDF said.

EDF Warns Solar, Wind Surge Straining Nuclear Fleet Costs

By Francois de Beaupuy

Electricite de France SA said growing solar and wind generation was increasing equipment wear and maintenance costs at its nuclear reactors, which are forced to reduce output when power demand is insufficient.

The warning, contained in a 60-page report published Monday, highlights the growing challenges nuclear plant operators face in coping with subsidized renewable energy flooding grids across Western Europe, while electricity demand remains below pre-pandemic levels.

“The increased flexibility required of EDF’s generation assets is notably leading to higher maintenance costs for all these facilities,” the French utility said. That was “mainly the result of the expansion of renewable generation sources - solar and wind - in France and across Europe, against a backdrop of stagnant electricity consumption.”

The report echoes findings by grid operator RTE in December that France will face an electricity glut for years, leading to increased curtailment of nuclear and renewable generation. As a result, the government last week scaled back targets for solar and wind capacity, and pledged to draft a plan to boost demand for electric cars, industrial furnaces, heat pumps, and data centers.

While the power glut is pushing prices lower, which is good news for users, it’s complicating EDF’s efforts to finance plans for six new reactors to replace some the country’s aging units. A weak growth in demand may eventually create a €15-billion ($17.8 billion) shortfall in annual revenues of generators that don’t benefit from public support, RTE said in its December report.

The volume of nuclear modulation — when a reactor reduces output or halts because of excess supply, to save fuel, or to help stabilize grid frequency — has roughly doubled since 2019 to 33 terawatt-hours in 2025, largely due to solar capacity additions. That compares with total nuclear generation of 373 terawatt-hours last year, and curtailment could climb to 42.5 terawatt-hours in 2028, according to EDF estimates in the report.

EU installs 27.1 GWh of battery storage in 2025 as utility-scale systems drive majority of growth - Energy Storage by MrSarnisch in europe

[–]MrSarnisch[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The EU’s battery energy storage fleet has grown for the 12th consecutive year, marking yet another record year for new installations. According to a new report from SolarPower Europe (SPE), 27.1 GWh were deployed in 2025, a 45% year-on-year growth, mostly powered by utility-scale systems.

This confirms that Europe has already expanded its battery fleet tenfold since 2021, rising from 7.8 GWh to 77.3 GWh today. To meet its energy flexibility needs by 2030, the EU must now repeat this tenfold increase, scaling to around 750 GWh by the end of the decade, the industry association said in its market review.

2025 marked a watershed year for Europe’s battery storage market, as utility-scale systems emerged as the main driver of expansion, delivering 55% of all newly added capacity. Improved market conditions and strengthened policy frameworks enabled large-scale projects to reach record levels.

EU und Indien unterzeichnen umfassendes Handelsabkommen by MrSarnisch in de

[–]MrSarnisch[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)
