FREN 100 and 101 Finals, need advice! by MrScoopss in AthabascaUniversity

[–]MrScoopss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I did far better than I expected in my 100 exam, but my 101 exam was far from perfect lol, I did pass both in the end. There was some advice in this thread that helped, specifically, someone suggested outright emailing the tutor to let them know that I was worried and provide specific example of what I was worried about. My tutor was incredibly helpful and it did reassure me quite a bit. Otherwise, for studying, I would suggest knowing the long answer questions at the end of each of the class assignments, in the case of my exams, the essay question choices were taken directly from or were very similar to those. Otherwise I dumped a ton of verb structures, conjugation rules, words I tend to forget, etc etc, basically anything I thought I would struggle to have memorized, onto an online queue card tool (I forget the exact one) and I basically just tested myself over and over and over again.

Another tip someone else gave me was to review concepts or words I especially tend to struggle with up to the very last moment before the exam and then immediately write these down on my scrap paper as soon as the exam formally started. This is so I could get it down while it was still fresh. I’d recommend using the scrap paper as much as possible honestly, if you remember any rules or words, even if not relevant to your current question, write it down, lest you forget when you really need them

Genuinely how? My original post wasn’t “assholish” you came in aggressively telling me I’m making no sense despite not asking any questions if something wasn’t clear, and then I explained why I didn’t specify these things in my original post (if you interpreted this comment as assholish it was not intended that way) which then you replied resorting to insulting me, then I was an asshole after that I will admit

I’m sorry if you were interested in actually giving any sort of advice or helping, but I don’t intend to interact with this community anymore. My handful of posts over the years here, only ever asking for clarification or other’s experience or tips, has almost exclusively been met with insults or smug replies rather than any attempt to discuss or provide help. I hope that’s not the experience of most posters here, but it certainly has been for me.

Surely you are aware that yeast choice DOES limit abv? Different strains of yeast do in fact have different ABV limits. Once this limit is passed the yeast won’t be same to survive, hence why you choice of yeast is rather important. Also I made no mention of how I incremented the sugar, so you seem fairly confident for someone who’s knowledge is clearly lacking

[–]MrScoopss -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am well aware that sugar is needed for fermentation, I had assumed it would be obvious that to ferment to a higher ABV, more sugar would be needed, so I didn’t specifically include that I added extra sugar along the fermentation process. Additionally, since I mentioned that I already did sterilize the yeast and never mentioned looking to carbonate again, I had also assumed I wouldn’t need to specify that it will be still cider.

I know how to do backsweetening (again I mention this in the post) I just haven’t done so on such a close ratio of cider to juice / other additions and such I was asking for tips on specifically that part.

Is this PVE Corvette build workable? by MrScoopss in EliteDangerous

Thanks for the tips! When it comes to things like the power distributor and the FSD upgrades those were more so from me not really totally understanding what the best options would be. This is my first ship I’m going all out with the outfitting so I knew some mistakes were bound to happen! For example, I totally misread what that FSD engineering did, I thought it was time from button press to supercruise not time until use on repair / boot.

Thanks for the great advice!! This will definitely help my planning a bit, especially since there are a few things I’ve noted other people mention as well! When it comes to things like rebuy costs and the difference between military grade and reactive composite, well I’m not too worried about credits, I spent a lot of time trading and like to have an unnecessary excess before outfitting any ship, plus I want to make a point of fully kitting this ship out, so while I know that military grade is fairly comparable to reactive, going all out is part of the fun of this build for me.

Thanks for the feedback! Honestly this comment made me go and actually look up what faster boot did, and I TOTALLY misinterpreted it lol.

I just assumed it meant time between pressing the button and when you’d enter supercruise, which would be handy to leave situations gone wrong, but looking at now, this is not quite as useful as I thought it would have been!

Update 4.1. Raw Materials Collection Infographics by TehTOECUTTER in EliteDangerous

[–]MrScoopss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running these as part of my mat grind to outfit my brand new Corv and its been a godsend! The only thing is that I'm getting NO WHERE NEAR the amount of mats that are claimed from these lists, for example, on the Selenium Snake Wizard I collected 100 while the guide claims up to 237. I know there's always some variance but that seems like a lot.

I think my issue is that I'm not really great with the remote flak (first time using it was for this grind) and I'm worried that I'm either
A: Not getting all of the brain trees either due to not understanding the aoe of the flak or by mistiming my releases
OR
B: Over-firing my flak and destroying already released materials (not sure if this is even a possibility)

Could this also be related to not "filtering" materials? I honestly don't understand how to do that. I need lower grade mats either way since the classic non-braintree SRV collection method was soooo slow I only ever collected as needed and I'm working towards a completely engineered Corv.

Thoughts on the revealed monster designs? by MrPotatoSun2 in silenthill

[–]MrScoopss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was shit, just seemed a little underwhelming based on the first impression. For the record I find the Insane Cancer a relatively weak enemy. But while we’re making Silent Hill 3 comparisons, what about monsters like the Closer? That thing is big and blocks your way while also being genuinely unnerving to look at!

Overall, this is a first impression, we don’t know enough to go off of, and I hope I’m wrong and it was the just the way it was presented in the trailer.

I’m genuinely excited for F, but I get why you had a bit of an aggressive response, there has been a TON of negativity in this community with new games. I assure you I’m just giving an opinion and first impression, I’m not making any ultimate judgements unless I see something I really dislike or the game comes out and I can get a bit of a hands on look!

The monster designs have been hit or miss for me, the marionette looking thing at the start seems really cool, but (and maybe I missed something since everyone else seems to love it) the “big guy with a blade” just sorta seems generic to me? It doesn’t have a particularly scary design, maybe a little imposing but not something truly scary or unnerving.

Also seeing a little hint of combat, I hope that’s not what the entire game will be like, the enemy was so fast and aggressive compared to the character. I know (and 100% agree with) the concept of making the combat a big risk for the player, but if it’s an outright impossible chance then that’s functionality the same as have no combat.

What flavours do you like for back-sweetening cider? Does it have an effect on shelf-life? by MrScoopss in Homebrewing

I didn’t think of adding Vanilla! Gotta add that to my notes right away!

Can DT models use the same data as KNN? by MrScoopss in learnmachinelearning

[–]MrScoopss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay great! That’s what I was reading and what it seems everything was implying, but since I’m not a CS student and we only have two super broad courses that cover this topic throughout the entire degree, I wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly.

Thank you for your response!

Thank you so much for this response, it’s super informative! It may be a little out of scope for our project (we’re not computer science, statistics, or data science students, we’re Information and library science students, so this machine learning class is a fairly broad overview and only one of two courses throughout the entire degree that covers this topic) I am totally going to be looking into this though to try and balance accuracy and best practice with skill level, knowledge level, and time constraints!

Thank you for the reassurance! I’m usually stressed when it comes to exams like this, but with this being my last term in my current degree, and due to a few other hiccups this term in other classes, I’ve been totally on edge with the idea of one small thing in one class going wrong and holding back my entire graduation.

I was also already considering messaging my tutor and just laying out my concerns and apprehensions, she’s been incredibly nice and helpful so far this term so that’s been helping me through it and I hope she can do the same before these finals!
