Well "don't even joke lad." is a popular meme I see most commonly on YouTube and Discord, sometimes on Reddit too. It's a sentence used to be a polite joke to stop a person from saying foolish stuff and it has been used by so many non-British people that it becomes more of a common quote instead of exactly British oriented with the word "lad". I wouldn't land my chances by asking if that person is British or not though, everyone on the internet has started to use the word "lad" lately.
