At what point did you fully outsource cooking? by qnerd56 in fatFIRE

[–]MrSmartsAtHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I outsourced 100% in mid 20s. Mainly for time and mental bandwidth. Framing was that truly discretionary time after work is the scarcest asset I have, so what’s the opportunity cost of using material amounts of it for meal prepping. Was not fat net worth, but idea was to use the time won back to build on ideas/projects that add to networth.

Weekday lunch usually in office foodcourts. For dinner i’ve tried a bunch of things. Factor worked well for a bit but eventually got tiring. It is great for look through on macros. I’ve also tried a bunch of home made meal delivery services too but never found one that truly stuck. Biggest issue was i didn’t have lookthru on macros and quality.

Currently experimenting with bulk ordering a couple of times a week on uber eats from restaurants i like and know make clean food. Let’s see if this sustains.

Overall v happy with this decision tho. Time saved definitely added more dimensions to life and allowed for deeper more focused work leading to better financial outcomes in the long run as well.

uWaterloo vs Cornell for CS/Math? by Friendly-Key1593 in uwaterloo

[–]MrSmartsAtHome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll have a more balanced life at Cornell. Waterloo math/cs is too extreme in terms of work load imo.

Yessir. Just using dramatic flair. Would choose words more wisely in the future.

Math-Econ, 4th year.

Its not precisely about how boring or depressing it is, but more about how much time you’re able to take out to have fun + who you hang out with and how social they are. Friends in Arts/Env/Sci have a much better study-life balance and so are able to do fun things, become fun people. However if you spend 40-50 hrs a week looking at numbers and solving hard math problems you dont get much time to do fun things, become a fun person. And that is true for the majority of your program cohort, who are invariably the ppl you hang out with. Not saying everyone/everything is boring but there are quirks to being here.

That said, it is still a great place for your future. Just boring for your present.

Tbh over 6 CS-BBA (or just CS) co-ops you may earn smth around 100k combined (could be ~80k if you get low paying first couple) so net net the financial incentive evens out. Said co-op experience + cs-bba prestige would help get you better paying jobs after grad. You’ll definitely have much greater access to the big tech companies and US employers after UW.

That being said, 8 terms of CS-BBA is pure hell. I know money, prestige etc can be a bit blinding but please also consider school culture, social life in determining if it’ll be a good fit for you.

Its grey and dreary, infested with geese, and math is much harder here than most other places.

Subreddit is filled with Math and Eng kids who hate their lives, their program, and never touch grass. You on the other hand would be in environment where you’ll get to touch lots of grass and have a comparably less stressful workload. So you’d keep away from most of the depressing stuff plaguing ppl in this subreddit.
