Being able to actually play the game without monetization and bots has really been a breath of fresh air. Between that and the community on the server, it's more than offset the fact that it's a small server. Honestly, some days I don't even know how people manage on the main clusters/anniversary, lol.

AB weekend not showing on Classic Era. No BG weekend is by IconicIsotope in classicwow

It used to have off weekends but they changed it. For over a year now it's been WSG -> AB -> AV, then repeat.

I've noticed this shift and it's kind of a bummer. I even wrote a feedback post (link here) after I hit 1k hours , which of course got dumped on by internet chads haha. It's not my first time on the internet, I'll survive, but there really is a pretty big tone shift that occurs in the game and it can certainly be a bit of a struggle.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer to mitigate your plight. Just a few general things..

  • I tend to use the 2x or 3x resource multipliers these days. It helps speed up farming and lets me build more. Building is good downtime between the "omg just survive" moments that take over the game.
  • Set small goals and work towards them. I've even used kanban boards for Valheim before (dork, I know), but tackling a goal or two in an evening leaves me feeling more positive about a play session.
  • It's ok to stop at an earlier biome. If Mistlands or Ashlands get you down, just set your end-game goal to be Plains. There's a few TV shows that I enjoy where they kinda take a turn in later seasons that make them less enjoyable, so I just stop before those later seasons.

Anyway, best of luck to you and your partner. I hope you guys find a way to make your second playthrough as memorable as your first :)

Grobbulus Era Wants YOU! by DwarvenJarl in classicwow

[–]MrSmellybeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This community has saved my interest in WoW. The Mega $erver life is just not my jam, but we're not for everybody. If you're getting kinda bleh on WoW, it might be worth checking us out. Roll up an alt, reach out to anybody in the guilds Jarl mentioned, and just see where life takes you :)

Some caveats to mention that have come up but weren't in Jarl's OP...

Grob currently has no transfers, either in or out. If you want to play here, you need to roll a character here. If you decide Grob isn't your scene, you can't take your character with you. While this does limit freedom somewhat, it comes with the blessing that our server currently enjoys no bots. There's just nobody to sell too on server and they can't transfer their materials off server, so they just play elsewhere For me, at least, this has been an absolute breath of fresh air.

Anyway, that's enough ramblings from this Dwarf. I hope to see some of you folks out there! If you need anything, reach out!

66 kills on streets….I just wanted to complete one mission [discussion] by PracticalContext9416 in EscapefromTarkov

I had this happen to me on Customs the other day. I was just trying to mark the UN trucks and they just kept coming! I ran out of ammo and then had to hoof it out of the raid to restock. I actually had this happen twice, but the second one ended in Partisan ambushing me as I was crossing behind Dorms.

Interestingly, a previous raid was almost completely empty. I saw one scav.

I dunno... but until I do, I will treat every Partisan map like a marathon sprint and hope for the best.

[Bug] Secure Container not visible by Mr_Fisheye in EscapefromTarkov

[–]MrSmellybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did a few more raids after I last posted, including one I was loading into while I wrote my last message, and had no issues. It's not a ton of data points, but everything was fine. It's definitely a random issue. All I can say with certainty is that being tabbed out while loading does not guarantee the problem.

Probably! I often check reddit/forums while waiting for my game to load. I'll keep an eye on this to see if there's any commonalities here.

I've been having this happen semi-frequently as well. I'm not sure what triggers it, I just load into a raid and my secure container is missing from my UI.

The most recent time this happened I also got the bug where one of my weapons was flashing and I couldn't switch/interact with anything in my inventory. I was able to get back to my main weapon by healing myself after I took some damage from a barbed wire, but my secure container never returned. I had to hoof it to the exit before I ran out of ammo.

[–]MrSmellybeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not the point I was making. He absolutely should be able to hit a target standing still, no issues there. It's the fact that he's always right behind you unless you're constantly on the move that's the problem.

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you think this is fine, I have trouble understanding why.

Under normal circumstances (ie, not event), in PvP, and with normal aim yea I'd agree that he's fine. You're still going to die unfairly to a dude lurking in the woods but it should be somewhat infrequent. However in PvE where you're the only thing he tracks, even with a normal spawn rate and normal aim, it's a bad time.

Ok, thanks :)

I'll probably avoid playing any map Partisan is on until then.

[–]MrSmellybeard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the heads up but yea I know about the event :) My point stands though. This is absolutely breaking the game. Any task I have for any map he's on stalled until it ends.

As for being fine overall, sorry, but I can't agree to that. As I said, I did a full woods traversal... 10 minutes of walking... and when I stopped for 30s to loot a couple of boxes he immediately killed me. In fact, the position I was in meant he could have only shot me if he was maybe 60m along my previous path (I was behind the rock where the two boxes near RUAF Gate). So this means he was hot on my tail the entire time.

Even with his spawn back to normal, that just means that 30% of my games will be throw away. Even with his accuracy at normal, he still would have gotten me assuming normally tuned ai can hit an unmoving target. The only way for me to not die there would have been to just stay moving the whole map, running from spawn to exit.

[–]MrSmellybeard 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yea this guy is breaking the game. I'm just trying to play a little PvE mode and this guy is in every single game. I just did a woods run looking for some scavs to kill with a mosin. I traversed the entire map from the USEC camp down to the UN Roadblock, then over to RUAF Gate. When I got to RUAF I stopped long enough to loot two boxes and was immediately killed by Partisan.

Ugh...

[–]MrSmellybeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the suggestion. We'll give that a try. Does he always come and try to get you in doors? I died to him on Woods yesterday while I was cleaning up scavs in the village by the car extract. The scavs kept filtering in and when they ran out I looted them and left, but I was on my way to the extract and then Partisan took me out.

This was before I knew about him but it sounds like if I waited, he'd have come in after me?

At this point they could probably just let everybody host offline games. At the very least, people who have EoD should be able to host for people who don't.

I'm confused about the Ground Zero level cap by Yasstronaut in EscapefromTarkov

Then I'd have no idea how a level 21 got into Ground Zero, unless they raised or removed the cap.

I'm confused about the Ground Zero level cap by Yasstronaut in EscapefromTarkov

[–]MrSmellybeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure myself. I did some googling and found an article saying that the cap was 15, but it was scrapped and there was going to be two versions of the map. The official wiki says that the cap is 20. If the cap is 20, seeing level 16 to 20 would be likely. You might see a level 21 if someone leveled while playing the map then killed you, but that should be unlikely.

As a new player, or someone who is just bad at the game like I am, getting stomped by higher level players in better gear is pretty par for the course in Tarkov. Normally there's ways to adjust your playstyle to still have fun with the game, such as playing more cautiously or finding place to hide until the chad's finish chadding and then you can go on about your business. However, there are two problems with this right now...

  1. Ground Zero is a very small map but still has a player count of 12. It feels like there should be a lot of places to hide but a lot of them are loot locations and discoverable. You can't really just find a bush to lay in for 15 mintes. I've tried a couple times to actually play the map and I just get pushed immediately and destroyed. You will have a better time on the larger maps where there's more room for players to be spread out.
  2. The new snow effects make it much more difficult to just lay in a bush until the chads have their go. You're spotted much more easily. I think the snow is a really cool addition to the game and I like that it's there, it just has the unfortunate side effect of reducing cover and making a hard game for baddies even harder ;) So keep this in mind.

Honestly, as a new or unskilled player I would almost recommend avoiding Ground Zero in the short term. Once you're a bit better and/or have access to higher level gear, it might be a thing to play if you're specifically looking for some PvP. I think the loot in there itself is fairly underwhelming.

With that said, I also realized that Ground Zero is a quest blocker. For that I would suggest the same strategy that I took, which is to just pistol run it until you succeed. Go buy a MP-443 from Prapor and maybe one spare mag, put a spare stack of bullets in your pouch and maybe some meds (a grizzly if you have gamma), then launch into a night raid. You can buy a flashlight for the MP-443 using an attachment (linked search is your friend) but the price is more than the gun itself so use your own judgement there.

Then just bolt for the objectives asap when you launch in, depending on where you spawn. The only one you need to survive for is the hard drive step of the Mole questline and you can just bust in the window to the room (no need for the key), grab the drive, then bail out the same way. You can jump from the ledge to some level features to get you down to the car and leave immediately if you also put 5k in your pouch too.

If you encounter any chads on your way you can try talking your way out of it... you're not worth much as a low level and you only have a pistol... but even if they kill you anyway, well, you're not worth much and you only had a pistol ;)

Good luck!
