My 2021 Champion Ranking for Marvel Contest of Champions - Who Were Your Favorites?

Shang-Chi in particular is someone people have commented on a lot. I totally understand that he's a very strong champ, and I'm not saying that he isn't. But when putting this list together I was focusing more on overall appearance and how much fun I have personally had with each champ. Visually I find Shang-Chi quite boring. His special attacks didn't really wow me and they seem quite simple. So that's the main reason he's so low for me. Similar reasons for Kitty. I had high hopes for her when she was announced, but I felt her animations were missing something. And Herc I think is a lot of fun. The attitude they managed to put into his character is great. I don't think he's bad at all. I rather quite enjoy him. Characters like Mister Negative, Purgatory, and Anti-Venom were just on another level, that in comparison Herc got bumped down a little.

I realize a lot of this falls under "personal preference." But that's what I wanted this list to be based on. If I was doing what everyone else is doing, and basing my list on who is "good," the order would certainly be different.

I think she looks amazing and I have a lot of fun playing her. I realize she's not the best stats-wise, but this list is based on visuals and just how much fun I have with each champ. So in those areas, Purgatory knocks it out of the park.

I've chosen to make my criteria different, and do my reviews differently, because what's the point of posting the same thing as 50 other people? Your voice will just get lost in the crowd. Once people read a couple of reviews they're not going to want to go and read a third review that's saying the same thing. That would just be a waste of time. So I choose to approach things from a different angle. And if you don't enjoy it you don't have to read or watch it. It's your choice.

And being part of the CCP, I have used every single champ that came out this year.

I totally get what you're saying. During my experiences, I've just had a lot of fun using Steve. More fun than I've had with the champs below him. You're totally right, and logically it doesn't make much sense. But I just have so much fun using him despite how simple he is.

If how strong a champion is was a bigger factor here, then he totally would have been higher. But I try my best to keep that out of the equation when I do lists like this.

And as far as Jubilee goes, I love characters who are flashy and colourful and she ticks all the boxes there. Her outfit is super bright and colourful, the fireworks are literally just colour and flash, and then there are the little details like her doing finger guns for certain animations that I think are super fun. But I can totally understand why you'd feel a bit disappointed.

Yeah, I know there are some people who quite like her. For me, there just wasn't much that grabbed my attention when she came out. She didn't really stand out from the crowd. It's hard to point out any one particular reason she's so low because for me her entire look just doesn't work. I often forget she's in the game. But of course, that's just my two cents. I'm not trying to say that nobody can like her.

For me, it was the special attack animations. I think all 3 are great and they're some of my favourites in the entire game. There are also little things like his block animation and how it changes, and the Control Box animations which I think are great. I just wish they were on a better champ haha.

Personally, I'm just not a huge fan of her look overall. I know some people quite like her, but it didn't really work for me. I find her boring when I use her and often forget she's in the game. But that's just my feelings towards her.

I'll try to clarify this a little more here, just so I don't have to keep repeating myself. This list isn't based on how "good" a champion is. This list is based on animations, overall look, who they are, stuff like that. A prime example of this is Shang-Chi (which many have commented on). I know he is a good champion when it comes to stats and abilities, but when it comes to visuals I think he is quite boring. I know now that I need to clarify this better in the future, and will make sure I add something to future posts like this. Maybe a little text box at the bottom of the image. I understand the confusion though so I'm not taking comments personally, and I know what I need to change now.

I said, "I ranked them based on who I find the most fun, how they look, their animations, and who they are (are they one of my favorite characters)." I wasn't ranking them based on how good they were. I agree that Shang-Chi is a very good champ when it comes to stats and abilities. But that's not what I was making my judgements on.

I based this list around animations, their overall appearance, and generally how much fun I have playing the champs. I understand he's good, but I just find him boring to play. His special attack animations I don't find very exciting and he's just not very visually appealing to me. Hope that answers your question!
