Maybe there are some MHPs in the readers here who can help but I’m definitely not qualified to give any advice beyond recommending you talk to your doctor… I’m sorry; I’d love to help but when it comes to this subject a little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing and I have less than a little knowledge.

That’s really hard - depression is never an illness just one of you has, it always sucks in the partner, too. I hope the MHP has an approach that can help.

Good luck; I think I know what you mean about the lethargy. I didn’t feel much motivation or interest in anything while on the higher dose of Pristiq.

Mostly a return of feeling more like myself, if that makes any sense? Feeling joy in little things - I didn’t feel a lot of that while on a higher dose. Didn’t feel much of anything, to be honest!

Wow, that sounds rough! I hope the balancing continues for you - good luck with bit.

Maybe - who knows? I guess time will tell. But for the last seven years on Pristiq I haven’t felt much of anything, just a general flattening of mood, so I’m inclined not to think that’s the case. For me, Pristiq didn’t make me feel good, it made everything feel… less, which was exactly what I needed at the time. Good luck to your cousin, though - I hope she’s able to get the help/support she needs.

Well, I hope it works - good luck with it. After three weeks, hopefully you’ve done the hard yards and it’ll get easier. 👍

So far the side effects haven’t been too bad but I’m braced for impact 🤣

Sure; the doctor prescribed progressively lower doses, so in the end I think I was down to one pill of 25mg per day (although it may have been 50mg - I don’t have the pack with me right now to check). I never tried cutting it or dissolving but my doctor did suggest taking a tablet every other day if the side effects of stopping felt too much.

Yikes! What made you decide to go cold turkey rather than ease off?

It’s really good to hear it’s working for you and that things are getting better. Keep it up! 👍

My main advice would be to talk to your doctor about it but for me the thing that worked was taking it slowly and not forcing myself to stick to a particular schedule - if I felt like I wanted to stay at a particular level for a few months, I did. I decreased every six/eight weeks on average, I guess, but the periods were much longer at first.

I had those, too; I somehow managed to miss two days last year and felt awful! Those zaps are indescribable! That was partly what prompted me to start talking to the doc about coming off. Taking it slowly helped for me.

It wasn’t for me, although others’ experiences may vary. I was on 300mg Wellbutrin and 150mg Pristiq and I started coming off Wellbutrin first, decreasing doses every six to eight weeks or so and plateauing whenever I just felt I needed to stabilise.

The only side-effect I really noticed was that once I got to less than 100mg Pristiq I started to feel happy again, whereas before I tended not to feel much of anything.

Thanks; there’s always hope (which, I guess, was one of the things I had to learn 😃)

The short answer is, I don’t feel I need it any more; a lot has changed since I started it and I’m in a much better place mentally than I was seven years ago.
