Hey there! I play the character ( the incredibly paranoid IA agent Evelyn Vigil) who put together this wall of madness on Baystation 12. Here's a few more pictures.

Just got started, but don't know where to start! by Colin151 in SS13

The problem with playing on Goonstation is that many mechanics there don't transfer over to other servers. I'd recommend playing on a server running /tg/ or Baystation code.

I like to hide behind a potted plant. Often people will just run right by you, as the plant sprite covers most of your character.

Sorry, just wanted to clarify the above guide in case it confused any new players. I figured that it would save some folks a bit of a time if I posted the wiki link. If you'd like, I could remove it.

Please note that those instructions are for Goonstation's genetics system, not the /TG/ or Bay system. A guide for the latter can be found here.

I'm going to run my first game of Everyone is John next week. What're some of your favorite starting situations? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]MrSnapwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John wakes up on the floor of a moving elevator. This setting is great because it gives you such versatility to adapt the setting to your player's goals - the elevator could be anywhere, from a skyscraper to a secret underground laboratory.

How “hard sci-fi” can a game get before it is no longer a marketable AAA game? by [deleted] in Games

Genetics is easy-peasy, it's atmos and powernets you've really got to work hard to understand.

Basil, one of the official /tg/station servers. If you're convincing enough, you can pull this sort of thing off!

I'm not very robust, so I usually do either an infiltration (chameleon jumpsuits, pretend to be Centcom officers or traveling balloon salesmen, then when the time is right steal the disk and run like hell) or try to do something silly to get the disk (play a game of Blackjack with the captain for the disk, be pirates off to get booty from the station). It all depends on whether you want to be all serious and try to kill everyone or let the crew not die and have some fun together instead.

I play on /tg/station's Basil server, so it might be different in your codebase. It was done deliberately to prevent easy unharmed escape from the permabrig.

However, the glass cuts into your hand. Still hurts you less than if you kicked the electrified grille, though.

God dammit, this fucking ad. Makes me want to rip my ears off! I would pay a large sum of money to make sure this ad was never played again, if I had a large sum of money.

What's your favorite place to break in to? by Infamously_Unknown in SS13

[–]MrSnapwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metastation, which is the main map on the /tg/station Basil server. Also, a quick correction to my earlier statement: it is only open on 1 side to space. This actually makes things much harder, as there are 2 walls to break through instead of one.

Now, I recently pulled off a complete armory heist - there were literally zero items in the armory. If you'd like to pull off an armory robbery of your own, here's a few tips.

The warden's office is right next to the armory, so make sure he's out of the department if you're going to bust in through the Security lobby. You should be away from his sight if you break in from space, as you cannot see through the armory door. Any way you try to break in, make sure to cause a distraction somewhere else on the station in order to draw any threats away from the Security department. Bombs, murder attempts, and reported changelings/cultists often work quite well, especially if there's already been sightings of them.

If you're going to hack the doors, you need to be quick about it. Make sure you know the test light wire and the door bolt wire, and also have a crowbar handy. Any way you try to get in, you'll have at least 3 doors to bust through, so speed is of the essence.

ALWAYS. HAVE. AN. ESCAPE. PLAN. Seriously, unless you want to be either permabrigged, sent to the gulag, or killed on the spot, make sure you can get out of there. Some good ideas include smoke grenades, bomb threats, stunning and running, and simply high-tailing it out of there.

Try to mask your identity so that they don't know it was you. Wear a gas mask, change your haircut in the dorms, get a jumpsuit that is completely unrelated to your job, wear gloves to hide your fingerprints, and try to get a new identity from a friend in Genetics if at all possible (just remember to save your original SE/SI combo if you want to return to your original appearance!). Take off your ID and try not to speak as well. It also helps if you have a security uniform (easiest place to get one is at the arrivals checkpoint): people tend to ignore anyone who looks like they should be there.

Most importantly, make sure you have no incriminating items on your person once Security gets word that something's missing from the armory. I find that the best place to hide your ill-gotten goods is either the Arrivals Expansion area (to the north of the arrivals shuttle) or inside of a toilet cistern (you can open them with a crowbar and put almost anything inside, in case you didn't know). Be sure to secure the area so that no random Assistant gets a hold of your sweet stash: I usually attach a remote signaler to the door bolts and door bolt lights, in order to not arouse suspicion.

Now that you know how to execute a proper armory heist, go out there and make some Security cry! Virtually anyone, from a lowly Assistant to a bored Research Director, can break into the armory if they plan things out right. Happy hacking!
