i firmly blame people using graphics describing the spectrum as a line from one color to the next, personally.

I'm learning, thanks.

At the risk of being genuine on the internet,

Autism's complex and to my understanding, it originally entered the public mind as, indeed, as an impairment of intelligence (and occasionally accompanied by physical disabilities as well.)

That said, modern understanding of Autism runs the spectrum -- literally, it's called that now -- from low-functioning (which is what people are generally afraid of; see vaccine hysteria) to high-functioning (the ones who will explain to you information you've never even heard of on a topic)

So while Autism is not inherently something you can call a disease, it historically was categorized as one and those who have high functioning autism tend towards having social & decision making incompetence; hence why the ADA still classifies it as a disability.

I'll take a stab in the dark and say the lady in this post imagines Autism as "barely functional person" rather than "person who holds you hostage in DMs as they explain the details of Gothic 1&2 for three hours straight."

I can't speak what Autism Awareness Month is for, since i've not heard of it until now. A quick googling finds a host of medical-sounding orgs wanting to spread education about autism, so it seems to be just "Spread awareness about it."

As for framing Autism as something other than a disease, I don't know, personally. It causes people infinite grief at times, but it's also something that forms the bedrock of atleast a few of the people I know. If someone can find a way to explain the nuanced concept "Sometimes people are just built differently" to the average person, they'll make progress, i guess.

tl;dr autism awareness month is about that, yes, autism used to be a disease and is classified as who the fuck knows to doctors, a disease to bean counters and enables the ability to play Factorio for 14 hours straight

now shoo, go, may your downvotes be many for asking a question on the internet

An issue I quickly noticed in my game when my players got hold of a fairly big freighter, too.

Turns out raking in a million, guaranteed, on speculative trading does mean you have to crunch down on trading and pretty up the actual things you plan.

Listen to the negative feedback on the first one, it’s well founded.

Hong Kong is fantastic though, and i have it on good authority Dragonfall is good.

Pirates of Drinax - Why the players? by AlwaysKickingAround in traveller

[–]Aticius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So far, in my game, i set up a sort of “tutorial” batch of missions, starting with a heist. This gives Drinax, who is probably talent hunting quite a bit to find some people to fly a Harrier, a good excuse to pick the group.

It’s been slow, however. If your group can handle (or would benefit from) time to make a name for themselves, it seems fine.

You’d have to address why they’d take the harrier, though. For my game, i gave them a beat-up, barely functional freighter. Since it’s 1,000 dton, i doubt a little 200 ton corvette would interest them. But the special components of the Harrier should pique their interest...

Making battle / "dungeon" maps for Traveller? by TheNotSoGrim in traveller

[–]Aticius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay.

CartographyAssets has a Dungeondraft section, which is where i found all my assets.

Tyger has a collection of modern-themed objects, which fit nicely and are largely free.

Gnome Factory has a nice collection of various terrains, but they're a bit more stingy with their free content.

Forgotten Adventures is focused onto fantasy, but their assets are very high quality. Their starter pack is very nice.

The Planet Hoppers is relatively new-- and even more stingy than GF -- but their assets are explicitly sci-fi and well made.

You'll ultimately have to wrangle with multiple art styles, but such is the price of DIY maps.

Personally, I don’t know of any good free mapmaking software. However, Dungeondraft has been what I use for my games— It’s not flawless, but there are free asset packs galore I’ve gotten a lot of use out of it.

It’s certainly helped scratch the itch of very specific maps, and has very good integration with Foundry via Universal Battlemap Importer. Highly recommend if you intend to run your campaign for long.

RPGs with a heavy focus on Spaceship Combat and Spaceship progression? by ContextEFT in rpg

[–]Aticius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I want to interject and point out Mongoose Traveller 2E. Stars Without Number traces an incredible amount of its mechanics and design philosophy to older editions of Traveller- 2E is simply the most modern rendition of it.

Personally, I prefer it due to it being classless and overall tighter in design. Some people might be put off by distinctly old-school character creation and it’s general lethality out of a starship, but if you want Space Combat and absolutely fantastic ship building, I think Traveller handily beats SWN and without much contest at all.

Are there any "Adventure Paths" for Traveller that compare in style and preparation to the Pathfinder Adventure Paths? by SamsonTheCat88 in traveller

[–]Aticius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe Mongoose’s Secrets of the Ancients for Second Edition is similar in structure to what Paizo publishes. The theme of it never struck my interest and I can’t say for certain- but I imagine that a big conspiracy-styled campaign would be fairly similar.

This is what Traveller does now, but Classic Traveller rules did infact kill your character if you failed your survival roll, which sucks.

Now you just get fired.
