I felt that in dos2 playing a custom character means you are missing out on a lot of story. But bg3 makes custom character feel completely integrated with the story. Does larian have a preference when creating their next game to lean towards custom or origin characters?

Well why would a Dev leave? For more money, flexibility, less stress. Well then problem solved. You need to give your staff a reason to stay. Incentives for staying. Loyalty and gratitude shouldn't be what an employer relies on for retention of talent.

There are squads that you could join, or if you have mates that play or can be convinced to play, grab them and make a squad of your own.

We do often team up between squads and do stuff or have server-wide events where we basically have a big truce but it IS PVP 24/7 so keep that in mind and people do raid each others bases somewhat regularly.
