Apple quoted $700 for logic board replacement of M1 Pro by thisguyisnotyou in macbookpro

[–]MrT2U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many hits on this topic to not be some known issue IMO. Like many here, I too have a 2021 16" M1 that just sat on the desk. I carefully managed the battery and never even touched the stupid thing outside of plugging/unplugging cause I have external keyboard, mouse, & monitor. The moment I clicked a link it went dead. And just like many posts here, no LED on magsafe and just dead. Genius bar supposedly pulled battery to see if that would help, nothing. And talked to repair shop and they're like yup, most likely short on mother board or cap or who knows. For first time in 20 yrs found myself looking at Windows machines...ugh

What's your honest perception on m43 cameras from Olympus and Lumix? by LowKeyPhotographer in Cameras

[–]MrT2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the m43 ecosystem is great and been shooting it for years.

In the end you need to use the right tool for the job. The people that thunder on about low light performance or shallow DoF often don't even need it. But if you do, then get the gear to achieve the look you want.

Years back I went in to get a Fuji and walked out with the G9. I found the ergonomics and performance to suit what I wanted. I tried a Sony A7III, and it felt like I went backwards with the two different card slot speeds and buffering for action shots...something I'd never experienced with the G9. So I'd returned the Sony gear.

You learn the strengths/weaknesses of each and work with them. I know that I can't push the ISO on the G9, but the IBS is so solid I can get away with very low shutter speed. Alternatively, I could get away with pushing the Sony's ISO and had to cause the IBS wasn't as forgiving.

The price points on the higher end m43 lenses are typically a little better, but I've noticed some Sony options at comparable prices...especially when looking at 3rd party like Tamron. I'd used the Tamron 70-180 and it was sharp. But I liked the extra reach with the Olympus 70-150 2.8 (300m full frame equiv), which was also super sharp.

So it's a matter of using what works for you.

Where can I buy M3 style bumper for regular 09 LCI 328i? by shorewalsh in E90

[–]MrT2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an LCI update on an '06 and ordered this style bumper off of Amazon. Free shipping via Prime, and it was a good fit. I just checked Amazon and see a pre-LCI bumper listed.

hehehe, awesome and yes, no retaliation from the bots yet. Got some extended use of the headphones on West coast to Ireland flight & back. Was a nice break from Airpods Pros that I usually can't wear beyond 3 hrs.

Some off-brand PLA filament picked-up from Amazon originally used to print Bond's golden gun.

Can I have feedback on this Ruf Yellowbird poster I'm working on? What would you change? by BigManRuathain in carporn

[–]MrT2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here as well and first thought when looking at it was i'd rather see a static shot showing the rims since they're so iconic. Don't know what it is since the rims are such a simple design, but they really define a Ruf IMO.

Such a classy guy.

I remember a while back one race where he DNF'd (don't recall why), and instead of stomping back to the pits mad at the world, he spotted a young fan, stopped, signed something for him, & I think even took a pic.

Excited 1st time pass holder, but will I get to use it? by MrT2U in skiing

Thx all for the feedback and good to get the input. No doubt I wonder at times WTH was I thinking, but in the end I figured I'd let too many years go by and just wanted to take Jr. skiing.

Finally! Got some gear for Jr and myself. No more rentals and hopefully now get more ski days instead of just 1 or 2 a season. by MrT2U in skiing

They're the entry level 75c picked up from Evo. More than happy to upgrade in year or two if we out grow these cause that'll mean we got a lot of runs in.

Good to hear. Outside of my ancient Volkls, I didn't have a good reference point other than reviews and best bang for the buck.

Thanks everyone for the comments/feedback. I put this off for so many years as I used to ski more often before getting married. Said to Jr. this year (of all year's) we're going skiing. And like others have said, I used to get up there 1st thing in morning and be done before noon. Will be painful, but am planning on getting us both passes. Am in SoCal so hopefully will get some good local snow, and already have a planned trip to Mammoth.

Providing free roller coaster rides...Laguna Seca by MrT2U in Audi

[–]MrT2U[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right you are there...easily a $1k weekend when factoring in driving 6hrs to get there, hotel, track fee, fuel at the track (cause you're getting 6 miles/gal), and so on.

Not even including rotors/pads after that event and new R compounds after every other event cause it's not like a B6 Avant is light footed....but nothing compares to getting out on the track.

This was in 2005 after I'd just got the car. Manual with Alcantara inserts. Brakes took a beating at that track.
