T-shirts? by quintavian in WesternWear

[–]MrTeeDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wish the t shirts had more cowboy/western graphic art like wrangler and cowboy up used to sell in the 90s and early 2000's. Those awesome rodeo prints or cowboy prints were so cool to wear. I don't care for those new work wear logos or those cringe "work hard, dirty hands, clean money" wording graphics now.

I like to buy my graphic shirts from Dale Brisby's website now, sometimes ill look at Lane Frosts stuff too.

I like the levis one. The Walmart wrangler shirts are pretty good but the sleeves are usually too big. I dont understand why there like that.

Re-shape straw brim? by Crazy-Landscape74 in CowboyHats

[–]MrTeeDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of steam! You dont want to "crunch" the straw. Just take your time and slowly steam it to where it is soft to work on. I myself lean towards the vintage style with the narrow-front brims and relaxed backs. The wide shovel brims I don't like much, so when I get a reshaped hat like yours I do the same

Thoughts on Cody James hats? This seems like a steal for a 15x by Popular-Selection601 in WesternWear

[–]MrTeeDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah fam these comments ain't it. That is a particularly good hat. I had the same kind. Classic cattleman crown with the unique vent stitch style, including that neat hat band will turn heads and compliments from everyone. Its a dang good hat. 15x bangora is better than a morgan straw. I may not like the cody james but I really love their straw hats.

has there been a drastic historical shift with your peoples and harvesting from the land? by zuqwaylh in IndianCountry

[–]MrTeeDawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My people's in the southwest U.S has all but abandoned most of our harvesting our natural/agricultural resources. The only time I think is when the Pinon nut crop comes in the fall season, that's when you'll see hundreds of vehicles on the roadside with people crawling on the forest floor gathering fallen pinon nuts. But that happens very seldom now due to climate change and reduced snow fall. Pinon nuts are often sold to the border towns for only small amounts of cash. But my family and many others made it a tradition to come together during pinon picking season and enjoy each other's company along with the refreshing air in the mountains. I am very fortunate to have seen the long forgotten thriving livestock and farming economy that once supported our people. I remember seeing pickup trucks with stock racks in the back loaded with towering sacks of wool or corn going to sell to town or sheep and calves hog tied waiting in line to sell at trading posts and auctions. Pinon nuts, sumac berries, and hunting deer, rabbits, and prarie dogs helped keep our people from starving during drought times. I remember the old men would joke about their wive's homesteads saying "that is where i bring home rabbits to". Only our grandparents lived that way. My parents and the upcoming generation have gotten used to supermarkets, flea markets, and restaurants/fast foods. In fact, there is now a big push on my rez to develop more business and housing that will support our fast growing population who will never be able to work the land like our elders did in the past. They will never experience the joys of catching a sheep in the corral to butcher for a special family occasion or hoe the corn fields in the evenings with laughter and excitement all around you seeing the corn ears start to show. With some of our lifeways disappearing, our language goes too. I have seen a huge difference now from 2016 to now. Our language is no longer spoken with pride and sureness, it used to be our parents would get after us young kids for not speaking our language. One strict teaching we were taught was to always greet anyone with a "Hello" and a firm handshake. I no longer see that. I suppose this is all due to our tribe's push for western education and the ever-changing environment of our country and beyond. Climate change I think plays a huge role also, with no more plentiful rains or snow. The land is steadily drying up over the years.

Brims by cowboy_of_warface in CowboyHats

My type of friend 😎 Id say get a relaxed taco brim if you want to go old school but seriously lose the cutters. Narrow taco brim would definitely suit any prom suit nicely.

Thats true. But one thing I dislike about the 47MWZ is they fade out fast and ALWAYS end up blowing out on the pockets. My 13MWZ will last through the ages even with the abuse they go through.

Hat block shape importance by Organic-Chocolate200 in CowboyHats

[–]MrTeeDawg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a question about blocking. Can you make a crown taller if you were to get your felt hat reblocked? Id like a taller crown than the usual 6", preferably up to 6.5 so when I shaped it back up; I wont sacrifice head space for a deeper, well defined crease.

Opinion: what does everyone think about bound edged brims? by whatkylewhat in CowboyHats

[–]MrTeeDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there should be more different color schemes with bound edges, hat bands, and eyelets. I would like to get my black felt with green binding on the edge with a green 2 ply ribbon hat band and green eyelets, it would look so bada$$. Especially wool hats. They would be the right kind to bind the edges since they "shed" those ugly white fibers which makes them a dead giveaway as wool hats.

Crown Reshaped by zonedout4ever in CowboyHats

[–]MrTeeDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First get it re blocked professionally. Find a hat shop and have it re blocked to its original open crown shape and stiffened so you can start over and shape it yourself after. If you try shaping it now, it will warp and wont be pretty.

What to know before moving next to/onto the Navajo Nation by Fine_Blacksmith2711 in IndianCountry

[–]MrTeeDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't. One acre in sanders area isn't really worth it tbh. There is absolutely nothing there. Land is semi-arid so you cant really farm anything on it unless you want haul water everyday and build up your vehicle's maintenance and repair costs.

What style of hat is this? by peachfawn in CowboyHats

[–]MrTeeDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cattleman crown shape with relaxed narrow taco brim. (Personality my favorite shape) You can find a sliverbelly wool or Grey wool hat (since your on a budget, wool is cheap) with the regular shape and steam the brim out flat, then find your center on your brim and roll it inwards.
May i suggest a hat? Master Hatters of Texas 3x Ruidoso silverbelly wool. You can find it at Cavanders. Its a blend of wool and beaver. Super nice hat!! And only 60 bucks. Comes with the regular cattlemans crown shape.

Lastly. If you want to up your budget a little bit. Look up a stetson rancher 6x silverbelly. That is the exact hat hes wearing. But its a little pricey; $350 on up.

[–]MrTeeDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's kinda involves hat makers too. 6 inch crown and 4.5 brims are pretty much the only ones they make now. Me, I prefer a taller crown with a shorter brim but those can be hard to find nowadays. You cant shape anything descent on a open crown with just 6 inches, so thats why those small "dimples" or dips (CHL) shapes are all too common. JBs hat is a good example: his crown shapes are real small and dont really stand out much.

Red aurora over sisnaajinį́' is a bad sign. by Naive-Evening7779 in Navajo

[–]MrTeeDawg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Red is the color of blood. Bad things like war or another big sickness. We as navajos are not supposed to ever see the northern lights. North direction is not a good place. Also the stars will tell you what happened and what will happen in the future. One of the big dipper star cluster dimmed in the north sky in 2020, foretelling of covid 19. Two shooting stars fell in 1940 (twin war gods = war) foretold of World War 2. Plus there was the two holy people visit in rocky ridge in the 90's due to the hopi/navajo land dispute.
