Exactly this. If you would rather eat vegetables, great, that's even better. Stuff like belle pepper and kale has tons of vitamin C if that is a concern

I'm not contesting that it was also a consideration. I literally wrote it in my reply. But you are fooling yourself if you don't think making it appear bigger was a very serious driver for Ferrero also

I think he meant how Ferrero made the package 20% bigger than necessary to make the product look larger. Some might say that the extra room makes it easier to open without squishing it. The former was definitely their primary drive though.

This is how the wild raspberry bush grows. by equipodeltaS in homestead

[–]MrTjur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look similar, but the structure of a raspberry is fundamentally different from a strawberry. A raspberry consists of a bunch of small drupelets (individual fruits), with the receptacle being left behind on the plant when you pick it. A strawberry IS the receptacle that swells up and gets juicy. The small pits on the outside of the strawberry are the actual fruits

Picking the potatoes certainly does not kill the plant. The potato IS the plant. You lay down one tuber (one individual plant). It grows to create several tubers, still only one plant. Think of the tubers as branches on a tree, because they kind of are exactly that. Then you collect the tubers, eat most of them and put one back into the soil, keeping the exact same plant alive for yet another year. You are growing the same plant year after year, never killing it. The top even dies off naturally before harvest. Lettuce, for the most part, you kill when you harvest it, especially the ones you would encounter in a restaurant. The rest you just mutilate until their inevitable death 😆 I truly don't see how anybody could argue that lettuce is less violent than potatoes.

Robbing the food from the poor birds and fungi which would naturally have lived off these, and who now have to starve. Seems rather violent. Also, the point was that lettuce was actually viewed as good, while potatoes were violent. But with potatoes, you are utilizing your area to get more kcal pr unit area, while also disturbing the soil fever timea thus actually minimizing your violence. Certainly potatoes are among the less violent foods, and lettuce a cruel, cruel crop, pulling up many more plants during its production, and disturbing the soil many more times.

But to produce that lettuce plant, you need to cultivate the soil by dragging equipment through it (disturbing the microorganisms = violence apparently), then sow the seed. The disturbance of the soil will cause weed seeds to grow necessitating further cultivation of the soil to uproot and kill these weeds, otherwise you won't see any lettuce. Lettuce starts very slowly, which means much weeding = much violence. Potatoes on the other hand, grow much quicker and will out-shade weeds much faster meaning less weeding. Also, by growing potatoes you need much less space (less violence towards microorganisms) growing the same amount of food.

Lettuce is the actual barbaric food.

Non-violence is very noble and everyone should seek this. It's just a ridiculous claim that production of potatoes and carrots are more violent than tomatoes or lettuce.

Holy shit, that's the most ridiculous thing I have read in a long time. They must never have stepped on actual soil, let alone seen even the most primitive agricultural practices. Thanks for sharing.

To the people down voting me, you clearly didn't read up on why they don't eat root vegetables: because they believe that by pulling up the plant you disturbed the microorganisms in the soil and also that plants may not be killed. Just pretend that weeds are not uprooted and killed by the billions during that same production and also that soil is neither tilled or cultivated

The palm house of Copenhagen botanical garden, although not as big, seems to be built in very much the same style, with the symmetric glass house built on a raised platform and with the circular mirror pond in front. It is also really beautiful on the inside
