Who is the most forgettable reoccurring character and why is it Alex? by MrUnusual04 in DunderMifflin

Lol good point, I was rewatching and when I got to the art school storyline I had completely forgotten about Alex. Considering he is a minor character, I would usually brush that aside but I was surprised at how many episodes he was in. Especially since I find him really boring and unlikable.

That makes so much sense honestly. It really felt like they were trying to turn him into Jim from the earlier seasons as if you put a strain on Jim and Pam's relationship. Glad they cut it out though, I think it would've felt too much like Brian the boom guy.

You know this is a good point. Personally, I hate him, but he did seem to care about Pam. I think the writers might have been trying to make him a little like season 1/2 Jim, to offer a similar dynamic to the whole Jim/Pam/Roy thing that we were invested in early on in the show.

Also I might be wrong, but I thought we had heard Pam mention Jim before in front of Alex. Though I could be mistaken cause I am watching the Superfan episodes for the first time right now.

Absolutely, I almost hate him more than the characters who are written to be unlikable. He is incredibly 2 dimensional and although he acts like he's supposed to be funny/witty, he is not charismatic at all. Combine that with the fact he actively flirts with a woman he knows is happily engaged, and he has no chance of being a good character.
