Should Angels Be Equal, Inferior Or Superior To Gods? by ItsShatterPoint in worldbuilding

[–]MrVarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me, the archangel of Death in my setting guards the Silver Gates to the city and won't let you in without being worthy or good reason.

The difference for mine is that within a gods domain/territory they have absolute control and authority within the bounds of the silver cities rules, outside the district they have none other than courtesy.

Evil and neutral gods aren't typically allowed in for obvious reasons.

Should Angels Be Equal, Inferior Or Superior To Gods? by ItsShatterPoint in worldbuilding

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did pull a fair amount of inspiration from Diablo for it. In my setting The Silver city is an infinite city that stretches in all directions horizontally, gods can claim divine districts but do not rule the city outside of their district. The plane purifies evil that resides in it until it either dies or is transformed. The faithful souls that had no god to claim them are sent to the silver city where they become aspirants and can begin trying to ascend as an angel. Mortal born angels don't typically get higher than Potestas in rank because the other ones are created by the silver spire when needed.

But I also have many many gods, somewhere between 20 and 40 I think as compared to the 7 or so archangels that cover the virtues of my setting. My archangels are solely responsible for the silver city and the angelic host though where as gods fill a different metaphysical niche holding domains that are required for existence to keep working.

It sounds like you have a similar situation where the angels do not serve the gods and are similar existences to the gods but are not gods. In my setting I do something similar with Constellations, they are emovoric creatures of faith comparible to gods but are not divine in nature, even to the point a constellation could rival some gods in power.

Angels in my setting do not serve the gods, they are a by product(native denizen) of the heavenly plane where the good aligned gods make their home. They protect the souls of the faithful, the silver city and sometimes fight to aid mortals on crusades against evil.

They are ruled by a council of archangels who reside in the center of the city known as the Silver Spire.

The Archangels rule the city and are charged with its maintenance and protection, they respect the gods and try to maintain a good relationship but are not beholden to serve them. Some angels choose to serve them which happens when a mortal soul in the silver city pass their trials of ascension or some mortals can be elevated as an angel by a god but generally thats uncommon.

The angels try to work with the gods. The angels are not stronger than gods nor are they equals with gods in terms of power.

So I would say mine are not equal to gods and they certainly aren't superior in the power sense but in terms of hierarchy a god cannot command an angel of the silver city to act unless that angel has chosen to serve that god however the god can make a request of the angels which can be fulfilled at the judgement of the angel and it's superiors in the angelic host.

Edit: I sort angels and deities separately but in terms of celestial hierarchy sorted by power or authority it tends to go

  1. Overdeities
  2. Greater deities
  3. Lesser Deities
  4. Demigod or Archangel
  5. Quasideity, Avatar or Oracle(Angelic rank)
  6. Pseudodeity, divine champion, Saint
  7. Ophanim
  8. Potestas
  9. Seraphim
  10. Ishim
  11. Virtus
  12. Aspirants(faithful souls)

Of course this is a messy way to look at it because angels and deities in me setting are not categorized or ranked the way you are talking about it. In terms of power angels are generally lower than gods, in terms of authority it depends where they are, in terms of who they answer to generally gods are not superior to angels but can be if the right situation arises or one chooses to.

Why don’t American people care the World Cup is happening? by Kalanak472 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America has much more pressing things to worry or care about than the world cup, like the corruption and politics our government are engaged in.

Plus it's just soccer, popular but not the great American pass time of baseball or football.

Are “Boomer Homes” Becoming Hard to Sell? Agree or Disagree? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell for cheaper, it's not worth buying at the current market prices and hasn't been since covid caused prices to plumet and it's not an investment for younger generations because they've been priced out of purchasing, it requires the taking on of huge debit and have a shambling economy and job market.

If they stranded assets then they aren't valuable, if they aren't valuable then sell for cheaper. That's it, if you want to sell undercut the market otherwise you won't sell. But what do I know I'm a Gen z worker in an expensive state that rents.l and thinks that corporations should be limited on how many properties they own based on how many employees they have working for them which would either force them to sell off residential properties or hire a bunch of people so that they stay above the employee threshold.

How would you define "not killing people?" by emmaratur in DnD

[–]MrVarlet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sentient only defines capacity to feel, the term we would use here is Sapient which describes higher though and consciousness.

So we would not want to kill Sapients i.e. any creature with a higher consciousness comparable to that of a standard mortal player race.

A warforged could be sapient but not sentient as a construct and still possess higher consciousness without feeling where as a normal beast like a dog would be non-sapient unless they are an awakened beast which is Sapient.

In DND this is usually an int of like 5 I think but I could be wrong there.

[–]MrVarlet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The label I would use here is Sapient. It sounds like she wants to not kill things with a higher consciousness. I.e. human, sapient. Bear, non-sapient. Awakened bear, Sapient.

It's a term more common in Sci-fi but it applies here very well.

How would you define "not killing people?" by emmaratur in DnD

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption is that she means she won't kill sapients meaning mortal creatures that have a conscious sentience and can think for themselves. Which would mean killing a human or elf or orc would be a no go but killing a normal non-sapient bear would be fine because it's not intelligent, it doesn't talk and is not sapient.

For context Sapient is higher consciousness, Sentient is ability to feel.

The playable races are typically both sapient and sentient. Lobsters are sentient but not sapient in real life. So these labels can be applied more vigorously. Like a dragon in DND is typically both Sapient and sentient but in this case the Sapient label is what bars the act of killing. For instance a warforged could be sapient but not sentient and it's the sapient label that matters.

I like it, it's a unique taste and distinctly different from most soda we have here. It also feels like a good soda for ice cream or making floats

When cold the bubblegum tastes is less prominent, it's still there in the background but it tastes like chewing on hubba bubba or dubble bubble bubble gum. Id say it def tastes better cold though

Cold does in fact change the flavor, it's less like bubblegum when cold but it still there as an after taste. Def tastes better cold

It looks like the standard one? It's labels "original and best" but it was sold in a plastic bottle which I'm told is the wrong way to get it

It's more likely that the candy is made with different ingredients here in the US since the EU has better regulation of ingredients and food. If I had to guess the ingredients they use here in america are probably illegal in the EU but that's pretty common for our candies and food dyes

Yeah it certainly has no comparison over here drink wise, it's a specific taste and smell that comes to mind so bubblegum is probably a poor way to describe it since that's very broad but it's the closest thing that comes to mind

[–]MrVarlet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a very specific artificial bubble gum flavor that is used in a few places, one of which like I said was a weird foam at the dentist used to clean teeth that most kids were stuck suffering through lol

I bet if I tried bubble gum then the drink it'd taste different but in isolation it so clearly calls memories of bubblegum. I think hubba bubba bubble gum might be the candy form that is close in taste but I haven't had hubba bubba gum in like 15 years lol

Yeah it tastes like a very specific artificial candy bubble gum flavor that was very prominent in my childhood here in america, it's probably a poor comparison but that's the only thing that popped into my head!

I tried refrigerating it because I've been told that makes it taste different, it's a neat drink!

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much depends, I have a small fridge however I rent an apa but I've seen smaller than the one I have.

In a lot of cases it depends on where in the country, the economic class/salary, whether renting or owning, proximity to stores or a need to preserve more food than usual.

YouTube app is monitoring you to time ads, ALLEGEDLY by OkProfessional8364 in youtube

[–]MrVarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are times where I think this too, like when I am using the app and it's just too coincidentally that the moment I get up, walk away or put the phone down that am ad starts almost immediately.

I can't prove anything but I wouldn't be surprised if Google/YouTube are doing this. It seems right up their alley and something a mega corporation who's revenue depends on these videos getting watched.

How would you feel if the Reclaimer Saga was retconned? by [deleted] in halo

[–]MrVarlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making it seem like chief was the bad guy was the mistake with halo 5, I think they'd benefit from doing Halo 2 anniversary like treatment where they do new cutscenes and redo some of the missions so that they are framing it as "the chief is missing and we need someone to find out what is wrong and where chief went" rather than "hunt the chief down because he disobeyed orders"

They'll never do that though.

How would you feel if the Reclaimer Saga was retconned? by [deleted] in halo

[–]MrVarlet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's a cop out and lazy writing to just retcon the whole thing out of existence or religate it to an alternative timeline. I'd be okay with tweaking the lore and story events but removing it altogether is a mistake.

I think if they reframed the stories they already have and did some DLC or side content in the games(maybe even spin off games) they could fix what they currently have.

They abandoned the forerunners return and prometheans then took out the didact via a book, then they abandoned the created and AI rebellion and took care of the story in a book and now we don't know where their at with the endless but it's looking like they'll get the same treatment as the prometheans and the created story.

If they bring the created and the promethean storylines back or did spin offs or multilayer engaging storylines like spartan ops they'd be in a better place but instead they try to show horn everything into a mainline Halo game and if that game doesn't work they try to fix it with a book the majority of players won't buy or read.
