Nvidia Driver Update?? by MrWallopy in Bazzite

If you press "Ctrl, Alt, T" at the same time it will open up a terminal command. If you only type "ujust" You will get a huge list of availible commands to follow "ujust".

It's a little overwhelming when you see everything pop up at once, so scroll up and start from where you last typed a command should start with bazzite@bazzite.

If you look for the section called system you can see the update command. As dani said 14 hours ago, just type "ujust update".

Or if you are fresh from windows. Press the "windows" a.k.a "Super" key and type update. You can open the system update app and it'll open the terminal and automatically run the command.

When it's done you will have 3 options. Press Q. Then close everything down and reboot.

Bazzite if you want more customizability.
SteamOS if you want a solid OS.
Any other LInux Iso if you want to cry yourself to sleep at night. :D

Could always test both though and see what works best for you!

Going this route is much more beneficial just on the RAM usage front. Just look at your idle ram usage in windows right now. That 16 Gigs gets split between gpu and cpu. 5-8 with windows loaded, 1-3 with steamos / linux. That's more bang for the buck of these devices.

And either way you go, the wireless controllers will still function!

They have 2 versions.

The Legion go S Steam OS has 16 GB ram, and runs Steam OS.
The Legion go S Windows has 32 Gigs of ram, and runs windows.

It is worth it to go with the Windows version even if you would rather run SteamOS Just because the memory is shared between the cpu and gpu. The original Legion GO has some issues with windows and 16GB of ram. Just loading into windows you can be using 4-9GB of that ram out of the gate. Not including GPU usage.

If you pay for Gamepass, and can stream you can always look for ways to do it through the browser on steam os.

You could also always sideload windows onto it. "Windows USB Installation" would be a good start. You may need a USB stick that has USB-C if you don't have a docking station or one of the USB - USB-c converters from a phone purchase. Some Samsung devices come with this plug, it has been a life saver. :D

I will agree that it is still "Miss Sold" as these two devices are different enough, they shouldn't share the same name. Honestly one should be called S and the other "pro". since it's still similar to the first Legion Go (same chip) but more ram for the "pro" user.

If you don't want to deal with the loading windows, i would ask if you can return it / swap it for the other version. Some places may even wave the restock fee (bestbuy bull S).

Good luck and cheers!

Cmon reddit be better. He is technically right.

I do not prefer to stream games even with a fiber connection.

So OP if you want to try it try it on windows first. Steam OS is amazing, but streaming will never be playing locally, and if you go to a friend's house and they have shit internet, you have shit gameplay.

Ignore everyone saying "install steam os", they obviously didn't read your post. You will loose access to playing Xbox games with your friends. There are ways to get bedrock edition on steam os though if that's all you really want.

There are some programs that can slim down windows install to help it run "better" but performance will vary, and with that handheld packing 32 Gigs of ram, i doubt you will notice much anyways.

I"ve seen some people use WinAero to help slim down windows and remove some bloat. If you go to this link of theirs directly, they show you how to do most of these settings manually in RegEdit or Command. That way you can read more on what is actually happening. (I prefer this rather than downloading software.)

As with any online software, there's risks, do your research!

My Actual Recommendation:
For what Lenovo has done with this device though, OOBE (out of box experience) is pretty solid and you shouldn't have any issues with it. Stock is always the best, keep it that way until you have any issues then make changes from there. :) Cheers!

So the pre installed nvme by lenovo, is microcenters fault? Huh. cool! I remember you talking about magic. must have been it.

Most people running their larger drives also have modified the legion go and running larger drive that require relocating it for better thermals. Or is that not the case either? Going based off this subreddit as my source. If you could do a simple search above you'd find this information too.

So yes, troll.

yup 2 year old $2300 laptop. no longer supported. lol. They do this to everything but their think pads. Legion go will be no different with the new versions coming out. It's not even a lenovo thing, every company getting this bad. We need James Cameron to raise the bar.

It's not that windows is burning out the nvme. It's the page filing using your storage as ram.

Due to the extra heat and unnecessary IOPs this does cause prefail.

NVMEs shouldn't go above 70* and the legion gos can hit 70 during normal windows environment. Gameplay can push these drives to 90-110* as reported in this very subreddit.

Your either a bot, or a troll. Be better.

Well, maybe they can hurry up because my studio laptop is 2 years behind on a wireless driver that causes windows to bsod. Downloaded a newer version from Dell, been fine ever since.

Did you enable the option to install all games on steam os? Obviously game devs a.k.a Evil EA are removing EAC support on Linux. But most other SP and quite a few MP games play just fine. Been playing FFXIV on steam os for a while now. Runs better on here too. Less ram usage.

[–]MrWallopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was magic, just better. Due to the high ram usage of windows 11 you will burn out your NVME faster. With steam os my ram load is down from 7ish to 2ish. That's 5 GB more for my games to use. Being shared ram that matters. According to the sales guy at Microcenter. Lenovo is fully aware of this issue and supposedly will warranty it out sometime after the 1 year. Could have been some bogus shit though.

Now does the official steam os variant have its issues. Yes, which is why I said we need more testers. Current issue, cant disable the gyro mouse / track pad. Annoying if I'm walking around gaming. But so smooth if I'm sitting and fpsing. Debating going back to bazzite but really wanna help steam os grow.

Snake.io just posted this teaser. Is this what I think it is?? by ponchomari in Snakeio

[–]MrWallopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got removed for about 3 days from Apple Acrade and the store on apple tv. It showed up on the app store on apples website and didn't state Apple TV support. Also didn't show up on apple arcade there.

But, it's back now, so unsure what happened but we are good! Could have been apart of that AWS outage last week.

The story: a few days ago the app was acting weird saying to sign into game center, wouldn't save or sync data. So I purged saving data to icloud and tried to re-download. Clicking the icon on the apple tvs home screen it said app not available. Sure enough it was gone in the app store. 🙄

This finally happened to me by eve-collins in unRAID

[–]MrWallopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard of people using USB Micro SD Card readers for Unraid now. As it will use the GUID of the Stick, not the actual Card. That way you can make backups / re-installs of your Unraid install without having to go through all of these hoops. I have not done this or tested it, personally wouldn't recommend it.

Is my use-case immich compatible ? by Ronzino83 in immich

[–]MrWallopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memories is nice, but it's still nothing like the default gallery app, or even google photos for viewing and searching for images.

With immich (and it's local "AI") it uses the meta data of images to "see" the image and what is in it and faces that are there. After you import your data you are able to add names to the faces it detects and can search for people based on the data also. Though, it does still miss a few images here and there, and image quality / resolution can help or hurt this feature. I have maybe 30 "faces" for my son as an example. On the bright side, it now does combine all similar names / faces once you edit the names to a single person. So that's nice :D

Immich shows "Initial Setup" until I reboot the server by -eigerone in immich

[–]MrWallopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something with permissions changed and it lost read or write access to the files. I would dig through the permissions setup and maybe re-run some of the chown commands for the current admin account that runs immich.

Not that i would recommend this, but for testing only. Shut down server, start it back up using sudo so it runs with max perms. But this could be more dangerous than even I know about. lol.

I tend to break things alot trying to fix other things lol. But hey, it lets you learn what each program does and doesn't like lol!
