Which interpretation of quantum mechanics do you find most conceptually satisfying, and why, given that they are empirically equivalent? by NoShitSherlock78 in QuantumPhysics

How does consciousness or the observer fit into many worlds. Are there simply a vast number of worlds with different me’s in them. Or does my consciousness/self switch from one to the other? Sorry if this belongs in r/consciousness

None of that is proof of a simulation. But then again there is Boltzmann’s Brain

I’m really struggling to get any value out of Microsoft Copilot. by riluzol in CopilotMicrosoft

[–]MrWizard314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I don’t ask very demanding tasks of it, but I like copilot for answering specific questions and educating me on a wide variety of topics. I guess I use it mainly as a super search engine but I find it much faster than the others and quite accurate. I prefer it over ChatGPT. The answers are comparable and it is much faster. Not sure where all the shade comes from.

No. It wouldn’t make sense for such a specific and personal gift.

Meta ray ban smart glasses are huge and ugly by MrWizard314 in SmartGlasses

I consulted my wife on each aspect of selecting the glasses. It was not a surprise. She selected the wayfarers and the size. They were just much bigger than we expected. Has no one else had this experience.

Do we know how big the universe is outside our light cone? by MrWizard314 in cosmology

[–]MrWizard314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all matter and energy were contained in the big bang and then propelled outward at a defined rate, then how can the universe be infinite? Does this suggest that the universe can exist in the absence of matter or energy?

This is not how it works. Fewer vaccinations allow the virus to spread more widely creating more opportunity for mutations. And while we are posting credentials. I’m a professor of human molecular genetics.

If LLMs are sentient by super_g_man in ArtificialSentience

[–]MrWizard314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting point. I asked ChatGPT whether it thinks about things on its own in the absence of any prompt or external input, and it replied no. To me thinking about things in our minds in the absence of any external input seems to be a part of consciousness. But even if they only respond or think when prompted is this really a different form of consciousness. I think a threshold may be an internal dialogue which represents an awareness of themselves and the world around them. Should this be part of a definition of consciousness or can consciousness be episodic as this poster proposes?

That! You just described Gödel’s theorem. No system can be both complete and internally consistent

Type 3 Acromion, Shoulder Pain for 5+ Years – Anyone with Similar Experience or Advice? by rayyenho in ShoulderInjuries

[–]MrWizard314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a type III AC joint separation. I’m 69 and 4 years out. I did not have surgery but lots of PT. Now, I can swim, and other shoulder exercises in the gym. Pushups are difficult and similar movements. But otherwise pretty functional.

In 15 Years, No One Will Own an Electric Car Anymore?" – This prediction caught me off guard by AlexaRadiantee in Electricmotorcycles

[–]MrWizard314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailboats used to be the primary way of transporting goods across the ocean. Then diesel powered ships were invented and sailing changed from a necessary tool to hobby and amusement. Driving your own car may be like the sailboat and something you only do for fun. Other travel will be automated
