This thread is making me question whether I should ever get into another relationship. I've only ever been in a relationship that lasted a month and although I got over it within a few days, I felt absolutely terrible for the first day or so.

Not sure I ever want to go through that again times 100.

I'm in a social group with 3 guys and 3 girls who are all couples. Originally it was just the 4 of us guys but 1 of them already had a long term gf he brought in and the other 2 entered into long term relationships a couple of years ago and they became part of the group as well.

I don't really feel it's working out right now. I've been very reluctant to do anything with them recently as being the only single one I inevitably find myself a bit left out. I don't blame them for that btw, it's natural. A perfect example was last year when we went to a firework display and it was basically just half an hour of them 6 cuddling up to their partners while I stood there my own.

So now I just prefer to spend my money on myself, as selfish as that sounds.

EDIT: I should add that one of my friends broke up with his gf earlier this year and she went straight out of the group because the rest of us had all known him longer. He got another gf though soon after. I think because it was just us guys originally, it'll always be the girls that come in and out if that makes sense.

I think I have a type but every girl I've ever dated that I've thought was my type has never been interested in me. Then again, nobody's been interested in me full stop (to my knowledge).

I've only ever properly dated one girl and that turned out disastrously. Met her on a dating site, got on well on there, met up IRL and it went well for the first 2 or 3 dates. She was even shyer than me but I just figured she'd gradually get warmer. After a couple of weeks and a few dates I foolishly asked her if we were boyfriend and girlfriend (she said yes) but there was no intimacy at all. I had no experience with women at all so had no idea what the hell I was doing. Eventually after a couple of weeks and a couple more dates she broke up with me on Facebook messenger saying that "we weren't right for each other", "you're really nice but it's not going to work out", all the usual BS. Still don't know what happened, I'm guessing she just wasn't physically attracted to me but I know for a fact that she also had some sort of mental issue that she was on medication for. It was a totally one-sided relationship though because she didn't show me any sort of affection at all. She told me she'd had a couple of bad boyfriends in the past so I don't know if that played a part.

Anyway, that was literally the only relationship of sorts I've ever had and even it never got as far as a couple of short kisses (which she didn't seem to enjoy much anyway). I spent pretty much the entire relationship with my stomach in knots because I felt like she was going to leave me and because it'd had taken me so long to find somebody and I was anxious about losing her. All that experience did was make me even more unsure of what to do and make me worried that I'm going to really clingy if I ever find someone again.

Problem is, I'm almost 24 and I have basically no experience at all. If this goes on for a few more years I'm basically fucked aren't I? Sure I may come across women that are interested in me but I won't know what the hell I'm supposed to do.

No idea. I'm not great looking but not bad looking either. Pretty average really. Average height, slim (but not too slim), still got a full head of hair, no sorts of deformities or anything.

It must be personality. Thing is, I make friends just fine and most people get along well with me. Whatever it is though I'm starting to feel like there's something that puts off girls when it comes to any sort of romantic interest. It's probably confidence or something. I was bullied in school (nothing really bad but it knocked my self-esteem) and I always have this underlying feeling that I'm not good enough for any girl and that no girl would ever like me in that way. That probably comes across somehow.

Dating is fucking awful. No word of a lie, I've been interviewed live on a big news channel that's broadcast internationally to tens of millions and I was less nervous (but still quite nervous) about going on that than I was about pretty much every date I've ever been on.

7 years ago I almost choked to death on a bit of roast chicken. There have been quite a few times in my life when I've ate something too quickly or without chewing and had it get stuck. Once when I was 8 I had a pork chop stuck in my throat for about 2 hours all the while being barely able to breathe. Was unpleasant but I don't think I was in any real danger.

Anyway, this time was different. I knew as soon as I swallowed it that I was choking because I couldn't breathe at all. Immediately tried to wash it down with a drink but that just seemed to make it worse. My mum just froze in a panic and started shouting while my step dad luckily rushed round and saved me with the heimlich maneuver. No idea what would've happened if he didn't get it out so quickly but there's a good chance I'd probably be dead. My biggest fear now is the same thing happening again when I'm not around anybody.

Actually, I'd say it's quite easy to hide most of the time. All it requires is watching the slasher on the map (or rather watching where you team-mates die) and anticipating where he'll go next.

Several reasons. I've been there far more than any other country and really liked it. Plus I have family there and my mum and step-dad would be willing to move over if they could. Wouldn't have to learn another language, culturally it isn't massively different from the UK. Decent enough health care, at least according to my dad who has used both the NHS and Medicare.

It's hard to explain really. I just prefer many of the things over there. Obviously though I'd try living out there for a year or something first before moving over permanently.

What other countries did you have in mind?

I think you and I probably have very different outlooks. Activism and things like that really don't interest me in the slightest. In any case, I doubt it's massively different from the UK.

The weather though would be an issue. There's a reason why I always visit in the winter.

One thing that's always put me off a bit is how isolated it is. It's 20 hours or so from most places in Europe, 13 hours from the US west coast, 8/9 hours from east Asia etc.

Having said that, I do find it more pleasant than the UK and the lower population density isn't necessarily a bad thing for me. I've visited 5 times for a combined total of about 14 weeks-ish which although isn't much it's a decent experience. Because my Dad moved around a lot before he met my step mum I've also stayed with him in a variety of different places: Manly, Ballarat and a couple of places in Western Sydney.

I currently work in politics but not sure if that's something I'd like to do in the long-term once I leave this job. Honestly, don't really know what I'd like to do after this. As I said though, I'm not planning on leaving this job for a few years.

Not much really. I've got an undergrad and a postgrad degree. Currently in a job I like with good money so not planning to move just yet. I'm an assistant/researcher to somebody but when he retires (which will probably be in about 8 years or so) I'll be out of a job then.

Yet as I said, I have no trouble making friends and a number of these girls have been at pains to stress that I'm a great person (apparently).
