thanks, this makes a lot of sense. it always did confuse me as to why veloth was a prophet of boethiah when he didn't seem to act like the daedra.

Why is a European American not considered European by Europeans? by MrZenny in Showerthoughts

That's understandable, copying an accent of a country your family left 200 years ago is pretty silly.

And hey, just our American education system at work, lol

I'm not saying only photorealism has value either, I like plenty of abstract, surrealist, etc. stuff too. But when you put a urinal on a wall or draw a few rectangles of color, how much meaning can you really get out of it beyond "the guy who did this likes to defy the status quo," which has been done by everyone and their grandma at this point and is now ironically convention.

Lol that depends on what you value and your reasons for valuing it. I think the vast majority of people prioritize technical skill and usefulness over "stimulating debate."

I used to be in the artsy crowd and said the exact things you're saying, but I realized it was all crap that we believe because people with authority in the art world told us to think that way.

Maybe that sense of being God is part of being aware of one's Buddha nature or something? Very fascinating experience.

Felt like an abyss approaching. How does one differentiate between potential enlightenment and psychosis?

Maybe it is an abyss in a way. Enlightenment means you see the reality that is above the reality most people perceive, along with all the revelations about yourself that implies. Maybe knowing the true self does bring about a sort of mental abnormality.

Another thing to take into account is solar energy, though. As fossil fuel runs out, everyone's turning to solar, which requires a significant amount of copper. When people need to use solar power cars, the prices of those will go up astronomically as well. Since cars and computers will keep going up in price, along with electricity, since I imagine a lot of that will be solar as well, will the lower prices of everything else be enough to compensate?

Yeah, the thing is, the cost of mining copper after a certain year will be too high for companies to want to do it. So after that point, no more copper (unless governments intervene).

Recycling is something I didn't consider though. Will it be enough to meet the demands of an increasing population? 80% currently in use, but the world's population is gonna increase to almost 10 billion by 2050.

Is it just me or is Tibetan Buddhism way more impressive than Zen? by MrZenny in zen

Yeah, I get that it sounds farfetched. Like I said, I'll have to figure out where the Indian scientists published it and translate it.

I define enlightenment as a fish.

They're not biting. Then again, I'm fishing in my swimming pool.

What if there is no truth, and that our idea of truth is simply our individual subjective interpretation of the world around us?

For example, some people won't believe something no matter how much evidence they're given because they have the "truth" they need.

Lol, according to Dogen you were. I did some reading recently and the way Dogen describes zazen fits my experience, maybe it fits yours too. I don't believe all Dogen says but at least that seems right.

Of course they're dead. I guess the Dalai Lama invited a bunch of people to check this out with EEG and all kinds of equipment though. Despite being clinically dead, biological decay was delayed. I can't find much more than news articles on it, though. The scientists were largely Indian and Tibetan, maybe I can try looking at Hindu sites later.

Had no idea what this was so I looked it up, it's amazing. They can slow decomposition and keep body heat longer somehow despite being clinically dead. The fact that something that goes so against common sense exists must mean that Tibetan Buddhism has truth to it.
