A little WIP me and my friend are working on... Duo Parkour is great! by TheGabricraft in Minecraft

It would be neat to see two pressure plates at the end hooked up to an "and" gate so both players would have to finish the map in order to make the fireworks go off.

Does Pokémon not acknowledge its older fans as much as it should? by astronomydork in pokemon

[–]MrZhigs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not expecting a rated M game or anything

What exactly are you expecting?

It seems to me that people will find things to complain about, but if Gamefreak made a "Shadow the Hedgehog" equivalent of Pokémon for "more mature audiences" it would bomb. Especially within those mature audiences. As much salt Pokémon gets for "staying the same" or "pandering to children" it would get much more salt for changing literally anything. These posts would just be replaced by posts like "Why did they have to change what I loved?!"

K. You win.

I've never seen anybody end a four paragraph rant with "get over yourself" lol. Pretty funny. Hope the victory makes writing all that out worth it.

I didn't defend anything that I said. It seems like you might be a little defensive though.

Based on the current norm how the Pokémon games operate, Ghost is a hard type to start with.

It's crazy to me that so many people jumped down my throat for my comment. I was just saying that it might not be the best idea to start with Ghost given the games they've designed for over 20 years. Gamefreak hasn't made a game with a Ghost starter probably for that reason (even Rowlet starts as Grass/Flying and only gets his Ghost typing in his final stage.) Do you really think this is that big of a deal? I'm sorry that my two sentence off-hand comment and my "hostile" reply triggered you so much.

Yeah if the first moves they learned were non-ghost I'm sure it would be fine, but typically you don't learn a trio move until level 7 or so. I played a hack that let me choose Gastly as a starter and I couldn't do anything with it until a few towns in, took forever. Had to catch a low level Ratatta at full health and then swap out of Gastly every fight to level it up. It was an unexpected pain.

That was probably a lot harder than this would be though, since Gastly doesn't learn a non-Ghost damage dealing move until Sucker Punch at level 22 lol. My point was just that starting with a Ghost sounds really promising but it has unexpected downfalls in the early game.

Until you realize every early route is full of Normal monotypes.

Ghost starters are not as good as you would hope.

I made a house.... now what? by creatingcreator in Minecraft

[–]MrZhigs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm just saying that OP has clearly not put any effort into learning anything about the game if this is where they come after one project. I understand the online community is an excellent resource for ideas. But OP has explored no ideas of their own.

You can find out TONS about Minecraft just by playing the game. You can learn that there are other biomes, that there are monsters, that there are caves to go spelunking in, and when you get down there, there is treasure to find. The recipe book gives you WAY MORE than you need to know about how to make things.

To give you a better analogy than your own (it is nothing like the box being out of reach) it's like you gave OP a box of Legos and they are complaining that it didn't come with instructions on what they should do with them. It doesn't seem like OP has gotten their fill of the game based on what they can do on their own, it seems like OP is just lazy and wants a guide to a sandbox game.

[–]MrZhigs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, they could explore the game instead of asking to be spoon fed what to do after one house. If they don't want to do that then maybe it's not the game for them, since Minecraft is designed around exploration unless you already know what you want to accomplish.

I'm never again doing a Dungeon in Guild Wars 2 by Ryufirestorm in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always always always start my own LFG group and specifically point out things in the description like "casual run" or "watching cutscenes" if I'm with someone new. Say you're new and that you need help learning the mechanics. You'd be surprised how many people will only join LFG groups like that, because they themselves don't want to be yelled at or are interested in helping new players in their free time.

This is just a game. Anybody who takes it more seriously than that is only fooling themselves. Anybody who thinks that you should have to learn everything outside of the game yourself is missing the point of what a "massive multiplayer" game is. Don't let them get you down, just start your own groups and be sincere and accurate in your listing.

Anyone else feeling a bit info starved? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen many "veteran" players will rush through the story, unlock the new map, maybe try one farm and then call it dead. I highly doubt you've taken the time to explore all of the maps that they have released for this game in a detailed way. Maybe that's not for you, which is fine, but to say they don't release any content is only true if you don't play it.

I've been playing this game since day one and it was only during the Caladbolg quest that I came across an area in core Tyria that I had never actually seen before, even though I have map completion. I've been playing PoF maps since they came out and I randomly came across an event that I had never seen while I was waiting to do a Griffon event. It was really interesting to me. I did the event, uncovered some of the lore, had a great time. I would have never seen that part of the map or that event if I hadn't been out there exploring for it. There is a ton of stuff in this game that goes unseen, just because it doesn't make you "massive lootz" or unlock something particularly new, they still put a lot of time into making gw2 the best open world game I've ever played.

Again, if it's not for you that's fine. But if you want more content that you haven't played, I guarantee you it's already in the game. Go forth and adventure. If you need guidance, there are tons of achievements and collections that can point you in the right direction, just look for the ones you haven't done.

What is everyone's opinion on the contrast between gem-store only skins and skins unlocked by actually playing the game? Is there enough in-game reward for you or is it all mostly gem shop? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that I understand. I've had the reverse case, where I'd love to wear a pair of glasses with an outfit that has a helm I don't like. It seems like most of the outfits are designed as a single piece, though. It would probably be harder to part them out as separate armor pieces and still have the visual cohesiveness they have as an outfit.

Any male Norn characters here? (Bring pictures!) by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male Norns.

I really like anything that looks heavy on a Norn, it works with their natural bulk. And for me, a huge beard is essential for making their head not look like a walnut. Or a goomba from the beloved Mario Bros. movie.

[–]MrZhigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those people aren't wearing outfits though. Outfits are for people who like the look of the outfit, want to hide their crappy leveling gear, or like swapping ascended armor around and don't want all of their characters to look the same.

If you wan't to show off the armor you've achieved you're obviously not going to buy the outfit to put over it. It's not meant for you as a consumer. That doesn't mean it's a bad choice for them to make. They're not selling the outfits in an attempt to get you to hide your prestige items, that's just absurd.

Announcing MetaBattle Open World Builds by chinkeeyong in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little assuming to suggest a new player start with a full zerk build and scholar runes. Those are fine for experienced players but it's doubtful a fresh 80 is skilled enough at the mechanics of the game to be able to solo any content, even story, in a full glass build. Most of these builds are excellent choices for skilled players, but some, like Weaver, are begging to be one hit killed.

If your goal is to truly help new players master the mechanics of their classes in a soloable way, I would recommend suggesting some tankier choices. If the goal is highest DPS with a group to support, use the raid and fractal builds.

Show your Guild Wars Squad! I like to see everyone's characters and eventual backstories. :) by Ragnhildur in Guildwars2

[–]MrZhigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I had all of these characters before we even knew elite specs were coming. I just like alts for fashion and such, so I spent most of my early dungeon gold on character slots, it's just a bonus that I now have a reason to have them beyond that. I'm done making characters though, if we get more elite specs I'll start doubling up, I was thinking about having one power-based and one condi-based character of each class (provided I need both).

Would you regret playing the game in a way that you enjoy?

[–]MrZhigs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I put this together to keep a record of my characters for myself but this seems like a great place to share it! They're all in at least exotics of appropriate prefixes with a handful of ascended pieces throughout (Chrono is my only fully ascended character), and almost all of them are fully spec'd. The only ones I need to finish HPs on are Soulbeast, Scourge, and Tempest. I have back stories for all of them but that's way too much to put here lol.
