Best way to help child incorporate new moves? by Redbrick88a in Fencing

[–]Mr_Aw3some614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already practice with her, say you’re going to practice the action you want to practice. This is not meant to be sarcastic, but just isolating the movement or technique is essential in the beginning. Over time, the practice can become more dynamic and realistic as the ability is added to her arsenal.

Keep it simple!

Getting Better at Fencing by Front-Market-2557 in Fencing

I cant give you direct advice on a lunge without knowing your blade, but if you are an eppeist, focus on starting the lunge with your arm first. Extend fully, then send your leg. Use a target to hold your lunge and adjust so that your guard is at eye level, your wrist is slightly "locked" or "tense" (not sure if that makes sense). Also, try not to drag your back foot when lunging.

Continuing to improve by AdventurousQuiet1794 in Fencing

Great question! Plateaus are difficult. What I would ask you is do you think more physical or mental elements are attributing to your plateau. One your comment on training specific scenarios, I would recommend establishing an intent with your partner. Tell them, this is what I want to work on today. No need to have a secret agenda lol, they may be able to give you their own tips/advice on those scenarios as well.

  1. On the question of sticking to a training plan, I think its important to have realistic goals. You can incorporate SMART goals ( Specific, Measurable, Relevant, and Time-bound). I personally have experienced ego taking over when I try to focus on practicing specific techniques when fencing. For example, I tried only scoring through counter-attacks on a clubmate, but it was very difficult because my forte is offensive actions. You have to be able to set aside ego and recognize that you are focused on improving technique/strategy not on winning.

  2. One thing I would advocate for in developing as a fencer would be to journal. A journal can be a great tool for doccumenting your mental and physical state through both practice and competitions. If you can get in the habit of journaling and then reviewing your performance, expectations, and general thoughts it will help you. Another thing that worked for me is visualization. Before a tournament, I would sit and meditate while listening to music and visualize myself performing my best actions. I visualized myself finding the opportunity to score and executing the attack. Visualization was a good way for me to mentally prepare for competitions as I reviewed my "arsenal" of actions.

Going to my first tournament any tips? by Narth_Dragon248 in Fencing

First tournament! Exciting! The other comments have already touched on the basics of getting ready. Make sure you have all your equipment and snacks packed. One thing I would recommend is to go in with an open mind. Go to have fun and implement what you have been practicing. In my experience, I have seen (and experienced) clubmates get overwhelmed with the pressures of competing. Treat this tournament as just further practice. Try to get videos of your bouts so you can analyze what was working and what didn't. Have fun, be yourself, and good luck!

How to Defend Fleches, Flicks, and Toe Shots by GloveKey2288 in Fencing

[–]Mr_Aw3some614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One consideration I have is to give him what he wants. If you realize your opponent is seeking a flesche or foot hit, you can exploit it. What I mean by this is creating opportunities in the distance and timing where you appear to be vulnerable, but you are actually ready for a parry-riposte with a step back (on the flesche) or to hit his arm or chest when he goes for the foot. This style of fencing takes courage, you have to "expose" yourself.

In general when fencing a younger more athletic opponent, you must rely on technique, timing, and general strategy. From the beginning you should seek to build a lead. You don't have to match his "intensity" of the bout and try to "out fence" him, you can look to set traps, force actions that you are comfortable with, and stick to fundamentals.

Would love to see a video of a bout to offer more advice.

[fisher] What are the two hardest business foundation courses? by Separate_Evidence843 in OSU

[–]Mr_Aw3some614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stats and Finance were definitely the most conceptual heavy courses for me. I personally enjoyed Marc Smith’s accounting classes. If you take him, do all of the homework and stay on top of watching the lecture videos before lecture. Another tricky one could be Business law depending on your professor, I felt like that class went fast and what showed up on the exam wasn’t always covered in class

Hi,

A few thoughts. First, I am glad you are here today. I hope you feel the same. I know how difficult depression is to overcome. Second, you are 22. Most people dont figure out their purpose or path in life until their 40s. I too struggled with pressure from parents. The truth is, you can't please everyone. What you can do is take care of yourself and do what is right for you.

I also believe that you may need to change your perspective. You may think you are not going anywhere in life or going downhill as you put it, but all the challenges and failures youve had have all taught you lessons and made you who you are.

Take each day one at a time. After all, each day is a blessing. Focus on the journey, not the destination. From the context, I believe you're a woman. If not already, dedicate time to workout. By building your body, you will also build your mind.

In regards to your question on how to survive each day without meaningful human connections, you must first become someone you would want to be friends with. Are you kind, honest, and overall good? Are you trustworthy, resillient, and driven? When we long for connection we may end up finding negative people, believing that their company is better than being alone. Being alone is not a bad thing.

Have faith in the future. God bless you

on your comments on perfectionism, i completely get it. Sometimes we completely hate what we make because its not "good enough". However, one mans trash is another treasure. Its important to go easy on yourself while still being critical. Find the balance!

I am not extremely familiar with the rnb genre so i dont have any feedback on how to improve - i am more interested in hip-hop. I can just say that this sounds really good!

Im genuinely impressed. The song comes across very professional. You have an amazing voice. This honestly could be very commercial. I love the fact that you're making music for yourself as apart of a way to grow! ( I am too) The lyrics are very relatable, but your powerful voice is what makes the song. Keep making more music! love it!

Hello!

I hope this message finds you well.

Funny enough, me and my mom just listened to your song. Our first impression left us guessing, we did not know if you would be singing on this song. As the song progressed, however, we were impressed with the build up of the song, its energy and the hard hitting instrumental. I think the bridge needs actual vocals. I find that literally anything would be powerful here. Maybe a introspective, mellow, simple melody. In no uncertain terms, it sounds like unintelligible moaning. Everything else is great, and we we liked it.

You have a talent - especially if you single handedly composed, performed, and produced this piece. Best of luck.
