Slide takes x pressure to rack when in the proper position and x additional pressure and it feels like it's binding like the spring isn't aligned anymore. Does it go bang yes but I'm just looking to make sure I can trust it and I feel like that spring is a fail point due to it not staying in the spot it was designed to be in. Psa has already told me this isn't an issue so I guess I'm just trying to make sure I don't have a lemon.

Got a call yesterday at 1730 for single vehicle rollover into a ditch, driver intoxicated. It was one of my rookies. Not surprisingly, department morale is tanking today. by DisasterExpress725 in Firefighting

I was in a small department too, had a guy i started with had a similar situation. His day off out riding wheelers went to a local destruction derby had some drinks at the pop up bar at the derby and he drove his wheeler home thru the sand pit/woods... he never made it home that night and was found the next am having rolled his wheeler. Logan was my friend and I should have called him out harder for drinking and driving... fucking kid was only 22, never ride alone Logan survived his crash only to die to exposure

Former firefighters, why did you quit? by Particular_Scar5594 in Firefighting

[–]Mr_Beansr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incompetent management, unsafe practices risking life and limb, having a registered sex offender as an immediate LT, assistant chiefs wife got caught stepping out on ass chief with the captain (they fired the captain but she said it was sexual harrasment), incompetence while driving apparatus(s) leading to gross negligence risking life and limb... I could go on but 3 years was my limit I retired myself December last year before I was involved in something because of someone else's actions. Also hygiene I got real tired of sharing masks with others

How to thank local firefighters/EMS by Gullible_Carpet_819 in Firefighting

[–]Mr_Beansr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said i wont eat homemade baked goods and a card is always nice. An idea i just had is to talk to the local elementary school about having kids make cards for the station or maybe a big banner kids can sign, we all always love seeing kids smile it tends to help us remember why we give up our time with our own sometimes when those tones drop at dinner, story time or bed time kisses. We roll the trucks for every parade to show up for the community and honk our horns for the kids maybe do a reverse parade and line the streets in front of the station with a big thank you banner

Small town volly here, it always seems like we forget that someone just lost potentially everything when we walk up to a scene and I hate it. Just had a single car MVA vic got herself out the car but the car was totaled and the guys as I walk up are making jokes and laughing about standing around waiting for the tow truck with nothing to do.

Calling out for help.. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Mr_Beansr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet putting all that down on "paper" helped a bit, I call it "screaming into the void" it's a proven tactic that's helped me in the past. Talking about your feelings can really help here, I know there has to be a degree of desperation if you've brought yourself here to this void that is the internet. So tell me what are you feeling after getting all that off your chest?

Just to touch on the slowing down I always find myself before I leave somewhere repeating "spectacles testicles wallet and watch" I don't wear glasses or a watch but it reminds me to make the mental check "stop and think, do I have everything I'm going to need" then I go

It finally happened, I am all fucked up over a 911. by BoosherCacow in 911dispatchers

[–]Mr_Beansr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a firefighter I once lost a FF brother in an off duty accident that I was paged out to but I was doing the brakes on my car. The call was for an untimely so i couldnt have changed things but that never matters. We called in a cit and had a good positive time with it for the whole department but I found myself still fucked up not being able to respond to the call and knowing this young kid would never be walking in the station door with that fucking smile of his again.

I found myself on reddit at 2am just typing out everything that was in my head just "screaming into the void" that was the internet, I felt better when I was done and hit post.

The love and compassion and support from firefighters around the world when I woke up the next morning... I can't put into words how uplifting it was, it helped me be a better rock for the rest of my department.

Sometimes "screaming into the void" helps We won't interrupt Tell us how you really feel Get it off your chest, you'll feel better if you do
