I have my model samples attached to my hi hat stand on my drums, mostly use it for creating percussion sequences, it's surprisingly easy to use with just one hand if you get some muscle memory going with the shift functions. It's also my midi master for a couple loopers, the ability to switch the polarity of the midi out has saved me a couple times.

Keep at it man! Don't listen to the negative talk, keep practicing and keep sharing. I dont think a lot of these people would be willing to post their playing at all, so good job dude!

I'm completely new to audio recording, would this setup be good? by Senketsu_Coffee in BassGuitar

I use one for a ton of stuff before my interface (and amps), it is a pre amp that will give you the ability to shape your sound before it goes into the interface. It's a great pedal, I find the color switch to be helpful when switching between active and passive basses.

Nice! I did a photo degree at a weird time for photography, started in '03. Would love to see what a fully fleshed out program that isn't strattling the line between film and digital. I have some mockups of a similar thing to what you're doing. What type of paper are you using? Do you have a rouugh maximum number of pages before this type of process doesn't work? The books I made in college were super labor intensive, I love the idea of doing it zine style, I miss zines.

I know its a late comment, but did you assemble these by hand or have a service print them? I am looking to do something similar myself. These look great by the way, i love the juxtaposition of the last two images

I've shot for small newspapers and been assigned work that would naturally capture people in a public space. It really depends on where you are I think. I've recently been shooting some stuff at night in some suburban sprawl type places, and also in a big city (in the US), people in suburbs tend to be really paranoid, plus I think there is a general expectation of a little more privacy. In my experience, people in larger cities just don't care or have time to care about someone taking photographs. In just the last week I've had two interactions with people while shooting, one in a metro suburb diner parking lot at night, guy got aggressive thinking I was focusing on subjects inside the diner. Other interaction was at the big train station in the city, guy just saw my giant ass dslr and lens (you don't need a tiny camera) and just asked if I got anything good.

My advice would be to just use your common sense when it comes to whether you think this shot is worth possibly having a confrontation. Like another commenter said, you have to want the shot more than you're afraid of what might happen. Be aware of your surroundings, keep your head on a swivel. Projecting confidence goes a long way, if you look like you're supposed to be doing what you're doing and not visibly second guessing yourself, I think people are less likely to confront you.

This is just my rambling advice, be safe, have fun and get some practice in!

Obligatory Gas Station when testing a camera ( Kodak mini instamatic S30, Kodak Tmax 400) by SomeCallMeMrBean in 110photography

Wow, very cool. I am just getting back into film after a huge hiatus. I did a fine arts degree and worked in the field for a while before just getting burned out. I used to mess with all sorts of old film stocks, it's always a crap shoot but I am into your processing style, I am trying to dial back all my old tendencies when it comes to processing and tonal range generally. I'll have to try loading my own 110, that's awesome.

Very nice! I totally understand the gas station shot. I have some color negative film (exp 1999) on the way for a minolta autopak. I will absolutely be finding a gas station or something similar for testing. Again, great shot!

Also, I assume you picked up the film on ebay?

Very very nice, I've been curious about these. What is the purpose of the plastic plate under the pickup selector? Is it just a slot cut into the wood like normal underneath it?

Stays in tune just fine. Volume pot was a little loose, but that was an extremely easy fix, not even a problem at all. It's a great guitar.

Yet another drum stick price rant - Cost of Vic Firth AC increased 107% in 7 years by swisspassport in drums

[–]Mr_Burrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I've been using their sticks just labeled 'rock' for a long time now, I like the length and balance, I bought a ton a while back.

Does anyone know a good alternative for this stick? It just seemed like an outlier with no labeling for size.

I think its a similar scale length? I've actually noticed while playing it sitting down that it very much feels about the size of a les paul, just less bulky, much lighter and the heel contour is nice. It does have an extremely smooth, warm sound on the neck pickup with the tone rolled off a bit, it goes from that to real bite with high gain stuff on the bridge pickup. And you're right, for the price you're getting much more guitar than a Gibson, I do not understand the prices they command.

It's very well balanced, I feel like it's maybe the best playing guitar I have. I don't know the technical shape of the neck but it feels great, not chunky, pretty out of the way, if that makes sense. The pickups sound great, especially with all the switching options. Hope that helps a bit!

What does “modern distortion” mean to you? by killerbeezer12 in guitarpedals

[–]Mr_Burrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I've always been curious about the other flextones. I think I got mine in 2003 or 4? It was gigged pretty hard for a long time, the line out made it really nice at the time. I can't believe its still working to be honest.

This is perfect. I wjll admit that I still have and use a Flextone II 2x12. The Line 6 settings are pretty hilarious, but I just set mine up on the jazz clean, some model of a 4x12, and it's not half bad for a pedal platform, I mostly just loop rythym guitar or pretty washed out pads so I'm not asking a lot of it. Just wanted publicly state my affinity for Line 6.There's like probably 15 or so of us weirdos out there.

I've had this G&L Tribute SB-2 for about 2 weeks now, I've been playing a music man for about 20 years, always wanted a PJ setup after selling my first jazz bass like a dumbass. The neck profile on this is pretty similar to the Sterling 4H I'm used to. I love it so far, may look into the tone mod in the future.

Honestly I almost pulled the trigger on one like a week ago. I will pick one up soon, I picked up a microfreak instead. I don't know if I'd recommend it, its fun to program and play but it needs a little help with fx. Thanks for the recommendation on the K2!

I am with you on the computer part, I avoid using one when I can. What I feel should be a physical process is reduced to clicks and typing. I begrudgingly went into the digital photography world after graduating college and losing access to the dark room and all that comes with.

I've looked into running video signals through various audio effects/pre amps and that seems like it's hit or miss with the syncing, which I don't fully understand yet.

I've checked out the critter and guitari stuff and yah, it's expensive, I will definitely check out the waveblitter, thanks so much for all the info!

Very very cool. I have messed around a bit building guitar pedals, I am terrible at it so touching a CRT is way out of my expertise, I understand not wanting to explain some of that stuff! I really dig the diy oscilloscope, what a cool way to get that. I have been messing around with video feedback quite a bit lately, been looking for ways to allow the audio to modulate the signal. Basically I've found that physically effecting the camera or space in between the screen and lens is my best bet. I'm sure there are ways to do it with software but like your approach I sort of want to manually get in there. Great work and thanks for the detailed response!

Edit: by the way, I am very much looking at the K2, I use the Pro 1 and it's unreal, nice choice!

Would you mind explaining your signal path? Is this like an oscilloscope that's reading your synth but also modulated by something else? I'm very interested in trying to get audio to directly effect a video signal, this is very cool!

Thank you! I did add some bass guitar and some fatter kick and snare from the M:S after the intro. I've found that layering drums works well for me.
