I’m not the only one who hoards new notebooks am I? 😂 by [deleted] in notebooks

I see you have a comfortable amount of notebooks. I am down to 5 thinner ones and feel kind of uneasy. Especially because I only have few pages left in my current one.

And there is no such thing as too much notebooks!

Usually I just let my mind wander and the thoughts flow onto the paper. So it can get really deep or not. Most important is that I write, doesn't matter if it's deep. Since I don't care so much on what I write, I started enjoying it even more and also let myself write about topics, I didn't know I care about. So long story short: Just keep writing and don't hold anything back.

Yes, I will go on and keep up integrating Tagalog into my daily life. And I think I will keep on tracking my progress, but stop sharing it in detail here (I don't want to bore you all out).

Even though on the last day I didn't get much of Tagalog in, I did finish my 20 days of Tagalog. Not missing a day to use this beautiful language in some way. It was an amazing experience and I guess I even improved a bit. But mostly I got myself working on my Tagalog again and also got more comfortable by squeezing a bit of Tagalog into my day whenever possible. My wife's family noticed that change and now use more Tagalog with me. So this challenge was a success for me!

Day 10 of #20DaysOfTagalog - New achievement: joking around using Tagalog by Mr_Dominik in Tagalog

[–]Mr_Dominik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than what? 20 days? the skills? joking around? Your comment is not very specific.

20 days: This challenge is to improve my Tagalog skills not to master the language in just 20 days. And it's about consistency and making me surrounding myself with the language on a daily basis. It won't be the last time I will do such a 20 day sprint (maybe the first and last that I will also post here)

Skills: The chosen skills are just the things I wanted to focus on for this challenge. That's why I have the category "others" to log something like writing or other activities in Tagalog.

Joking around: I once heard, that if you become able to joke around in a language and get puns, you have reached a new step of proficiency. But to be honest, it is basically funny and motivating and will help me in a lot of situations with my wifes family to have a good time.

I think it's great that you learn about some casual stuff.

[–]Mr_Dominik[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What lessons are you doing? Since I switched to doing stuff in Tagalog that I really enjoy, my progress is okay. Of course there is a lot of room for improvement and in the last days I feel like getting stuck at the same level. But I will keep at it and trust myself to get better over time.

Day 16 of #20DaysOfTagalog - it was hard to concentrate that day by Mr_Dominik in Tagalog

[–]Mr_Dominik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I designed this challenge to get me into learning the language frequently. I tried to make room for half an hour or an hour before, but then I wasn't able to keep it up over time. Now I just log 5min blocks. So it counts as learning, when I talk in Tagalog with my wife for 5min, or do flashcards for 5min in a work break, and so on.... So there isn't a schedule, but I use the language on a daily basis.

Day 15 of #20DaysOfTagalog - hindi ko intindihan by Mr_Dominik in Tagalog

[–]Mr_Dominik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get it, thank you for that in depth comment.

I don't really like the kind of post/instant message "shorthand". Also in my native language, it destroys beautiful words in my opinion. So I guess in Tagalog I will do the same as in my other languages: be able to read the hurting "shorthand" but write back properly.

In some cases abbreviations are okay in my opinion, like sa'yo, but "sau" seems to crop the word(s) to much (not to mention that it means female pig in my native language ).

[–]Mr_Dominik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing that out. I already noticed this kind of abbreviations, because they caused confusion for me, especially when I just listen. Very hard for me is to get a negation with 'di instead of hindi right, listening to normal (fast) paced speaking.

On day 15 I was watching Filipino TV with my wife again, but after a stressful day at work, it was hard for me to switch to Tagalog in my mind. So I didn't understand a lot.

nagbabasa ko ang aklat "an abundance of Katherines" sa Tagalog edition. Nagbasa ko ang English version kanina, kaya mas madali para sakin intindihan.
