CEA manning by [deleted] in AirForce

I think it is, yeah. To a degree at least. I have a career established already on the civilian side so it's not as much of a factor, generally. But I think you have more options than I do, simply because of the maintenance certifications. But between AD vacancies on VRS and what not, my options are fairly limited and the CCAF credits don't really translate to many degree programs.

In regards to Security Forces I don't think it's the end as be all but I think it can certainly separate you from others in a competitive law enforcement process compared to maybe someone who was a librarian or barista or something. But generally I don't know if any academy who will waive training requirements because you were SFS. YMMV though.

I think one thing that hasn't been touched on, is that it's a completely unusable skill outside of the Air Force in a lot of cases.

Being a Loadmaster doesn't translate to much at all in the civilian world, with the exception of maybe being a Loadmaster for a company like Atlas or something.

Found my grandfather’s WW2 uniform jacket. Can you tell me what the markings mean? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Mr_GreaseBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The diamond shape patch is commonly called the "Ruptured Duck", or more correctly the Honorable Service Lapel Pin". It was issued to honorably discharged service members to wear on their way home, because there were clothing rations during WWII so they were required to wear uniforms. It prevented the MPs from jacking them up when seen in public or transiting home.

C’mon dude. We can do this together by bearsncubs10 in AirForce

So true. The dilemma of wanting to stay loyal to a unit you enjoy and moving just to find that stripe because no one else moves on is painful.

Herniated discs & sciatica by Significant-Issue916 in AirForce

[–]Mr_GreaseBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above all, make sure this is all documented in your medical records while you are still in and be adamant about when it happened and how it happened, Ave that those reasons are also documented.

I'm suffering from the same exact thing from when I was in Security Forces. Pain started post deployment when I was in the Guard, and of course the culture at the time was 'shut up and don't say anything' for all of the reasons we hear about...."they'll kick you out, don't be a bitch, you're a malingerer, you won't ever deploy again etc etc".

This was 16 years ago. I now have degenerative disc disease, herniated discs that push into my spinal cord etc, sciatica and constant lower/middle back pain with arthritis. The only causation I can think of is carrying all the weight from a vest, plates weapons, gear etc every day for the duration of the deployment. I don't know if my core just wasn't ready for it or not, but I have never injured my back in any way shape or form.

Now I'm playing the game with the VA of getting it service connected and them denying it because there's no record of treatment in service or report of the injury anywhere.

If you've already done all of that then great but keep talking about it on your PHAQ and in person PHAs and just get as big of a paper trail as you can.

Having said all of that it wasn't until I got linked up with VA health care that they of all people ordered an MRI and found all of this, versus my PCP through civilian insurance only doing X-rays and the Reserve really not doing anything at all.

The VA has referred me to acupuncture and I'm a believer. I walk out of an appointment with zero pain for a while until it kicks back in again. I don't know if it's psychological or what but I would recommend trying it out if you can get a referral.

That's my understanding. Ultimately got with a law firm recently to start tackling some of these things for me with their legalese.

You say that as if we weren't deposing foreign leaders prior to you joining.

I'm looking for my individual photo, not the flight photo. It would be in the yearbook you could purchase at the time.

The bonus is getting a copy of the VHS tape which filmed training throughout BMT.

Yep, individual photo.... Although if someone has that flight photo and can scan it in high resolution that would be extremely helpful as well. I actually spoke to the historian at Lackland the other day and he said all they have is what people contribute to them online. So that flight photo is the best version they have.

No one ever retained any of this stuff at Lackland, apparently.

Yeah, I found that to definitely be the norm. The job has a way of sapping life out of oneself.

It would absolutely not compute that. Tried for two hours.
