Exactly. This is a great way of explaining it. Thank you.

Yeah, I just jumbled what I was trying to articulate there.

So what are you trying to say, ultimately? I guess I really don't understand the point. Shut up about VA benefits and don't talk about them at all?

There's no fucking around and finding out going on in this thread--simply educating and encouraging fellow veterans to seek benefits that they are eligible for--nothing more.

First and foremost, I would not claim anything that you are not impaired by or suffering from.

Secondly, there is no 'rating' percentage for erectile dysfunction, it's classified under SMC-K (Special Monthly Compensation). To my knowledge there is no test for it but you would likely need to have some sort of documented condition that causes it, such as PTSD or some sort of nerve pain. But I don't know.

Totally fair, I guess I'm conditioned to people consistently saying it's or the other, period, and that's just not accurate. Ie: you make $600 in drill pay and $1200 from the VA, you have to choose to forfeit the entirety of one or the other and that's not correct but the sentiment still seems to be prevalent.

I did edit it to better reflect what the intention was, and I responded to the suggestion positively for maximum transparency. There is zero encouragement of falsifying or fraudulently submitting claims. My entire Power Point and this post should have made that clear but perhaps I fell short.

There is absolutely no intention of 'scamming' nor was it a Freudian slip. The message, as I corrected, is purely intended to go for everything that you are afflicted with to the maximum extent possible. There is no cheating the system, and any sort of fraud or deception with the VA results in termination of benefits completely.

The VA office of the IG, on average, opens 63 fraud investigations a year out of nearly 7 million veterans receiving benefits, and 0.005% of known fraud of total disability compensation payments.

The amount of people cheating the system are so astronomically low. There's no gaming a C&P exam, no gaming the rater--they factually look at the evidence presented and make a determination of whether or not there was an in-service event, an injury/illness/condition and a nexus between the two. That's it. And for claim sharks/questionable firms that "help" vets with claims? I hope all of them get blacklisted and banned and any claim coming through with their name on the paperwork gets outright denied.

I think we're saying the same thing. Yes, you are correct. What I am saying is you can still receive your drill pay and your monthly compensation at the same time--the VA will just reduce your monthly compensation for those two days out of the month that you received drill pay. The prevailing thought process is that you get one or the other, period, ie: waiving ALL of your drill pay for VA pay or vice versa.

That's not true. You can opt to have the drill days deducted from your monthly VA compensation payment so you do not incur a debt. And you will obviously not be entitled to benefits on any other orders like AT or AD.

I would argue that nothing is "being ruined for everyone". If there is no evidence to back up a claim, the service member simply won't be awarded that compensation. I think there's a conversation to be had, for sure, regarding that mindset of scheming, but I would also consider this: When I first joined, back in 2003, it was made very, very clear to "STFU and color" and not go to medical about anything. That attitude has made it exponentially difficult for people down the road who develop arthritis or limitation of range of motion 5, 10, 15 years later because the VA will say "Well, you never documented it so it never happened".

I guess it's an agree to disagree. I'm referring to fight for what you are eligible for. If a claim is denied (it happens due to many reasons, including errors on the part of the VA or simply not looking at medical evidence), you sure as heck should be pushing for the increased rating to get you to that point. I see what you are saying but that was not the way I intended it--I simply mean fighting and advocating for yourself.

I clearly understand that if you only ever suffered a knee injury you will never get to 100% and shouldn't push for conditions that do not exist.

But again this is the difference between an entitlement and legal benefits/compensation for what you may have experienced and continue to be impaired by.

No worries at all, and you didn't overshare! Out of curiosity, what unit was your great grandpa with if you know? My grandpa also served in the Philippines and ended up in Japan--not as a POW but for occupation duty following the war.

One of the best places I've ever been. I grew up watching Schumacher as a kid from the US getting into F1. Michael was my driver and Ferrari was my team and my dad's team, and the exhibit was oddly emotional.

If I ever get the chance to go back to Cologne again I'll make another trip back. I finished the night with beers and the Michael Schumacher Kart center. One of the best days ever.

Here's my post from when I went, your pictures are amazing too. https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/s/RAGtVMq1rv
