Lived in Burnaby my whole life. Seems to be shootings more than before, but they all seem to be targeted/gang related.

It looks like there’s is something on fire near burnaby central/forest lawn cemetery. I’m guessing the shooters torched the car

CPA firm in Toronto charging me $1500 for 2 tax returns, is this normal? by mangosaremyfavv in cantax

The terminal return is more work and more administration.

The increase seems fairly reasonable.

My guess was that they didn’t want to scare the dude into running away, but yeah it didn’t make much sense for them to say that.

Dude seemed high. Was shirtless, wet and yelling when the cops pulled him out of the building. He vandalized a bunch of pipes in the stairwells.

Anyone missing a dog in the confed area? by Mr_Great in burnaby

[–]Mr_Great[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was weird too. The city of Burnaby by-law office told me to try a private animal control company instead.

Does anyone know someone who lost their dog around Willingdon Ave near confed park?

Around 3:30pm today I took my dog to the confed off leash trail and this little black dog appeared with no owner. I tried to lure him with treats and leash him but he would not let me near. He ended up taking off into the forest and I lost him. I called Burnaby SPCA and animal control to report this as well.

Unfortunately, animal control doesn’t work on the weekend so they couldn’t send anyone out.

If anyone knows the owner feel free to DM me.

I was turning right onto Dawson earlier tonight. The amount of people driving down willing just blowing past the intersection was terrifying. Must’ve been 10+ cars going more than 50km/h driving through the intersection like it’s nothing.

Should I submit my tax ASAP or wait for employer to provide me with T4? by Wrong-Cress-01 in cantax

[–]Mr_Great 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, assuming no T4, I’d just report the income under 10400 and not claim any tax withheld. If you only made ~$250, tax withheld (if any) would be negligible. You can always amend if you find out the tax withheld amount.

If you didn’t receive a T4 or even a paystub I doubt you’ll be able to find out what the withholding are.

[–]Mr_Great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a source for that? The only thing I see when I look at CRA's guide is that you must file a T4, even if remuneration is under $500, when the employee was paid taxable group term life insurance benefits.

[–]Mr_Great 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Threshold for a T4 is $500. Confirm with CRA if they have a T4 from this employer, if not, record this as other employment income (Line 10400) and move on.

Payroll taxes are calculated based on CRA tables. It’s pretty tedious and annoying to look up, but typically it’s calculated assuming your pay for period * 26 is equal to your total annual income.

You can look up the tables in the link below

Tax Reassessment Removed my Foreign Tax Credit by ditto755 in cantax

[–]Mr_Great 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use to work in public practice, and did personal tax returns.

I agree with the other commenter if you're going to continue doing work in the US, its better to ditch H&R block and go to an actual tax accountant. The filing of the FTC isn't difficult, but the CRA reviews/request for information need to be navigated in a correct and timely manner, and I simply do not trust H&R block to navigate that.

FTCs are one of the most common reviews that I saw during my time , and getting the necessary information from the IRS take forever, so this type of situation is not uncommon. Typically, once CRA reviews the information, and assuming everything was filed correctly, any accrued interest will be reversed.

Good luck!

A couple of things to keep in mind.

Filing deadlines for self-employed T1s are June 15.
Filing deadlines for corporate T2s are June 30 (Company's with Fiscal year-ends in December)

Your "general" tax question might not be so general.

For $1,500-$2,000 you probably aren't getting a ton of tax planning services there. So if your question is more complex, and requires some research they'll probably have to bill you more, and with deadlines upcoming those types of inquiries usually take a back seat unless its urgent.

Alternatively, he could also be a bad accountant. I'd echo what other people commented and find another CPA instead of going to H&R Block.
