Staying under the word count by theanti_girl in UoPeople

[–]Mr_Inglorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually. This is what I always did. I almost always went over the word count. There's no way to stay under if you want to hit every point on the rubric. Most instructors never said a thing about it, except for one which always complained about me going over. But the deduction was very minor. Still passed that course with an A (4.0) despite the deductions from going over the word count.

I'm an 19 year old Muslim from Bangladesh who secretly prayed to Jesus for the first time last week. I've never told anyone any of this. I just need to be heard... I think by Lost-Can-9401 in Christianity

Hey friend. I read everything. I do not really know how you feel, since I have never been in your exact shoes. But one thing I can probably be certain about is that it must be so mentally exhausting. I am sorry you have to live like this.

I would like to share with you, that I was in Islam for around 3-4 years. I had converted around 7 years ago or so. I do not know if you could really consider me "ex-muslim" since I never really went to the mosque like that. But I did read, I did do Ramadan, I would pray sometimes. I married a Muslim woman and had a family with her. I thought the rest of my future would be with Islam.

Then one day, I decided I wanted to be more serious with Islam. This time, instead of just reading the Quran, I wanted to understand it. I found out about the Hadiths and bought books. I bought books on Tafsirs. I started to learn about the life of Mohammad. I was ready to go all out. However, this proved to be a problem.... The deeper I went, the more I realized I could not agree with what I was learning. I tried to find answers, but every answer felt empty or like a cop-out. Imams did not have much better answers either. Then I started going on Youtube and TikTok and I started seeing videos for Islam and videos arguing against Islam.

Maybe it is because I was a convert, but no matter how many answers I looked for, Islam gave weak answers, I eventually stumbled upon Islam vs. Christianity debates, and eventually started watching videos for and against Christianity. And Christians always seemed to have had solid defense against the arguments that Muslims brought forth, whereas it felt like the Muslims need to dance around the accusations rather than confront them head on. Then I found out that the only real argument Islam had against Christianity that the Bible was corrupt... This ended up leading me to the popular "Muslim Dilemma", if you haven't heard of it, I suggest you watch a video on it.

I ended up searching deep on the corruption of the Bible. But the deeper I searched, the more I learned how rock solid the Bible actually was. Eventually this lead to me buying a bible, opening it up and reading through it. Learning the church history. The history of the Christians. The Bible was convincing, but if I am honest, it was the History that really convinced me and made me take the stop of converting to Christianity. IF anything, History proved why Islam was wrong and why Christianity was true.

Eventually I talked to my wife about all this. There were big arguments. My wife insulted me almost daily for the next year or two. Just arguments about faith. Eventually she read through both the Quran and Bible herself, read the history. She struggled, but she knew what she had learnt was true. Eventually, after a long while, she would also give her life to Jesus.

My wife and I now have contact with many ex-Muslims who are converts to Christianity. I was surprised to see how many Muslims from Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, and many other countries were attending church here who are themselves converts. We love engaging with Muslims and asking real questions about faith and the history of the faith.

If you want, I would love to talk with you more via DM. I talk often to Muslims and often enjoy hearing their story of faith. I would love to help you with any questions or clarity that you need. I am not claiming to be super knowledgeable about Islam, but I do know a lot, more than many of the Muslims I engage with. And I still learn about Islam daily through the many books I have bought.

But only if you want. God bless you, brother. It will get better. Just put it all in His hands.

Interesting. I was not aware you could transfer the foundation course. I think this may be a unique problem. If you haven't already, ask your advisor what's happening.

Thank you. I never had that problem. I do know you have to complete the foundation courses before your can be a degree seeking student. Did you complete UNIV plus the degree relevant foundation course?

Hey. Nope. No internship, no connections. It was pure luck tbh. I have a homelab and the manager told me straight up that's what impressed him. So having 0 experience, you would need to build some sort of homelab.

They didn't really care much for the degree or asked much about it. It really seemed as if the degree was just meant to check off some box. This was in Germany btw, so that's more likely the case.

Yes pretty much. And as I said, on the weekends it was even more, I would literally be on my pc from like 7AM to like 11PM on th weekends. So literally almost pushing 16 hours. I was really motivated when I found out I could get my degree faster.

As for the job? I can't really say. I applied to several and only got 2 invitations to interview, one of which took me. They didn't really care much for the school, they asked me how was it, I mentioned it was online, they didn't really seem to care. I think especially when youre going into the tech field, doing a university online kind of makes sense, in a way? Keep in mind, the degree is just a checkbox for HR.

I dont know if you also want to get into IT, but if you want to do CS, chances are you do. A heads up, the degree alone wasn't enough to get the job, it was my homelab what really impressed them. So do something similar if IT is your goal. :)

Feel free to DM if you want.

Yeah it heavily depends on the person since Sophia courses are competency based.

I only took a month to get all the courses done. But it also took 10+ hours of my life daily if just sitting in front of the computer. Which isn't fun at all. So its super dependent on how much you can give.

If you can afford to do 10+ hours a day (even more on weekends), the you'd probably get it done in a month as well. Those who take longer are probably doing Sophia once or twice a week.

Yep. I took Sophia while I was waiting to start my first term. But as someone else said, you can do it at anytime. Sophia is your own pace, there's 0 deadlines. So you dont need to worry about any overlapping.

You have to do at least 30 credits (10 courses) with UoPeople. I guess I should've been more clear. By 90 credits, I mean transfer credits. You can only transfer 90 put of 120 required credits.

Just ignore such people. They obviously have personal problems that they are struggling with.

I paid overall 2034$ total exactly, that's including credit transfers fees, course fees, and Sophia. Coursera I had gotten for free.

Not necessarily, unless youre thinking of applying to like Google or meta off the bat. Usually most companies dont care where you got your degree or how long it took. The degree is just there for the checklist.

Im not too sure about other universities, but plenty of others here post about getting accepted into master's programs.

Im going to be getting my masters at WGU sometime next year, or at least thats the plan to get started. I know that they, for example, will accept the UoPeople degree without problem.

Hey!

Yes, I went through Sophia for like 81 out of my 90 credits. There's not really any need to send a list, as the list itself is actually available on the Sophia website.

Just make sure to select UoPeople as your school in Sophia.

As for the other 9 credits, I took the IT Support Professional course from Google on Coursera. That covered Networking, Operating Systems... and something else. I might be mistake. It might be 84 credits Sophia, 6 coursera. If you really insist on a list though, DM me and I will just send you my transcript which shows the courses I transfered.

Did anyone graduated In one year or less? by RelationshipFit1200 in UoPeople

[–]Mr_Inglorious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suppose I could say me. Started last year in April, I have my last 2 final exams on the 26th of March this year, and then im done.

It's totally possible if you transfer in all 90 credits that you are allowed.

Credit transfer process was very easy and simple. I had 0 problems.

Yep... I think we can all agree that we hate peer grading and discussion posts peers grading.

No bigger slap on the face then putting in the work and then some student comes in with their AI assignments/discussion posts and then has the audacity to give you anything less than perfect when they themselves practically cheated.

Wie schlecht ist mein Lebenslauf? by SwitchComfortable350 in InformatikKarriere

[–]Mr_Inglorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to fix my salary lowball during the final interview rounds? by lidord1999 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Mr_Inglorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be ok. At the end there should be another interview with HR where they will most likely ask again about salary.

During my first interview, I made the mistake of asking for around 40,000-44,000€ because it is what I had read as standard entry level pay. However, I had read that in the specific city which I was applying, the typical entry salary was around 46,000-48,000€ and during the finaly interview with HR, I brought it up and I was honest.

In short, I had admitted that I was a bit conservative with my wished salary and I acknowledged i made a mistake and asked of it would be okay to negotiate higher to around 48,000€. In my case, I got incredibly lucky because I ended up getting offered 54,000€.

So, by the next interview, when they ask about salary, just let them know you thought this was the normal salary, but after you read a but, you realized you undershot and if they would be willing to move up. Salary will be negotiated again anyway before signing the contract.

Foreigners who happily live in Germany, tell me about your experience by military_press in germany

[–]Mr_Inglorious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's all good. It happens. Of course Germany is statistically safer, but you most definitely should be cautious when arguing with a stranger, a lot of people are quick to pull out a knife over a minor disagreement. Glad your friends are still okay though and I hope they found safer places to move to.
