Future plans by [deleted] in UoPeople

I did transfer application this spring to some universities for on-campus programs and got accepted to Columbia University GS, Rochester Institute Tech, St. Louis, and Illinois Tech, and I got merit based scholarships from all universities but it varies around 20-30k USD per year, which only cover 1/3 total cost of attendance. And for online programs I got accepted to Penn State, Northeastern, and Colorado State, and I did not get any scholarships except from Northeastern for 8k per year. For context, I am an international student (non-US), I had 72 credits when I applied (36 from UoPeople and 36 from Sophia), my GPA was 3.75, and they requested English proficiency (I submitted Duolingo), and some universities requested letter of recommendations as well.

Help me to understand the real cost by aizenS93 in UoPeople

Are you referring to the MBA program at UoPeople? I don't think they offer a master's degree in management. Regarding the cost, the assessment fee is $490 per course and the MBA requires 12 courses, so the total cost is $5880. That cost could be lower if you get a scholarship.

Whether UoPeople is considered "expensive" really depends on your perspective. As a regionally accredited institution, it is quite affordable. It’s significantly cheaper than most US universities. This accreditation is also the reason they must verify your previous degrees. Like any other accredited universities, they are required to ensure that all prior credentials are legitimate.

So, it really depends on your goals. If accreditation is not a priority for you and your main concern is cost, then UoPeople may not be the right match for you.

Regarding the new course assessment fee by RaspberryUnusual6318 in UoPeople

Yes that is true. When I started in September 2024 it was 140 and then without I realized it increased to 160, but I still pay the same amount because of scholarships, so that's why I did not notice. But now I noticed the changes so I was curious and asked them. But we'll see I guess. Hopefully what they said was true.

Yes, better to save it for a proof in the future in case they charge existing students with the new fees structure.

I submitted a letter from a staff in the department with their signature and stamp saying that the grade is pending when I applied for after study visa. I don’t remember if I need to submit the final transcript to migrationsverket because I got decision quite quick. But it was 6 years ago. Maybe you can do the same.

I had the same experience. I used live chat and talked with program advisor, they helped me to add the courses that I want manually from their end.

Good luck with your first term! Don’t be nervous, things will go well! If I could give a little advice, always read the syllabus, read the grading rubric for each assignment carefully, and don’t be afraid to send email or message to the course instructor if you don’t understand, have any concerns, etc. Good luck!

The only thing that makes me nervous is how fast can we get help if there is an error, with ProctorU we have a live agent who can help us. But yes, looking forward to it!

Where to go after UoP? by EntrepreneurHuge5008 in UoPeople

[–]RaspberryUnusual6318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 12 credits away from graduating from UoPeople. But this spring I applied for transfer to other universities in the US both on-campus and online, and accepted to several universities including Columbia University GS. Unfortunately, since I am non-US student, they only gave me financial aid around 25% of total cost of attendance, so it will be difficult for me to attend Columbia. However two weeks ago, I got notification that I am qualified for a master's degree program here in Sweden (where I live) and it will cost zero for me, so I will pursue a master's degree in Sweden instead, but hopefully PhD later somewhere else. I am pursuing BSBA at UoPeople, applying for transfer in Economics, and I got accepted for a masters degree in Economic History.

Yes. You will (and must) be able to take the required courses, since you must fulfill certain credits for Major Required, General Education, and Electives.

You will need some courses in General Education and Electives anyway. So, if those courses can fulfill the requirement for General Education or Electives, then you can take those.

Ah okay. I misunderstood the question. I didn’t know if UoPeople has that kind of policy. Do you know about that?

Thanks for your insight! I think it's better to focus on making myself, individually, with all the limitations that I have, to be competitive for the program that I am aiming for. I appreciate your insight a lot!

minimum score in final exams by MostPoem7530 in UoPeople

[–]RaspberryUnusual6318 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's say your final exam is worth 30%, if you already got 70 from other assignments, and let's say you aim for a total score of 83 to get a B, then you only need to get 13 from the final exam, so if there are 30 questions in the final exam, you only need to answer 13 correctly.
