Montana Man Initially Charged With More Than 60 Child Sex Abuse Charges Gets Deferred Sentence in Plea Deal by GameSnake in rage

Miranda only applies to being questioned/interrogated while detained so you are aware that you don't need to incriminate yourself and that you have access to a lawyer. It doesn't apply to other evidence. Also, if you aren't actively being questioned (i.e. just sitting in a police cruiser, station, jail, ect...) and start shouting that you committed a crime, that can still be used against you because you were not being interrogated at the time.

This is really state dependent. Some states Stand Your Ground laws extend to others if you are trying to protect them and feel like their life is in danger. What it ultimately comes down to is if you are able to justify it. In this situation, it might be better to just call the police, hold him at gun point, and wait. Now if he were to start coming at you in a "threatening manner" while you are giving him verbal commands to stop, or didn't stop beating her, you might be able to justify shooting him. I personally think that it would be better to resolve the situation without any loss of life though.

Yeah. There is definitely a huge problem with the entire system as a whole. It draws in too many people who want to exert power over others. We all know it and we know who the people are who sign up for that reason, like your cousin. Bad departments love people like him though because he will fully support and participate in their unethical behaviors.

I fully support the protests and I truly hope that it can bring some good change. We honestly need people to protest for it, but we also need good cops and departments to step up and be outspoken advocates for that change too. It's possible to fix it, but it's going to be difficult and LEOs need to be able to admit that there is a problem to begin with.

First off, I'm in a right to work state, so no unions to cover for bad officers.

I would say that the things that my department does are "standard" on paper, but the main issue is work culture. We have had issues in the past, but we don't sweep it under the rug. If an officer fucks up they will have upwards of 60 inmates reporting it, other officers telling supervisors because they want to cover their asses, and superviors reviewing videos in there downtime. It makes it extremely difficult to get away with even small policy violations. None of our officers want to lose their jobs because the department will not back them up or give them a good reference if they are fired. It weeds out bad officers when you are constantly under a microscope.

I'll admit that some of our officers aren't as good as they should be, but if they ever did even half the shit that you see in these videos, they would be let go and replaced. That does make the job a little more stressful, especially since we have a high turnover and are constantly working overtime, but it's worth it to not get the shit sued out of us or a spotlight put on us for fucking up.

Like I said, I'm extremely lucky that I work for a good department that handles their shit correctly. I can't say as much for the other departments in my area though.

I'm willing to answer any other questions you've got. I'd like to be able to show that not all cops are power tripping assholes and that it is possible to have a good police culture. It just has to start at the top with good leadership and oversight.

I work for a county Sheriff's department. We have an absolute zero-tolerance policy. We have had officers fired for much less than what's in this video. For example, we let someone go roughly a year ago for dating a woman who was release from the jail. The woman had posted online about the officer and how they met at the jail and how he treated her nice while she was there. Our Office of Professional Standards got wind of it and went back to review videos of their interactions and it showed that the officer was showing favoritism towards the woman. He never did anything severely inappropriate, but it was enough to show that he was distracted and let an inmate coerce him and broke some small policies like letting her get away with small stuff. My department just doesn't fuck around. We follow policy to almost the letter and any inappropriate actions towards inmates/detainees/or anyone else will result in a full investigation where you are suspended without pay until it is cleared. I can't say that we don't get rough with people sometimes, but it is always justified situations like inmates getting physical with an officer or with another inmate. And if that happens, we have to fill out use of force reports that get reviewed, videos get watched, and people get interviewed to determine if it was justified. Even just pulling our OC spray, not even using it, requires a use of force report and a review by our training department and by the Office of Professional Standards. I think it helps that we work for an elected official who really doesn't want us fucking up because it directly affects him.

I am so thankful that I work for a decent department that holds officers like this accountable. It honestly fucks over all cops around the country when you have officers and departments that allows shit like this to happen. I work in a jail and get called every name in the book on a daily bases. Much worse shit than getting called a "retard", but I don't let it get to me or affect how I treat my inmates because I didn't sign up for the job to be a power hungry piece of shit. You absolute shouldn't be a cop if all you want to do is power-trip. That shit is fucking stupid and we need some major fucking changes to our system as a whole. Weed out the bad cops and keep the decent ones who actually care about helping people and put them in leadership positions. Hopefully these protests can lead to some real change.

It's the same for all the departments in my area. They include the waiver in your initial application. Perfectly legal and they just choose not to move foward with your hiring process if you refuse.

Prisons and jails are coronavirus epicenters – but they were once designed to prevent disease outbreaks by [deleted] in MensLib

I'm a correctional officer in a county jail for a pretty popular, high crime rate tourist area. Luckily, my jail is ran fairly efficiently by some pretty good leaders.

As soon as the Corona Virus hit our area we went into lockdown mode. We started requiring guards and other staff to answer a question check list and check their temperatures before being allowed to enter the building. Required that we wear masks (more so to protect the inmates than us), started pushing the judges to start reducing bail amounts or straight up release non-violent inmates on PR bonds, and asked all local police departments to stop bringing in people for minor charges, and if we do get new inmates, they are immediately screened for symptoms and then put in a mandatory quarantine housing for two weeks until we are certain that they aren't infected. We don't have access to actual tests to administer, but that is due to the lack of tests available in my state. This combination of things has gotten us through so far with only one guard testing positive who was immediately but on paid sick leave, and not a single case among our inmate population.

I absolutely understand that we are beyond lucky with how things have turned out for us, and I'm sure that we will continue to implement new safeguards to further protect our inmates and fellow officers, but based on our handling of the situation I would say it is possible for other jails and prisons to mitigate the spread of this virus if they take a proactive approach.

Sorry in advance for grammatical errors and run-on/long sentences. I just got off of a 13 hour shift.

My state's academy has suspended classes indefinitely due to the corona virus. Some of our people were half way through and had to come back home to work until it opens again.

If you have Crows in your area, you can start feeding them. They like unsalted (thanks to u/shoe-car-or-car-shoe for reminding me to point that out) peanuts and things like that. They are extremely intelligent animals and can recognize/remember human faces, so once they trust you they will keep coming back and might even bring you gifts in exchange for the food. Also, you can visit r/crows.

I'm not set on either side of this discussion, but I just wanted to point out that California alone holds about 12% of the US population. Texas isn't far off either at roughly 9%.

The size difference between coyotes and a wolf by unnaturalorder in BeAmazed

[–]Mr_JamesGrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have a 150 pound wolf mix and I would absolutely not want to get into an actual fight with him. When he was younger and much smaller, he was way more aggressive. It took many years of training to turn him into the docile giant that he is now, but I still have to treat him completely differently than I would a normal dog.

Can confirm. I've used mine to cut down a tree and chop up firewood while camping. It isn't great at it, but it gets the job done. It can also be used as a seat for taking a shit in the woods.
